Here is my 4-way test between two different laundry balls vs Tide vs only water to see if there is a significant difference.

Oh wow, imagine that, sticking random plastic in the laundry doesn't work better than detergent. I'm glad you made this video, James, since a shocking number of people buy into this kind of psuedoscience and BS products that do nothing, and sometimes they really just need to see it tested from a source they can trust. Also, your test was more scientific than your usual, so I wouldn't worry about the whiners.

It’s difficult to compare detergents as it depends heavily on what you are trying to clean. Store brand and Tide are going to be about the same for dirt but hugely different with other stains. Personally I find Persil to work the best for me, but I have a lot of back acne and Persil is by far the best with blood and other body oils although tide does do better with plant oil/stains (aka grass stains).

Convenience is the ultimate product. Even if you have the best product but it isn't seen as convenient, it won't sell. The opposite works just as well. Businessperson knows this which is why they market their products to be easy to use etc etc. Short of legal law of false advertising stopping them from going to far. Scammers are just business people without anything to hold them back. They don't fear legal law because by the time people catch up they've already make do with the money. Which is why Scammers bank hard on product convenience to the point that it sounds too good to be true. Which is the case but the problem is that people want to believe it because well, things that are good are usually convenient.

The detergent actually dyes your clothes slightly blue which makes white fabrics look whiter. It's the same optical illusion as LED lights looking slightly blue when they're completely white
@m.k.8158
@m.k.8158 4 года назад
Also, all detergents have optical brighteners added-this makes the clothes fluoresce under UV light...since most lights emit at least a little UV, your clothes will seem brighter. If you own a UV light, try shining it on some laundry detergent-it will glow like a Neon sign.
@suzannekemp8985

The very first thing that I noted when you did the test was that you did not rinse the wine stain with cool water, which is standard treatment for wine stains. If you put a wine stain in warm water, yes, it's going to become very deeply ingrained in the fabric, warm water sets wine stains! Other than that, it's a great test and you did a good job. I am using an inexpensive version of these balls, I paid less than $10 for a set of two balls with the ceramic beads at Ollie's. Honestly, it does a fantastic job! If I have a very bad stain I have to pretreat it, of course. Like blood or chocolate or, of course, wine! Other than that I've had absolutely no problem and my laundry comes out great. Now the caveat: I have no little children at my house, I am retired and disabled so I don't get my clothes as dirty as someone who's out gardening every day or fishing or doing any of the other fun things I would love to do. I'm not washing anyone's clothes but my own most of the time. However, my everyday coffee spills, (often), food spills, (often), and average soiling of clothing all comes out with the balls and warm water. I rarely use hot water unless it's something that I personally prefer washed in hot, like towels or sheets. I'm not a fan of the cold water wash, because I don't feel like it's completely clean. Thank you!

I would love to see a video featuring countertop electric food dehydrators. My mom tried to start a business many years ago after creating one of the *best* beef jerky recipes I to this day have tasted. And it's not just my own bias, all our friends, family, and many local gas/grocery marts were always asking when she was going to have more available. She was broke as a joke but managed to get enough support from friends and family to buy maybe a dozen dehydrators and primary ingredients. She then obsessively sliced fresh london broil steak, marinated it with her recipe, and dehydrated the strips on a rotating schedule for prolly 2-3 months straight.

The pH explanation for how these things "work" is hilarious. You can only change pH of water by dissolving something in it, so you either have a ball that can only be used once, or it doesn't change pH at all, meaning that the marketing (infinitely reusable and altering pH) is lying either way

I think you created for yourself, another comparison video. That being, let's say the top 4 most popular laundry detergents. I would love to see that one!😁 Would anybody else like to see James do a comparison of the top for laundry detergents? I think that Tide, Gain, Arm & Hammer and Sunlight, would be the tops and four. Which do you think are the top four, can you predict the winner 😉 (I would choose Arm & Hammer as the winner, if James will do a comparison test 😊)

Don't waste your money, detergent is the cheapest
@kens97sto171
@kens97sto171 4 года назад
Yep,. And if you want to save money. There are videos on how to make your own detergent. It's not that hard and vastly cheaper.. especially if you have a large family and do lots of laundry.
@Dirty_Bear22
@Dirty_Bear22 4 года назад
kens97sto171 making a detergent with comparable performance to commercially available products with diy ingredients would be rather difficult, and more then likely higher cost higher then ready made detergent. Modern detergent is rather advanced with a whole slew of ph buffers, water softeners, enzymes to break down stains, specialty molecules that trap dirt, and surfactants.
@kens97sto171
@kens97sto171 4 года назад
@@Dirty_Bear22 Perhaps.. but I've made some.. it works great for regular average dirty clothes. Can always save the commercial grade stuff for extra tough dirty clothes. Your cost on the home made stuff is really low. About $0.01 per load. It's odor free and works very well.. You need one Tablespoon for a load. Can make powder or liquid. The powder is easier..

kens97sto171 if it works for you that’s great, recipes range wildly and some work better then others. If you are interested this article has a pretty good write up about common homemade detergent ingredients and there possible affects. naturesnurtureblog.com/homemade-laundry-soap-problems/

Watched the ads for Freakin' Reviews! Agree with you about the marketing being a total scam. However they also claim the balls alter the pH of the water, which is what water softeners do, and it increases the effectiveness of detergents. On the other hand, you only need water softeners if you have really hard water.

because detergent definitly polutes water more than washing with regular water. of course this balls dont work, but trying to find more eco-friendly methods for washing is the right step (i think ther eare some eco friendly detergents out there anyways)
@NothingXemnas
@NothingXemnas 4 года назад
@@GaniEmi All modern detergents are "eco-friendly" because the base for them is degradable (sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate). However, even these take a few days to degrade (as anything organic). About that, the very great majority of dirt we send down the drain is degradable! Not only that, but rivers are extremely capable of self-cleaning (from organic stuff, mining waste doesn't work). But when thousands of people do the same every day, nature can only do so much. Of course I am talking about what you waste when you do the dishes and take a bath, not the plastic cups, bottles and bags that manage to float until it reaches the ocean.

@@GaniEmi he says in the video these have been around for years and are proven to not work. They just keep promoting the same bullshit products for decades to dupe new customers. Love oxiclean! Yes I fell for the laundry ball in the 90’s. But I did get my money back. I think a consumer group busted one open and found it had colored water in it. Made me wiser and do my research. Your videos are awesome we don’t need to put a bunch of people wearing lab coats in a pristine white room with four brand new washers to see what works in real life!
