The problem is not with Chacos. The problem is in the way you are tightening them. You are putting to much pressure on the buckle! I had the same issue but now I learned.
I did not experience this since I started using my Z/2 7 years ago. I even walked with it on paved road for 12 kms. a few months ago and did not experienced any tightening on the toe loop. One thing I observed from this video is the strap on the ankle was too tight. Look at 3:53 and 3:55 the strap is tight on the skin. Furthermore, on normal walking, your feet only bends less than 45 degrees of angle as opposed to the angle being shown here, 4:03, that is maybe around 45 degrees. You can only bend your feet this way then you go to a kneeling position. That's how I look at it. There is no flaw in my opinion.
Gear Runner looks like it would. I wear Chaco’s almost year round but recently got a wild hair an now I want to try a pair of bedrock Sandals. It’s like a flip flop with a back strap.
Nice video. I hope they fix them to your satisfaction. I recently purchased 2 pairs of Chacos on sale, and have used them a lot for hiking. I did not experience the problem you had ,but I did notice a big difference in how the straps adjusted. One material glides easily for adjustment, the other required wetting for first adjustment, and almost felt stuck or glued in at first. I Love them so far, and I hope customer service comes through for you. I think they should give you a new pair with a different strap material. Good luck.
Arlene Pepera I’m sad to say they did not fix them. I actually just posted the video today. Here is the link to that video if you want to watch it. Thank you 👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ef6SKvVMh6s.html
Wore this type of chaco for 15 years. Hiked mts, played ultimate frisbee, tons of time in the river and never had this issue. If you wear them in sand, some gets in the inside and it's tougher to adjust. This way it stays where you adjust it. If its cutting off the circulation I get it, but give them some legitimate use before reviewing. I changed over to the model without the toe loop to try it out, line it better. Best sandals ever
I took one look at the toe loop styles before purchasing and said, "nope". That would drive me crazy. I own four pairs of Chaco sandals and flips and love them. I hope you liked the ones w/o the loop better.
On my sixth pair of Chacos. Hiked over 2,000 miles in them and never had this problem. You should always try on different Chaco styles before you order. You didn't even break them in right. To each their own. They will take care of your issue. Chaco is a premium outdoor sandal company. Another thing It does not look like that style suits your foot shape.
Got regular milano or the Arizona birkenstocks for a reason because they’re like the most comfortable sandal once broken in and doesn’t tighten like the chacos do. Even when females get the Birkenstock Mayaris, they’re exactly similar to the Chaco Z2 bc of the toe strap but doesn’t tighten up like the Chaco Z2. And the best part about Birkenstock Mayaris is that there’s a self tightening buckle near the toe
Wow! I didn't understand you until I saw you demonstrate. That is so bizarre. I have some with and without the toe strap. When I watched you move the straps, yours moved so easily. I have to legit yank them to get them to move because my are really hard to move through the shoe. That is crazy. Those straps should stay where you put them! Great review!!!
Same issue here! Thats how I came to be watching your video! Im trying to figure it out again today after giving up in the past. Hope you were able to resolve it somehow!
a lot of girls wear their chacos with the toe strap down! you tighten the straps until the toe strap is all the way right to the shoe! i bought a 2nd pair of toes straps and i every so often switch which has the toe strap and which doesn’t! hope this helped!!!
The first pair I got was with the toe strap and I had to wear them a lot to really learn how I want them to fit because they used cut off the circulation in my toe
@@heatheralisa8658 I think the toe straps are cute but it adds double friction to that spot on ur big toe and gives ups blisters easier😓🤧💀but I still wear them🤣🤦🏽♀️♥️I have a really good tan from them lol
They have a fix, for free, because not all feet are the same and they can't make it prefect for all kinds of feet in one design. It's an issue for people with high arches for most people it's fine. Just understand that your feet are different and keep that in mind when shoe shopping in the future.
I have the same problem and have a high arch. But don't see how a high arch has anything to do with the problem. It may be that as the sole gets more flexible from walking, the tendency to tighten the toe straps will go away. I'm willing to put up with the discomfort for awhile to see if that cures it. To me a continuous arch and toe strap is a bad design to begin with.
Id open up the area that the webbing goes through where ot is having the rachet effect. I wear roman or jesus sandals often and it is never an issue when the straps have the room they need through the "pulley" buckles. When free flowing, it should tighten when the foot is bent far, but loosen once you stand back up. I only need an extra finger space around the ankle with the rest of the straps fairly tight. This slack goes where ever it needs to and I dont have a "racheting" issue. I dont wear chacos though, I prefer a flatter thinner sole like rawhide, or tire if Im in lava rock type trails
I have the same problem after they wore in. When I wear them tight I leave them loose and occasionally have to pull the toe loop out. I also have the other style and love them. I have worn several different brands of sandals and Chacos are my now my favorite. Chaco I have found to have the best arch support of any sandal. My all-time favorite would be my old Alps. That was sold to Teva. I wish Chaco would have a different sole design that did not hold mud. Chaco do last a long time. Watch for sales at REI.
I have chacos but in a different strap design and I don’t have this problem, they’re actually pretty great. The ones I have were like 110 bucks, and it’s fine for me. no issues. so I wouldn’t completely write them off.
Gear Runner mine has a toe strap, still is pretty good. I’m sure the ones without the toe straps are too, but I wouldn’t know. Instead of being one thick strap each one is 2 smaller straps, I think that helps
Good video. Thank you very much for sharing your experience. In the case of these sandals I've always found the toe strap uncomfortable even when adjusting it, I prefer the other model with the free toe or the tevas. But in general, if I don't walk much or I have to be all the time adjusting when taking them on and off I prefer to use flip flops. What other brand of sandals have you used? And flip flops? I'd like to see more reviews and content like this on object experience. Keep it up.
I decided to buy the chaco z2 classic for the first time believing that it would be a comfortable shoe. But after wearing it and trying to adjust it, I was not impressed because every step I walked The strap tightened and had to rest and adjust again. I don't know if chaco knows about this problem or not. I believe there are many others who have encountered the same problem. It's $100 not worth it.
My best friend’s birthday is coming soon. For her birthday, I have decided to buy her hiking sandals… I thought it would be Chacos, but your video definitely changed my mind. Thanks for the honest review.
Definitely didn't have this problem with my second pair of Chacos, and the first pair that had the toe strap. Hard to remember the performance since those pair of shoes have gone rogue, just in time for me to find my first pair. My customs don't do that for sure, haven't adjusted them since I got them in Spring 2021. Been wearing the brand for 13 years now.
I’ve been wearing Chacos since 2007 and have multiple pairs of both the Z1 and Z2. Out of everything I’ve done in mine, never seen or had this issue. Chances are you may have done something wrong with the set up seeing as it’s not at all intuitive with the Z2 but I’ve have seen their quality decline significantly since the company being sold and moved from CO.
I watched several videos on how to set them up and followed them step by step several times. They never got better. I even sent them back to Chaco and they put a piece of material in the toe piece because they said this was a common issue and that’s how they solve it. It didn’t work in my case. I wore them once or twice and then threw them in the trash because they wouldn’t give me a refund. They don’t stand behind their products when they knew there was a common problem. 🤷🏻♂️
I've had this exact problem. Day 3 with Chacos and I'm about to send them back. Plenty of Reddit forums about it too. It's not a fitting issue, it's a manufacturing issue. The fact that they know it's an issue and have a fix for it says it all.
so if you where then for a bit they lock up because sand and dirt gets in them. then they lock up and the straps don't move at all. just give it a bit of time
If you wear them with socks, you may not feel it that tight on your toe. The main reason you feel it go too tight on your toe area is because you wear it barefoot. If I were you, I'd buy Chaco Z1 if wearing it barefoot a lot or buy Chaco Z2 if wearing it with socks or tabi socks. In fact, I'm still going to get the Z2 sandals, but wear it with socks
I would agree, chaco is no longer the sandal it once was. Wore mine from late 80’s through early 2000’s. The new “classics” are ill fitting, stiff and heavy. I am sending my Z classics back. Just came in mail yesterday. Sad, was so looking forward to a summer of hiking and water sports in them.
You could also just pull the strap that goes over your foot, closest to the toes completely while the shoe is off and you won't have the toe strap anymore!, the strap for it would just be under your foot while wearing
Did Chaco let you switch them out for some Z/1's? I'm guessing they did b/c they generally are pretty good with customer service. They also suggest getting them dirty (sand will "freeze" your foot settings, thereby making the sandal less likely to move/tighten). Thanks for the video! I was gonna buy a pair of Z/2's and now I am thinking the Z/1's or the ZX/1's would be best for my Fred Flintstone toes ;)
Not cool! Try emailing them again! Sometimes you just get the wrong ‘customer service’ person and this time you may get someone better! So very sorry- I have one pair but have had limited contact with CS. Again so sorry- but your video is great. 🙏🏻
I think, that if you kept the strap that goes over the top of your foot a little looser ( not loose but not cinched down like you do in the video ) you would eliminate your toe strangle problem.
That is a hefty price tag for a defective product! I have looked at them, but haven’t purchased any. Maybe that’s a good thing? I’ll be waiting to see if the fix works. Thanks Andy!!
I think it's more of a break in period than a defect. I've had a couple pairs (with and without toe loop) after 1 use in a river, adjusting is a lot harder and it stays where leave it.
Imh z2 (the ones with the toe strap) are awful. I’ve never liked them. however, the originals without the toe strap are the best damn sandals I’ve ever had! Durable, comfortable, easy to use. I wish you luck in finding good sandals. :$
They can't cinch the toe for every pair cuz it needs to be customized to do that. After you have them for a while they wont move like that anymore. Just keep wearing them
I’m new to seeing this video because i’ve been looking at reviews on Chacos, but have you tried to just leave the strap loose and not tighten the strap where the buckle is?
@@gearrunner Wow, that's a perfect example of a company who cares about the customers! They don't realize that it takes many, many years to build a good reputation, but seconds to ruin it! Anyways, i feel bad for you it didn't turn out good for you, and i can understand your feelings, i have a full box of that kinda sh..in one of my closet i don't even feel good enough about to give them to a salvation association...I guess they will make some good fire starter for the camp fire in the backyard hahahaha! Have a good one buddy! ;-)
Pistachios and Popcorn Yup keen here for over 15 years, they are very good but not perfect, i got myself some Bedrock just to try them out, my gosh i am in love, they are light, comfy, and the big plus is you can get them resoled as well as complete rebuilt, which you can’t with Keen’s. I also got a pair of chaco cloud, and so far so good, comfy and not a single problem, lets hope it stays that way!
Hey! Oh my gosh I thought I was the only one having this problem. I made a review on my channel too and I think it was just that I was tightening them too much. Have you been able to clear this problem up ever with other models? Thanks! :)
AnitaLauren Chaco has a fix for this they say. I sent mine back to them and they are supposed to be delivered back to me on Monday. When I get them I will post a video on if it fixed them or not.
I was so close to getting this style but when I went to try a pair on the strap was very tight even after adjusting. That's why I finally went with the Z1 style and I couldn't be happier!
I feel you got ripped off for how you needed these sandals to perform. The video easily shows the design flaw. They should have allowed a return especially since there is a fix. Even if these work for most other people, they know they have a design flaw.
Backpacking With Jason Mine are back at Chaco now. When I get them back I will do an update video to tell you if they fixed them Or not. They said it should be around 10 days or so.
I feel ya...mine arent even the toe strapped ones and they're kinda a pain in the ass adjusting...too much work for a sandal. Maybe I'll adapt to this new "great" shoe😳 my wife's is a toe strap one and she is pissed....trying to learn it.
chacos are weird might take a few then a few more adjustments. then you beat the crap out of then for 3-4 years and the thin sole comes apart in one piece. now the nylon that is hidden is exposed, i kept using then without the thin sole and those sandals refuse to die.
Josie & Willow Maybe but it still cinches down on them really tightly. They are very uncomfortable to wear because of it. We will see if they can fix them. I’ll give an update. 👍
This isn't a problem with all Chacos, which is why they haven't 'fixed' them all. The fix they offered is a fix for the individual user. This issue occurs when the user has a high arch or a high instep. The toe-tightening is mentioned on their website for users with high arches or insteps, and they have a solution, or 'fix', for those users. But because this doesn't apply to the majority of people, they haven't applied the 'fix' to all of their sandals from the factory. In fact, they are basically doing you a favor by offering the service for free to people with unusual foot features.
Gear Runner how's it going. Just checking on some reviews on Chaco sandals I ran across yours. I had the same problem with my Chacos I'm sorry you went through that man for the money you spent. Was the able to fix yours sandal. I didn't see a follow up review so I was just wondering. My job requires me to wear these sandals. " I know weird right " my boss order these for me. he saw that I have Big very wide feet SZ 13 EEEE " yeah very wide feet " and they did not fit me well. I have big fat toes and when loosen the toe strap I had the same problem tightening on my big toe and I never tighten the toe strap. My boss thought I didn't know what I was doing so I had him to adjust them and he saw my problem. My boss name me " wide foot Bandit " I can't hate on it's the truth. So i either work barefooted or I wear my reef flip-flops that I bought last year and 2 months later my fat toes worn the footbed out." A nice wide footprint " the soles are still new. I'm not a fat guy I only weigh 225 I just got fat wide feet for some reason. I saw a comment about the Bedrock sandals I'm looking into buying a pair. I was wondering did you get a pair by any chance. I apologize for being so long. You have a great Channel keep up the good work. Thank you and you and your family be safe from covid 19
I would never buy a sandal with a toe strap. I do not own a pair of Chaco's. I'm debating Chaco's or Teva's. People who like either one will reply with their recs, but I continue to think about this.
Chaco Disclaimer: If you are not smart enough to figure out how to adjust the ONE AND ONLY strap, DO NOT BUY THESE SANDALS. Buy Teva or Keen but if you can’t complete a sudoku puzzle your not smart enough to wear these sandals.
I followed the instructions on their website to a T they even stated when I contacted them that this was an issue and had me send them back for repair which didn’t work either
Nattawut Kanjarnavoranun You are welcome. I run my channel on honesty. I can’t give something a good review if it’s a bad product no matter how many other people like it or say it’s great.
It’s like breaking in a pair of boots. Got to work through pain at first to get to the promise land. I have been breaking Chaco in for over 20 years. Best Sandler ever
I have many pairs of chacos and have never had any issues with them doing this. Also, the title is misleading. You are talking about one style of chacos, the z/2, not all chacos.
Rich Eastmain.......I'd like to see you survive in the state of Florida without owning and wearing a pair of sandals or flip flops. You would be very hot outdoors wearing steel toed boots all the time. 😆 Some people that work outdoors are forced to wear them while at work but other than that .....hell no!
I just tried chacos for the second time. Dude the straps just eat into my fucking skin! ...even without the toe strap.. I really want the chacos to work for me but they just dont. Altras all the way(even for river walks)
Joaquin -Jack Nava I’m going to give them a chance to fix them Jack. If for nothing else other than to either tell the world that their fix worked or to warn the world to not ever buy them.
