DO NOT replace your door latches until you thoroughly test them out and find which one is the problem. I ended up buying the wrong latch and I want to save you the trouble of going through the same thing.
Ouch. I’m currently editing the video to showcase the repair. It’s quite complicated. Planning on launching it this week. However, $400, and especially if it’s OEM, might be a decent price. Still, quite an annoying thing that shouldn’t break. 😖
I’d love to make one some day! Unfortunately, the uneven grounds of where I live make it difficult, and even unsafe to pull this off. Lifting it like the video shows will most likely break the connectors as someone already did on mine. I suggest just grabbing each corner and lifting straight up until the cover is set loose. Try to locate the circle where they connect, and lift up from there. I’ll have a video on this soon. That also brings me to another point: I recommend doing this with a cool engine. That way you won’t burn yourself in the process. The videos I shared are for the Turbo model: 2.0 TSI. Depending on the engine, the oil type and the process can change. I hope this was useful to you!
