When I was in Mongolia in 2014, almost no one spoke English with exception of tour guides. It was amazing. I went through my visit speaking an amalgam of broken Mongolian, Russian, Kazakh, and even German. It was amazing! I feel English speakers get robbed of their language studies because so many countries will hear their accent and almost instantly transition to English. But Mongolia allowed, almost insisted I speak the local language. I loved it! Best country I’ve ever visited!

For my experience, I met so few Mongolians who speak even broken English in UB. Young students may know and speak English, but unfortunately 90% (as I felt) of the population doesn't. Sometimes I used Google Translate, but the translations weren't accurate. Also, I think the interview should be done in English to prove the scales they gave themselves😉

Speaking English is the KEY to the whole World, not just for business and information but also friendship. I am a Czech, and although I have a college degree and many different skills, it's my knowledge of English that made me successful. Even here on RU-vid, 95% of all the videos are in English. Vast majority of the internet is in English, and almost all international business is conducted in English. This fact will not change even after the USA collapses, just like the Latin language was used for centuries after imperial Rome collapsed.

It was pure coincidence that I interviewed 2 people who studied in South Korea that day. Or maybe it's because South Korea has the largest Mongolian population (not counting Inner Mongolians) outside Mongolia. Almost 35,000. Of course, there are many people who work and study in China. But not as much.

@@realmongolia101 And is there any particular reason why Mongolians choose South Korea over China? As I said, the "obvious" choice for me would be China for historical and social reasons, considering that there is a big Mongolian community in that country too (I prefer to call them Southern Mongolians rather than Inner Mongolians). And another question if I may ask: why is it that Mongolians from both sides do not cope so well each other? I don't mean that you hate each other, but I met Mongolians from both sides when I was living in Japan, and they did not mix up nor do things together. I asked them but no one could give me a good reason.

@@jalhdezsosa Well, I think you gotta read those historical texts once more cuz a lot of bad stuff happened between Mongolia and China throughout history. I mean, why do you think China built that ''The Great Wall"? Ye definitely to have better relationship with the Mongol tribes. lol

@@fybrogen7473 Even so, there are many more people speaking Mongolian in China than anywhere else. There are even more Mongolians inside the Chinese territory than inside the Mongolian country. You cannot live in the past. Chinggis Khan died in 1227. Khublai in 1294. Mongolians from the South and the North share a common culture. Even the Southern Mongolians still use the Mongolian script, something that Northern Mongolians don't. I think that Mongolians from the North should take that into account. Both countries also share a communist past and present. I understand that there might be some resentment, but I find that it is a pity that both Mongolian sides don't look for stronger ties instead of division.
