There are only two reasons for offering a draw. The first is that you see that you have lost, or you believe that it is actually a draw on the premise that both sides will continue to play without making any mistakes. Both of these things imply a certain kind of arrogance that you should not get into the habit of.

Let me understand this correctly from your comment as it almost sounds like you’re saying I’m arrogant for not taking the draw offers from my younger opponents? - though I’m well aware of kids not being well versed in the endgame? Perhaps I am misunderstanding. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

@@highgroundchess In chess, the game should be ended by the pieces on the board, not by the agreements and arrangements of the players.
