Do Mongolians speak English? - Street interview #1 

When I was in Mongolia in 2014, almost no one spoke English with exception of tour guides. It was amazing. I went through my visit speaking an amalgam of broken Mongolian, Russian, Kazakh, and even German. It was amazing! I feel English speakers get robbed of their language studies because so many countries will hear their accent and almost instantly transition to English. But Mongolia allowed, almost insisted I speak the local language. I loved it! Best country I’ve ever visited!

When I was in Ulaanbaatar, although some people are just speaking a vocabulary or two, they are always so nice and keen to help :D

For my experience, I met so few Mongolians who speak even broken English in UB. Young students may know and speak English, but unfortunately 90% (as I felt) of the population doesn't. Sometimes I used Google Translate, but the translations weren't accurate. Also, I think the interview should be done in English to prove the scales they gave themselves😉

and on online class my english teacher has uh files that she uses to take english class and me and my class found how to access to the files and go all the way to the start and enter the files and take it by yourself i forgot but my mom didnt

Mongolians have better English skills than us Japanese. I'm jealous. English education here in Japan is rubbish.😩

But the real question for me is where can I better learn Mongolian. I learned to an intermediate/advanced level many years ago when I was teaching conversational English in Ulaanbaatar. But now I don't have anyone to talk to and have trouble finding much in the way of Mongolian things to listen to and watch.

I was thinking of going to Mongolia as an English teacher but the issue is the opportunities seem few and far between and the salaries are a pittance. I get the impression that few students have the chance to learn from native speakers.

One day you have to go to the British school of ulaanbaatar. Interview with all students.I wanna know how Mongolian young generation speaks and their English skills. So it would be more interesting.

Speaking English is the KEY to the whole World, not just for business and information but also friendship. I am a Czech, and although I have a college degree and many different skills, it's my knowledge of English that made me successful. Even here on RU-vid, 95% of all the videos are in English. Vast majority of the internet is in English, and almost all international business is conducted in English. This fact will not change even after the USA collapses, just like the Latin language was used for centuries after imperial Rome collapsed.

It’s interesting how Mongolians look oriental like Chinese but you can tell how they are not Chinese the more and more you see people of Mongolia and also their language is different

Where was all the English speakers when I was trying to hire translators ? It looks like a lot of younger people are learning english . Its funny i learned to read and speak some russian while I lived in Astana Kazakhstan. I went to Mongolia thinking it would be the same , I landed in the airport and was reading ,going what the hell does this mean . Trying to talk to a taxi driver in bad russian ,just to figure out even if my russian was good he couldn`t understand me. I had some great local coworkers with Himon construction that let me tag along and showed me the ropes of UB.

I was worried about if mongolians could speak or understand turkish. As a turkish speaker I know that turkish got some mongolian words such as aslan, which means lion, çicek- flower, demir- steel, tanrı- god.

It's surprising that children are not being educated in Mongolian, Russian and Chinese. If the children want to study Buddhism it might be useful for them to learn Tibetan as Tibet previously had very strong Buddhist links with Mongolia. I'm not really sure what the current religion is, maybe materialism?

Ironically the most uncommunicated people in the world are the anglophones e.g.: Americans, Canadians, Australians and New Zealenders and British.The reason is they know their tongue became worldwide spoken as a second language, reason by which they never minded to study another one.

Why Mongolian yong guys don't learn and take TOEFL and GRE? they should go to Universities in USA or Canada to learn enginerring and technology, rather go other countries, that is just waste time and money. Why is it that so many people interviewed in these videos talk about Korea and not about China? Considering that there is a Chinese province where there are even more Mongolians than in the so called Mongolia, and the number of historical links between these 2 countries, it is strange for me that no one mentions China but Korea. Just curious about it.
