In this video I show you how to take a basic first and second stage scuba regulator and tank and build your own surface supply air system for metal detecting in creeks, rivers, or lakes; cleaning the bottom of boats; or doing swimming pool repair.

I've looked at several options like this so we can clean our boat hull. NPT is national pipe tapered defined by the American National Standard Pipe Thread. But that's the "authority" . Got no time for that, I will be hookahing. Thanks for your presentation.

So on average let's say around 12 foot deep how long before that tank could last for average experienced diver? An hour or less? Thanks for sharing

I've been wanting to do this for years but i would need to be scuba certified to refill the tanks and im only looking to go beliw the surface 10 to 12 ft in rivers

Do you know how to connect a pressure gauge to the regulator hose and when your treasure hunting in a river do you use weights or fins?

Do you use a tow belt so the regulator isn't being pulled from your mouth and if so did you make one

Yes it would. Also, if you do this for any length of time, I know you will get into full scuba gear soon and would already have your regulator. Either way, you need to get certified to dive.

Is the air hose a regular one for a standard air compressor and is it safe?

Yeah it’s the same, just make sure it’s new so there is no oil residue.

WOW, the air pressure gauge is on the first stage , the tank is on the surface and your 25 feet underwater !! Local dive shops have or can get whips made for this . Dive in a lake, creek , river , run out of air , come up to fast , with NO depth gauge , all the rules still apply !!

We are using our hookah on rivers, creeks, and lake where we basically walk and detect and only use our regulator if we get a signal and have to stay down for a period of time. With the tank and gauge in the canoe or kayak, we can look at the air gauge before descending to make sure we have enough available air. This is not meant to be an alternative to scuba diving.

What is the main reason people use these? Seems like it can't be much cheaper once everything is counted (I dive probably the cheapest BCD available with integrated weights, and love it), and it seems like there is more risk of entanglement hazard with a hookah. Once you are under water, the weight of the BCD and tank are not perceivable. That said, good video covering the process!

You are correct, however, we hunt rivers and creeks where we walk in water from knee deep to chest deep towing our kayak with the tank inside. When we hear a signal we go down to get it. If we have to stay down long, we can pop a regulator in our mouth and recover the target. It's much more convenient to use hookah than full scuba gear.
