I am Japanese. All Japanese people, including me, are smiling bitterly. It's not sold in Japan, because Japanese people can tell at a glance that it's not made in Japan. Thank you!❣
Holy moly, I just went to Google to get this for my sister's birthday who is an executive chef when I saw this post just above the ad. Man would I felt embarrassed if I handed her this thing for a huge kitchen. Thnx for all ur help. 👍
Hi. I’m professional sushi chef. And my father in law bought me one of this. I spent 5 hours to make it sharp. Using 4 different wet stones. I’m going to use it when I go to camping, but definitely not in my kitchen
I bought a husk on a whim. Horrible horrible knife made from metal they make pots out of. Won’t hold a edge at all. When I ordered it it came with a pair of scissors. The scissors are actually decent.
Made in China but works very well. Don't insult Chinese cutlery because they invented metallurgy and forging. Chinese metallurgy and forging spread throughout Asia and West on the Silk Road to the Middle East and Africa.
Thanks for the sensible advice on this video. Have you tried honing it with a honing stick or sharpening it on whetstones? The biggest issue is the advertising, where the impression is given that it's a hand-crafted thoroughbred Japanese knife. When the reality is that it's cheaply mass made Chinese. I've just ordered an 8" Victorinox Fibrox knife for £29, direct from the manufacturers website - which I know is not the best knife ever made, but it should be good enough for my home cooking.
Not tried sharpening either knife yet. One chap online who has done so gets some reasonable sharpness from it. Others who probably haven't even used the knife might "suggest" the blade will snap off - take your pick. Both blades are still pretty sharp for basic kitchen use even after months of use. I even almost cut the tip of my thumb off with the Huusk blade yesterday slicing up veg. Had it been the newer one I think I may have had to go to hospital for stitches.
I recently bought a Huusk knife like this from a local second-hand shop, for 20 €, just to see how bad it is, as I was curious. And it is no good. It is really bad for a kitchen knife, for any use in the kitchen, even when sharp. It is too thick. The hole in the blade has no real use. The "craters" in the blade only collect dirt and make the knife more difficult to clean. Don't buy this knife. You may get much better new knives much cheaper if you buy them from your local supermarket!
Absolutely agree…mine is insecure handle wise, sheds black bits (what is that by the way??) into food, and as for the finger hole….what on earth is that for 😫😫 just so unbelievably uncomfortable 😣 Angry at this total rip off. DO NOT BUY!!!!
This knife is absolutely not ideal for kitchen use. Of coure you can slice of an onion, and chop vegetables, will cut meat, as any knife in the world. Chefs knife is longer, better shaped, with much thinner blade. That is for slicing. If you try a proper shefs knife, you will feel the difference. I wouild not spend a penny for this knife, and also would not like to have one for free.
cheap 18/10 pot steel from China. doesn't even remotely have anything to do with Japan. the cheapest supermarket kitchen knife is better. same goes for Kamikoto knives with 420J2.
Worst knife I own. Cannot get a good edge on it no matter what method I use. Japanese style knife made in China. Terrible product. Would not recommend.
The hussk ad on RU-vid is misleading it is said the plastic handles regular knife are fake no evidence it’s fake it was always made that way not fake it’s so ignorant misinformation and lies. Some are wood some are plastic handles not fake it’s false advertising insulting others.

I bought this knife and it was immediately apparent I couldn't use it. Too heavy and thick. Tried to return it, no dice. If I took it out of the box it wasn't eligible for return. If I could return it I would have had to ship it to Lithuania (from U.S.A.) at my expense, which would have cost more than the knife was worth. What a scam!
Being very very careful about ordering this knife since - 1, they will ask your payment method information 2, they will allow you to click the knife and other items 3, at this moment, you will not able to find any “check out” click or “cancel” click, you are OVER ! Even if you close the window, you will receive the email about your order information. You want to call the customer service? No way! They will tell you they are too busy! You want to send an email to cancel? No way! They will tell you the same thing - they are too busy to respond! You want to return the order? No way! They have sooooo many ways to make it soooo hard to do so! It is not made in Japan! It is made in CHINA! The sheath is not leather but artificial fake leather
While I can agree that it is not a scam in the sense that you do in fact get the knife (also considering the prior video to this), that does not really paint a good picture, as you pointed out here in parts. For $30, you can get a good quality knife that is made of a higher quality steel and actually made for use in a kitchen. The steel used here is poor at holding an edge and cannot be hardened with heat treatment. I like how you said it ... a gimmick knife. I believe what makes this a scam is the misleading advertising. If you look at the product specs alone, you are getting what is advertised. But the claims, no.
I appreciate your view on it. What do you think would be the best japanese Knife for $30 that is actually legit? Or is there nothing really decent in that price range. Cheers
@@WesleySnlpes That all depends on what the knife is for. Japanese knives come in many varieties, all designed for different things. Without knowing your needs I am assuming kitchen as that is mostly how this piece is advertised... the knife that we in the US could call a "chef knife" is a Gyuto. The more Asian style is the Santaku. The differences is in the blade profile. I eat mostly vegetables, so I do not use a Gyuto much, I use the Santoku and a Nakiri (a vegetable cleaver/knife). For the price, $30 is a budget knife. You are not going to get a "quality" Japanese knife at the price. I would suggest doing a some quick Google research on the brand you look at... looking at HUUSK... the giveaway is easy to spot, the site reads like an infomercial, is filled with sales pitches, offers a "limited time promo" of 70% off, etc. In my opinion, another thing to look at is a chart of the different types of Japanese knives and identify what you are looking at. This knife does not fit any of the profiles. This does not directly mean it is bad, but an indicator of a gimmick product. Lastly, I would caution you to look at the edge of the knife closely. Some Japanese knives are single bevel (ex the Usuba), which can be great, but depending on which hand you use the knife is different and they cut very different. If you are used to the Western or European styles, you will probably want a double bevel.
@@thwaller4955 Thanks heaps for the detailed reply, much appreciated. I was just curious/hoping there was anything half decent from Japan at that price. I've actually got a set of Yaxell Zen Knives I love that I use daily. Have you got any recommendations for a good all round kitchen knife for under $40? I'm trying to find something for my Brother who has just junk knives atm. Cheers It's actually for a gift and I'm a bit lost
@@WesleySnlpes In budget knives that I like... I have been using SELECT MASTER brand from China. I have three of their knives, the A15-1 (9 inch chef's tall, A16-2 (8.5 inch chef's short) and the A-002 (Nakiri). These are not Japanese, but for the price, especially now with the large % discount coupons and discounts, these have been working great. That said, I would actualy recommend a Santaku for the purpose you state, a general all-in-one kitchen knife. That is the intent of the Santaku, general and all purpose knife. This is a preference though, as the Gyuto fits this same purpose to most Western and European users. For me, I prefer the flatter blade and reduced point. Also, I reference the "chef knice" as the Gyuto because I prefer the angle of the edge on the more, usually 8-10 degrees per side and a total blade thinkness of 2mm (and sometimes a little less). Give nthe proce of $40, I am not sure what Japanese option might be available. It would be my opinion to go with an Asian knife, in Japanese style, made elsewhere. If you are not a member of the hate on China crowd, they make some very good quality knives, assuming you buy the good brands. All countries have their junk. You can also look at other more name brand items like Tramontina (Brazil), Victorinox/Forschner (Swiss), Messermeister (US) or even Henckels International (the "budget" Zwilling brand). I could go on for longer, but without more detail, I am taking up a lot of room. Most of the knives that appear to be Japanese made (like this one) are not. It is not stamped right on the knife "Made In Japan", it is most like not.
I SADLY GOT TOOK BY THIS COMPANY! ITS BEEN WELL OVER 30 DAYS AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVED MY ORDER! THEY CALLED ME TO SEE IF I RECIEVED MY ORDER I CALLED THEM BACK AND THEY ACTED LIKE I WAS THE ONE THAT CALLED THEM... NOW THEY HAVE NOT ANSWERED AT ALL! DISGUSTING COMPANY DO NOT BUY !
AND ON TOP OF THIS BADGERED ME TO BUY THE SHARPENER WHICH I DID NOT... IN FACT THE SALES PERSON DISMISSED WHEN I SAID NO THANK YOU, I AM A 20 YEAR CHEF SO I KNOW HOW TO SHARPEN A KNIFE THE @$#% SAID TO ME: YOU CAN'T USE ANY OTHER SHARPENER BECAUSE THESE KNIVES ARE SPECIAL AND YOU WON'T GET THE SAME RESULTS! I HAD TO FLAT OUT TELL HIM HE WAS DISGUSTINGLY RUDE TO BE SO DISMISSIVE AND PRESUMPTUOUS THAT AFTER 20 YEARS OF BEIGN CHEF THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SHARPEN A KNIFE!
While you’re saying “I can chop this potato with no effort”, it’s easy to see that you actually have to put way too much effort into it. It’s clear as day that the knife is way too dull.
So ok, why is it so controversial? Firstly, the hole, yeah that's great if you are getting stabby stabby with people, but not much use in the kitchen. 30 quid for a knife is kinda standard, you are looking at close to a ton for a decent knife of that size. Whats it made of?, how does it take an edge when you sharpen it. Never rely on a knifes edge straight out the box. Also this is not really a kitchen knife, its not for boning or slicing, skinning maybe (in the field). Hey Bob, loving these off topic videos of yours, you review very well, would like to see you making more of these videos fella.. xxx What ever you do, keep doing it big man.
Used it to cut up a lemon jelly for the children…when I served it up for them it was full of black bits from the ‘paint’ on the knife…THAT’S IT 😡 went straight in the bin..angry at this total rip off grrrrr this was a JELLY for Lords sake £30 & postage…NEVER buy the Huusk knife folks!!!!!!!! Huusk, or whoever you are, stick your knife where the sun don’t shine
Christ! If I 'peeled' a potato like that, throwing half of it away when I was a kiddie my mum would have give me a good belt across the ear and made me eat the chunks I was wasting raw! Good video all the same, although I think even now you may be a little generous to Huusk. They used the quality of steel because it is mass produced with very poor quality control, therefore it is cheap.
Mate get a proper kitchen knife. Try a shun. U look like working harder than when I use my real Japanese blade when chopping onions. I can cut so much finer than that knife….
Just received a Huusk knife. The packaging is good but its blunt. Also on the packaging the price declaration is £10 which is annoying considering it cost me £35..ill sharpen it up and see how it is
As I watch this video the saying “ it’s not the car it’s the driver “ comes to mind .I’m no professional chef or butcher by any means, but I did work in a restaurant for a period of time. The point is learn how to use the knives you have .
I already mentioned it in your past video but the characteristics on the box are CHINESE. So as you kwow, the notorious and infamous chinese are cheeting on the blade market. As one one Japanese, I greatly hate these chinese fakers and I repeatedly say "NOBODY SHOULD BUY THIS KNIFE."
I purchased the Huusk meat cleaver from Amazon about a week ago and I just dropped it off for a return this morning. But, I purchased two Huusk knives from Amazon over a year ago and both of those still work really well - and, they are still pretty sharp. I purchased the meat cleaver specifically for cutting racks of ribs, for St. Louis cut spare ribs, but when I tried to use the cleaver, and just to cut cartilage, not bone, it was absolute garbage. In fact, I ended up using one of the Huusk knives that I already owned to cut up the ribs. I even tried to sharpen the cleaver and that did nothing to help get it sharper! The knives I own are okay, but I am going to try and find some authentic Japanese knives to buy.
Thank you so much for very useful info.. Almost I bought the huusk knife bcz in RU-vid adv they clam that huusk knife is made original japanese made ext... Omg... I saw your channel thank you...
Why would you even make this comment when the handle is wooden and it's pretty sharp. It costs 1/3 the price of HUUSK so definitely worth it if you really must buy one of these.
DO NOT BUY…This knife is rubbish; knife dulled in a couple of days and started shedding the black bits into food; the finger hole is uncomfortable. Huusk knife is totally not worth a dime. In fact I’d go as far as to say it’s utter sh**e.
Used mine for months now and not experienced any paint coming off. I guess this might depend on what you are chopping/cutting. I just don't think these are made to any particular standard so there is a massive variation in quality.
I was almost tempted by all the adverts I see for this knife until I saw the comments. Can anyone recommend a decent knife for cutting small veg like onions and carrots etc for a similiar price. I'm in the UK.
IKEA 365-series are good, though they don't come fully sharpened from the store anymore (unfortunate incident where a man grabbed knives in the store and attacked the people around him). Once sharpened though, they retain the edge for a fair time and have good ergonomics for me.
Thanks for the review. In my experience , Cutco knives are amazing. I still haven’t bought one because they are quite expensive, but every time I go to Costco and I see them on display there I’m impressed with how well they cut. You can actually use them and see yourself. They’ve been around for a long time and are definitely trustworthy. The only reason I don’t own one is because I have several knives that do the job quite well, including the edge knife which is a great serrated knife which is less than $20 online.
Cutco knives are decent 440A steel knives but they are extremely overpriced because you are paying for their lifetime warranty and free sharpening service. I prefer Rada knives, they are 1/10 the price of Cutco, are also made in the USA and have a lifetime warranty.
I've just bought one to see if it either lived up to what it said or just to berate them. It hasn't arrived yet, but I stumbled across your video to see if there was something out there like this. It makes sense, and I had no doubts it was a mass produced load of rubbish, but I just felt compelled. I've got knives that cost £50, and knives that cost £800 so I'll put it to the test.
@@R0BCRAM it arrived last week. Its a pointless knife. The blade shape is similar to that of a filleting knife, but its at least 4-5 times thicker than any knife I own, including my clever/chef knife hybrid. If anything, all this would be use for in a professional kitchen is opening a tin. It is sharp though, so would be handy to use when camping perhaps, or anything outdoors if you are wanting to be super rustic and not actually damage your professional knives. Kitchen knife 0/10. Camping knife 5/10 (it weighs a ton) 😅
i just recieved my 23 dollar huusk knockoff from ebay and the sheath is trash vinyl but im not mad at the knife at all . i have good kitchen knives , i bought this for personal protection and it will do exactly what i want . if an attacker doesnt retreat from the ominous size of the blade , theylle damn sure retreat when they get a 2.5 " -- 6 ' deep trench in their guts . also , yes , it will shave hair and slice paper right out of the box .
