Appreciate the information you shared. Never trusted free phone apps - now I know they can work. Have been using my digital camera as a light meter (in the spot mode with same ISO and lenses as close as i can get) when shooting with a Fuji GSW680 II. it's cumbersome carrying two cameras but it works. ironically I got the idea from one of your urban decay videos. Side note: love your urban decay videos, you can never have too many.

I've got a bit of a different take. I own FV-5 camera for Android, have for years. That app has spot, matrix, and center weighted average. I use manual mode and it gives me real-time preview of the settings 😁 It doesn't have black and white mode, but that's OK. The histogram display is an amazing tool as a preview of where the zones are landing. I don't dislike the light meter apps, I just find them inferior to a real camera app. Cheers.

Don’t have an Android, but this sounds like what I’ve been looking for. Something with a spot would be nice. The pocket light meter seemed like almost spot but more to center weighted and I could not find tech specs or info on it. Might have to go phone shopping 😂. Do you know if it is an actual 1 degree spot or know how tight it is? I do find more assurance in using a “real light meter”

@@DistinctionPhotoLLC I'll look tomorrow - it's very narrow. It's also linked to the focus point, so I can basically tap on an item on the screen to get a reading. The best Android phone deal on the market is the OnePlus 12 at the high end, or the OnePlus 12R at the mid grade. Just swapped back to Android from an iPhone 14 pro max recently, and the available models haven't changed yet. The app management on iPhone was sooo bad, it was driving me nuts.

I’m curious. Are you rating HP5 at 320? I noticed your iso in the phone app set to 320. I assume your metered prism is the same? My experience has been the same as yours. My Hasselblad meter prism and the “my light meter pro” are def in the same ballpark. And also the same as when I use the Hasselblad meter knob. I don’t shoot color neg or chromes anymore but even when I shot chromes it seemed like a half stop difference wasn’t usually enough to make or break an image. Even with their reduced latitude.
@DistinctionPhotoLLC
@DistinctionPhotoLLC 22 дня назад
Yes, The HP5 was shot at 320 metered on both and dev in HC110 1:39 11 min 21c Been a long time since I shot positive film as well but in the right situation remember it being a problem but for most things think you are right and not a big deal. But when different tolerances add up that’s a problem. If you test your equipment and meter you would probably be ok

I would love to the comparison on the light meter apps. I have the MyLightMeter Pro also and have had mixed results when using so I'm really hesitant about trusting it. More curiously, what backpack/camera bag are you carrying your Hasselblad in? I ride my bike into work when the weather is cool or cold and I'd love to carry my camera with me without getting dinged up.

Cool, I want to do a round up and compare the features! The backpack is the one Brevite sent me to review. It is the Jumper. It has really become my favorite as it is light and I can get a decent amount of gear in it. I have put it through some stress and for a fabric bag has really held up well. Probabally not the best protection from the outside but the dividers keep everything safe inside. The Blad with 120mm lens and prism is snug but goes in and out pretty easy. Also pack another lens filters (had small Sony point and shoot on this day) that still leaves the top compartment for other things… extension tubes and spot meter. Also holds a small tripod nicely. My only 2 complaints are that my 15 inch laptop does not fit (iPad pro fits nicely) but that is because it is a smaller bag but would love to have this bag as a walking commute to my studio but that prevents it. The other is no rain cover though I have another from a different bag I pack. It really is a great bag! I did make another vid on it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6m7_YsI8QOs.htmlsi=CCQbWpo4Rtmtzytt

@@DistinctionPhotoLLC It is but when the battery is dead it isn't lol. The weird little battery that it takes is hard to find. I just spent a week in northwest New Mexico for work and since I drove I took my Hasselblad 503CW with me. All I had was a 40mm f4 lens. I shot 2 rolls of Delta 100. 3 actually but I didn't finish that roll and the back may have a light leak (how I know that is another story). I took my Sekonic L758 DR with me and the rechargeable battery went dead. I had a spare so that problem didn't last long. What I didn't have with me was a charger. Long ago I remember my dad using a light meter that didn't require battery's. It was just a sensor and a needle moving across a scale. I haven't photographed anything in almost 2 years. I have to credit your channel with revitalizing my interest and the Hassy for making it fun. Of course the DSLR went with me. I had to use the DSLR's meter until I remembered the spare battery. I probably shot 10:1 digital to film but I had a lot more fun with the film. My V series has a winder on it. I've got the manual winder somewhere. I need to find it. Batteries are a pita and without them the winder won't work. I hope I can get the film developed this weekend but it might be next weekend before I can get to it. Thanks for the videos. I may have to check out one of those apps for a backup to my backup.

@@MichaelLloyd sounds like you had a good trip other than the batteries. Batteries can be such a pita… my little Olympus rangefinder battery was low a few weeks back and I shot a roll about 2-3 stops overexposed! Funny thing is the images look sorta cool. It was Fomapan 400 so they are EXTRA grainy. Light meter not requiring batteries sounds interesting. Glad you got out the Hasselblad!!!

@@DistinctionPhotoLLC I still have the light meter (no battery version) but WHERE I have it is unknown at this time lol It's old. Like 1950's vintage. It was a good trip. Aside from work, I went down to Chaco Canyon the day before I left. The following day I drove from Farmington, NM, through Dulce, Chama, up into Colorado, then back down to Raton, NM. I explored that area a little and headed east toward Clayton, NM. I got some decent sunrise shots of the Capulin Volcano National Monument (I think that's what it's called) shrouded in clouds. I used the DSLR for that. NM sunrises are usually very colorful. I could roam NM, CO, AZ, and UT forever if someone would be kind enough to pay for it.

I’ve had excellent results using My Lightmeter Pro when out shooting with my old folders that have no meter. One thing I appreciate is that the app provides EV values. My Kodak Retina IIc uses EV values.
