Not in hard enduro, although Cody Webb says occasionally he's used one due to massive arm pump but he hates them as well. In pro level motocross and supercross, some riders in some teams sponsored by Rekluse use the auto clutch, but most of the time it's a manual clutch with perhaps some Rekluse parts. Graham Jarvis and Rekluse auto clutch? No he has a manual clutch but some Rekluse parts. Chris Birch says no pro hard enduro riders use the Rekluse. My opinion? When the guys saw a Rekluse EXP auto clutch was fitted to the Beta RR250 for my Canadian trip, they asked good or bad? Years ago I did have a Rekluse EXP auto clutch fitted to a Yamaha WR450F then a Husaberg FE570. What about pro level riders use auto clutches? See the Rekluse review vid. Pros and cons for adventure riding? Both bikes so ran high gearing, then found the Rekluse helped to make the bikes manageable for dirt riding too. The Rekluse EXP auto clutch would automatically slip the clutch in tight terrain, despite the high gearing... perfect. So for hard enduro, no Rekluse auto clutches in the pro class. However, a bit over two years ago we started this cross training - applying trials techniques to dirt riding - and I knew I had to ditch the Rekluse auto clutch and start learning how to use a clutch properly. So here are some impressions on suddenly using a Rekluse again. So pros and cons of the Rekluse auto clutch - good or bad for dirt riders and for the tighter technical terrain I like? So for extreme enduro, no Rekluse auto clutch for pro riders. If you seriously want to develop your riding skills, I think it would be better to skip the Rekluse and learn how to use a clutch. You will see the Rekluse auto clutch in motocross and supercross. It's taken two years of hard work, but I rarely stall my bike now, and enjoy being able to modulate the clutch just how I want it, not in some preset fashion. I still have a long way to go, but I enjoy the challenge. However, if you don't have the time or inclination to develop your clutch technique, then sure a Rekluse will help you a lot in harder terrain. There are plenty of rave reviews about the Rekluse EXP auto clutch, and I feel these are well deserved. However, if you focus on experienced riders with good clutch skills you will see them feel increasingly ambivalent about the perceived advantages of an autoclutch. What didn't I like? Whenever I tried to balance at a standstill, or very slow pace, the Rekluse auto clutch is snatchy and throws the bike off balance, even if you slip the manual clutch to try and compensate. The cheese grater sound it makes isn't very pleasant either. There is always the old problem of stopping on a steep hill and the bike starts rolling backwards. On low speed descents, the engine braking disappears at low revs so you need to keep blipping the throttle to re-engage the Rekluse. And you can't just stall the engine to help lock up the rear wheel for nasty descents. My huge issue was trying to jump larger logs with the Rekluse EXP auto clutch. Clutch control is very important for techniques like the double blip and zap, and I gave up trying to use the clutch at all. I could probably learn how to adapt the Rekluse settings to get good manual control back, but it was a headache with this loaner bike. Also the stiffer clutch springs needed for the Rekluse made manual clutch control very hard work, and my fingers were killing me at the end of each day. I fitted a Midwest clutch lever which helped a lot, but those heavy clutch springs are hard work for manual clutch control. An interesting point of course, is that eventually I will end up using a Rekluse auto clutch again. I'm currently using the super light Clake One Light clutch due to the early signs of arthritis in my fingers, and I know one day that even the Clake will not be good enough to protect my failing fingers. So I may even wind up with a Rekluse EXP auto clutch again eventually.

Got nerve damage in my left arm and the Rekluse lets me get into the tougher singletrack now that I can just focus on hanging on lol. No regrets on installing it!

@@marcusfinne1063 They probably have a list of compatible bikes, I highly doubt it will work on all dirt bikes, not the more obscure models.

Great to hear, Jeff! Do the more recent ones still do that occasional chattering thing? It never bothered me much but always interested if they managed to get rid of it.

@@crosstrainingenduro 2019 YZ250X, chatter started after about 20 hrs, can adjust it out but after a few hrs of racing (hard enduro stuff) it comes back. It does annoy me but I'm much better with it than without in the real tough stuff (no stalling etc). The 250X version uses the expanding disk to crush the plate pack rather than the ball bearings.

I love the Rekluse auto clutch. No stall, very soft. But with a bit training very similar toma stock clutch. A good solution for elderly people to cruise. Maybe not enough to fight hard to win.

I guess it depends on the sport. In motocross the auto clutch is used by a few sponsored riders and they are still competitive. It would definitely not work well for pro level extreme enduro riders, as they use very specific clutch skills adapted from trials competition. Different story for us everyday muppets though!

I’m currently running a rekluse on my used race bike. Came with it installed but I also have the stock clutch in a box. While I find I rely on the rekluse pretty heavily towards the end of an enduro I’ve also noticed my bottom end fine control isn’t there. So, during our summer intermission I’m gonna switch to the stocker and get used to using a proper clutch again. Next year I want to try my hand at hard enduro and I feel the rekluse will hinder the slow speed control

I put a Rekluse zstart in my Cr500. It really transformed the bike for enduro reducing the stalling. If you know the 500 2 strokes, you know they aren’t the easiest bikes to kick start. It also reduced the crazy wheel spin those bikes have, making it track better. I miss not being able to roll start it & a left hand rear brake is a must with the auto clutch. It will roll back on a hill. I have ridden a number of bikes with the Rekluse & can’t think of a better bike to put it in than a 500 2 stroke.

I used to run the Rekluse clutch, but the dds clutch is so light, looking back I could never go back to a recluse clutch, one thing I do swear by is the Rekluse rear brake, it’s the best mood anyone can do to their bike especially for going down hills in a controlled manner.... absolutely love it...

When I bought my bike the clutch basket was notched requiring a replacement. The previous owner had already bought new stock frictions and steels. An auto-clutch crossed my mind, but I justified the $500 saving by putting that cost towards a top end rebuild. Woods riding with someone that has electric start and an auto-clutch sure puts it in perspective why they are so popular though. No shifting or stalling less fatigue. I don't see them as cheaters, more like the smart kids in class that figured out how to do it better with science. The rest of us knuckle daggers can't stand it!

I’ve tried it and still consider them cheating at a competition level. Next time we could allow sat navs with live navigation at the Dakar...... How about that? Just give them all TomToms or Garmins and off you go kids. Or we could allow doping in sports..... How about that? You can call it being a smart kid, hm? The actual fact that it saves you energy or enhances your riding without you acquiring specific skills to deserve it, is cheating. ✌🏻

I have used them. Biggest issue is roll back in extreme situations, not being able to use the gears as a brake is a deal breaker. The other biggest issue is slip over the course of a race, which can get extreme. For normal non racing or extreme applications they are great. For those lacking skill or having a physical deformity they are great. They are much better suited to 4 strokes than 2 strokes also.

I hated the roll back on hills! But I did set mine up so that I had the engine brake until the revs hit idle, so no probs for me there. Who knows, I might end up using one again if something like arthritis kicks in over the next few years.

That's my only complaint, is the roll back on hills, I've been thinking about adding a handlebar lever for the rear brake so I can hold it on hills when I'm off the bike.

My bike had a rekluee auto clutch when I bought it, and I felt it actually made tough terrain harder. There was an extra factor of slippage or delay when trying to pop the front wheel over an obstacle. Another big drawback is that if you stall going up a steep hill, the motor no longer prevents the rear wheel from turning, so you have to keep a foot on the brake. Also no bump starting. I know there are people who swear by them, but I am switching back to a manual setup.

Good points Juney. I think you can reach a level where you will start to hit issues like this and you may need to revert to a manual clutch if you want to really develop your skills in gnarlier terrain.

I like the challenge of trying to perfect the clutch and keep the revs low it adds to the ride. I have also seen first hand that a rekluse does not like all scenarios and multi day rides with sections of heavy beach sand is one of them. Any small amount of slip quickly generates heat and it was my local KTM dealers bike. He said if he lived and rode in the area a lot he would run a conventional style clutch. I still think though that if it gets you out on the trails and your hands and fingers don’t operate like they used to then a rekluse becomes money well spent 👍

I've noticed a lot more in supercross using it these days. Jett Lawrence was in the gate before the race and when he got ready you see his hand grab the clutch but his foot never comes up to shift, also seen his brother Hunter forget the bike was in gear at the gate and when he twist the throttle it jumped forward you can tell he forgot it was in gear. Dylan Ferrandis talked about using it on a Rekluse video, Eli Tomac went down 2 weeks ago, bike never stalled picked it up and took off again. I consider using one as well, do you guys use one on your current bikes?

I used one years ago on my FE570, Jacob. It was geared high for adventure riding but then the Rekluse made the high first gear manageable in the dirt... worked great for that purpose. I wouldn't use it for our hard enduro though as you want manual control of the clutch for various techniques in the snotty stuff. When my fingers get too arthritic I'd buy another one though.

Z-start pro was good on my CRF250x made it smooth on tight tracks and no stalling. Can grab the back guard with one hand and twist the throttle to get unstuck. EXC300 wasn't so good, found it was hard to get moving on really slippery roots/logs only paid $50, still had the manual lever on both bikes

I ran a CoreEXP 3.0 for a while. I won’t run an auto anymore. It needed constant adjustment they slip too much causing excessive heat and on two occasions several of the friction pads came off the expanding ring.

I have 600 hours on my Reklus 3.0 Core installed new when I bought my 2015 KTM 300 XCW. Shell Rotella T4, stock clutch pack still. #1 Rule: Modulate your clutch like you don’t have a Reklus, only let it do it’s job when you make a mistake. Otherwise if you don’t follow this rule you will pick up bad auto-clutch habits. I rebuild my motor top and bottom at 550 hrs minus the clutch because it was still in spec.

I used a Revlock auto clutch in a Husky 300 2T ( it had a cable clutch )which I bought from Slavens racing, it was great, didn't have to touch the clutch lever even when gear and not moving. Wish I could get one for my Xtrainer.

My buddy put a Recluse auto clutch on his Beta (same bike as mine) and he seems to love it. When I rode his bike with it , I just couldn't get used to it. Personally I like to work the clutch and actually know when it is slipping. I was always in too high of a gear and the darn thing would just slip away and get to chattering. He said it makes him a better rider, I say he's lazy! BTW, he can climb stuff that I struggle with so maybe there is something there but I still like a plain old manual clutch.

Yep, the only way to know if you'd really like one is get an extended ride with a Rekluse. I wonder if they got rid of the chattering with later models, that used to drive me crazy with mine seven years ago!

He put his on probably 2018. It chattered but it was probably because he was in to high of a gear. He told me to take them a while to get used to. I just don’t want to spend almost 1000 bucks on something that I’m not gonna like just to try it.

Love/hate for me. I love the benefits it offers especially at the end of a desert race when they put you through a tight twisty wash and you can forget about working the clutch and concentrate on surviving till the end. The hate is it makes me a lazy rider at times and I have to remind myself to downshift.

I'm in the "What pros do and what I do are different things" camp. I don't ride anywhere near their level, so what they're using may or may not be the best fit for me. Then again, most of my fleet is air cooled and none of them have any of that new fangled "monoshock" suspension, what works for me doesn't work for most folks anymore.

I like a manual clutch. I like to control what the clutch is doing. Doing splats and double bips is hard for me with a rekluse. Plus I don't like to futz with tuning the things. Simple is better for me. I keep thinking about running a rekluse cover for more oil capacity, but I don't think it would actually help in my case. It'd just be bling I don't need. Now the anodized butt plug could come in handy for keeping my shorts clean. Maybe one with tassles for easy removal.

I've seen this video already ,but just to find out what they are about. Today, I'm in the market for a new/used bike, and many of them in my sights have the z start auto clutch (I guess this is the current AC model name). My issue is that I have zero use or desire to have an auto clutch, and the issue that is just as big as that is that I don't know how I can be assured of restoring the bike's original clutch, without headaches and delays, since many sellers don't have the old parts, may be missing some, and there are only videos on how to install rekluse AC ,none on everything that we might need in order to bring the bikes back to oem spec clutch wise.

Around 10 years ago my son bought a pro M/C bike ( Kawasaki ) It had a Rekluse clutch. Took a bit getting used to. I can see it being of value in the woods if you don't have electric start.. I think I recall the brake was where the clutch was supposed to be. Weird.. The bike itself was amazing..

A lot of people put a rear brake over there so you can stop easily on a hill with break foot down and not go freewheeling back.

I absolutly love my Rekluse. Makes they average 1-2 a month riders twice as capable as they were. it's proven to be a fact in our small 10 person group.

Never used one and no need to start especially at 64 years old. Life is good. I do like the idea of a stronger and larger case cover with more capacity. Will look into that.

I think I read somewhere it's 100ml extra oil? Not a huge amount. I suspect what happens is Rekluse sponsors the teams and if the cases are being offered for free then the riders must think why the hell not? A bit of extra oil. It might be a bit tougher than the stock case.

I think fir trail riding an auto rekluse clutch voted be good if you want to try some technical stuff but don’t usually always do enduro

As someone with a buggered left hand I'd love an auto clutch but they don't make them for my bike (Gas Gas). I quite often trail ride my CT110 instead just to avoid the pain in my hand. Personally I believe you could do more skills-wise with the manual clutch but you can put in a longer day with the auto clutch.

Can't remember the name but google 'auto clutch' for a USA mob who convert any stock clutch into an auto clutch. It think it costs about the same as a Rekluse. But you have to send your clutch to them for the mods.

Two guys we ride trails with swear by their auto clutch. They come come from a semi-pro motocross background. I will stick with my manual clutch 2 stroke for as long as I can throw a leg over the saddle.

I used to ride with one so I can see why Dallas the narrator likes his. If I wasn't more into the hard enduro I'd probably be tempted to get one again as my aging fingers are starting to feel the strain more each year. And it is cool never stalling!

@@crosstrainingenduro I'm the average Joe rider and I prefer a manual clutch, however a somewhat recent injury that required a clutch hand operation with some metal in my clutch hand I'm thinking more and more that a Recluse may become a good option for me down the road.

I’m a new rider crossing over from street and if it wasn’t for my rekluse I don’t think I would have kept riding or rode as much as I have. Oh and rekluse rocks no matter what you buy from them!!! Great people

Agreed, Autoclutches have a place for some. I enjoyed one on a TE610, and for a while on a 450EXC, but now my interest is lighter bike, technical riding, and fine clutch control is required.

I have a Rekluse clutch in my old WR250F that has 13 yrs use under its belt , my new WR250F 2021 has got the Radius CX installed. My only wish was they were invented back in my racing days , I would have had lots more Gold medals than I have . I swear by them .

I'm not sure, but those bikes imo, are a tad over or under 200 lbs.. I have a 300 lb XT250 4 stroke Yamaha that I would love to see those guys throw it around like I see here.. Or maybe a Harley Wide Glide to go to the extreme.. Now THAT would be something. Don't get me wrong, they are very impressive compared to Joe average dirt rider, just saying the bike has to match what you want to do with it..

Little disappointed when I see them on used bikes for sale. Good for resale, but I much prefer the feel of the DDS. That snap at the end of the clutch travel letting you know it’s fully engaged is something I don’t like to ride without

Those of us that have the extreme passion bug for enduro, mx, hard enduro, trail or just dirt bike riding in general to the point we live and breath it, what the non-shill pro riders do and use is incredibly relevant to our approach to this sport. We may find that none of what they use or do matches or suits our needs, but it gives us a baseline for sorting out what will work for us, especially when we are newer.

I agree, I can't ride like Eli Tomac at all, but they are the ones pushing equipment to the limits. I have the same bars that pro's use because the prices are similar for most renthal bars, but I bought the Leatt 5.5 for 300-400$ instead of the 600-700$ tech 10's, just because I'm not jumping my bike 85 feet, but still get the extra ankle support with the 5.5 I appreciate that I can buy exactly what they got, or choose where to save money if my needs are different then there's.

@@JacobSnover My O'Neils were $260 something, super solid boot, they are plumb wore out though after about 4 years, 100's of riding hours. As I'm shopping for a new pair currently and learning some of the differences in design, I don't dare buy a pair for less than 250 something, I'm not doing mx track. In the 250 and up range is where I need to be for my style of riding, though if the budget was there I'd step up to Leatts too, I doubt I will ever have an interest in $700 boots though lol.

You are right! For many riders this kind of clutch is not right. But I suppose many experts critisize it without tested it before. And my experience is that many do not understand how it works. One of the reasons because I bought it is, that my HBG 350 stalled sometimes. That is okay now.

It's a weird thing. I'm sure some of the biggest critics might actually change their mind if they actually tried one. And then some guys just read opinions on the internet, buy a Rekluse without trying it and actually regret their decision. My take? Always try it first before buying. And stop assuming your opinion of the Rekluse should be what everyone else should believe too lol.

I learned to ride single track with a stock clutch on my 2008 ktm 200xc. I had friends who swore by rekluse clutches for single track and enduro style riding. I test rode several of their bikes with the rekluse and I never got used to it. Then about 6 years later I got a killer deal on a 2008 530exc-r that had a rekluse. I absolutely hated it, not sure if that was because I was so used to my 2 stroke or because of it having the rekluse. My biggest gripe was being unable to pop start with the rekluse. I really never liked riding that bike, it took the fun out of riding for me. I ended up selling it for a little bit more than I paid for it. I wouldn’t use a rekluse in the future unless it became necessary to compensate for an injury.

As you've discovered only too well, until you've had a decent ride with a Rekluse you can't really predict if you'll love or hate it. I'm surprised so many guys shell out all that cash without trying it first. Most Rekluse users are fervent believers and you can probably contact them through social media and they'll let you try it out.

I also think it’s human nature... Meaning if someone dropped that cash not knowing if they’d like it or not they are kind of stuck with that choice. Most people won’t admit honestly how they made a poor choice in product and will still always hype or push that poor choice onto you just so they aren’t alone.

I had a YZ250 with a hydraulic clutch lever. And I now have a YZ250 with a Rekluse auto clutch. I can without a doubt say it’s complete garbage. There’s zero feel to it. It’s very laggy. It prevents stalling and lets you not use the clutch to start. However, you may still need to slip the clutch to keep on the pipe. I have yet to find a way to wheelie or clutch up the Rekluse. It will slip the clutch and accelerate very quickly and smoothly. But it won’t translate to front wheel lift. No matter how hard I try. It’s also very inconsistent. I avoided so many log hops because I simply don’t trust this clutch to give me the control I want of the bike. If you physically cannot use a clutch, I’d recommend this. Or an electric dirt bike. But this clutch isn’t very useful. And it is mandatory in my opinion to add a rear handbrake to prevent the inevitable freewheel downhill backwards resulting in a very painful and dangerous crash.

I thought about an auto clutch, til I really started appreciating using the clutch to manage traction and revs on hills and lumpy terrain. Now I use the clutch too much everywhere, so maybe I should get an auto clutch to undo that habit. But I'm rubbish! 😆

You can use a modern Rekluse just the same as a standard clutch. You can do all the same techniques.

To properly do certain things like the double blip or zap you need to completely adjust the Rekluse to be fully manual. But by the time you master those techniques you'll be able to outperform the Rekluse anyway.

@@crosstrainingenduro - I had mine setup so that it was partially engaging at idle...bike would try to creep when in gear with the clutch out. With it setup like this I could perform all of those techniques without issue, and the auto clutch would still do its thing when needed. Only negative besides cost was that it would freewheel backwards on failed hill climb attempts if a little power wasn’t held on. At best a human can only equal the clutch slipping performance of a Rekluse. Yes I can do that on a good day, with my KTM 2 stroke. The clutch on my 2015 350 xcw had a light switch engagement point. Absolutely impossible to slip consistently, and the stiff pull would wear me out quick. Rekluse took care of those issues and solved the flameout issues as well. Totally transformed that bike. Agree that it’s not necessary on the 2 stroke though.

It reminds me of the senseless violence between protestants and catholics down through history. IMO, I run an Auto Clutch in my 450, no more flame-outs in the tightest places, trick also is to NOT get too complacent with your clutch lever, very easy to do. Im no pro rider by any means and use this for my own riding capabilities and advantages. 👍🔥

I have a problem with my left hand I have nerve damage and two of my fingers that really limits what I can feel and I think the auto clutch would be a benefit to me just because I have a real big problem with feeling how much pressure I'm applying to something with those fingers

I know it's not much cheaper, but try looking into midwest mountain levers, a 9mm clutch master cylinder if it's hydraulic, or a clake one light clutch again if you have the hydraulic.

Well I am looking at a husky, I haven't experienced a hydraulic clutch so maybe it won't be as big of a problem. However it's a matter of feeling/pain. Not pain in my fingers but up my forearm and wrist. Almost no feeling in my pointer/middle fingers. With the nerve damage came twitching that I wouldn't even notice if I didn't see my fingers doing it. Clutch feel is kind of out the window for me. I definitely am going to try just the stock hydraulic clutch and see if I can manage. If pain or finger movement becomes a unforseen issue then I think a switch to the auto clutch is needed. The benefits even far out weigh the consequences for me personally. If on I ride and pain or finger twitching happens I can simply focus on holding on and shifting without the clutch. Still lets me be the dad to my two boys I want to be. It's not a perfect solution but it's a better option then not riding.

A good point, a lot of people forget some bling can be useful with disabilities, old age or infirmities. E.g. Steg Pegz, the Clake One Light Clutch, left hand rear brakes etc.

I once heard some Supercross racers use auto clutches to prevent the bike from stalling during a crash. This makes sense to me because it would save a little time getting back in the race by not having to start the bike again. Anyone know if this is true?

I’ve always kind of wondered the same thing. I went to the mx at thunder valley in Denver a few times for the races and never figured it out. I’ve also been to the events in Phoenix as recently as last year and I do not recall ever seeing rekluse banners or signage in the pit areas. Though most of the time when they wreck it seems like their back wheel never manages to land in a way that they bog the engine enough to stall. They just grab the clutch first then stand the bike up, shift into first and go. Possibly a super heavy flywheel weight as opposed to the rekluse? I dunno.

Perhaps some seek to justify their own decisions by looking at the pro riders. But truthfully, a consistently sucessful pro probably isnt running something that stacks the deck against themselves. Also, when I started racing offroad, I gained valuable setup information from pictures and reading. It was the only source I had. Also, It does verify that wining is possible with a certain setup. I like to know these things. Once these questions are answered we must, then, decide if this product fits our style and makes us better. Cheers

I could think of 1600 other reasons of where to spend my money Barry. Rekcluse clutches aren't cheap. It may have helped with the CRF450L that would constantly flame-out at low revs, but that wasn't much good at anything other than flat gravel roads.

No need to. If you are good you can do clutchless gear changes anyway. All you have to do is take a little pressure off the throttle to unload the dogs and they will unbind and slip across. A good rider knows how to do this. Motorcycle gearboxes are always meshed, it just the dogs that engage or disengage. They are like a dog box in a race car. Its the same thing.

I am an old fart and I need every little bit of cutting edge / cheat mechanism to keep up the young guns. I have been using a Recluse Auto Clutch for one year. After 1 hours of gnarly riding with another hour to go the fatigue sets in and I start making mistakes sucking more life out of my fit Fozzy Bear shaped body. I like the clutch as it helps me stay on the trail longer Anything to keep me riding longer.

Absolutely, Mike! There are a few sponsored mx riders using the Rekluse but I would have to wonder if it cuts down their lap times at all. I suspect if they are getting paid enough by Rekluse they'll happily put the auto clutch in... I'm sure you can adjust it so it won't slow you down at all.

I personally think that the obsession with professional riders gear and equipment is mostly induced by marketing schemes. The fallacy is if you buy these things you will become a better rider. Falling victim to the hype and the status symbolism of it all. As you have proven, to me at least, on this channel. It's I primarily the rider that makes all the difference. Marketing teams would have you ingnor that. Touting grand ideas that you could buy your way up the learning curve. Maybe it will have a placebo effect on some. I for one though don't like the idea of an auto clutch. Thanks for these life breathing vids.

I have not spent enough time riding bikes with Rekluse or even hydraulic clutches to make a valid opinion. Have I ridden bikes with them - yes. Did I like them in the half hour or so I rode that specific bike - no. I like the feel of a cable clutch, but at the end of the day, who cares what you use, just go out and ride.

This is the first time anyone has reserved judgment through lack of use, Dan! Most of the full on critics have never used it, or just done two minutes on a friend's bike then launched into why the Rekluse is so evil. 😂 I won't use one again, but I no issue with any rider who actually likes theirs, whatever the reason is.

I think Rekluse does a huge disservice to the dirt bike community by not integrating the name auto in their auto clutches, since they have several products that aren't auto Clutch Set, and are best known for that product. Deceptive branding and marketing leads the buying public down the wrong path, thinking that they should buy their auto-clutch since we are lead to believe by appearance that Graham Jarvis and other pros use it, with great success.

First lets compare machines, dirt bikes with "E" start and those without. A bike without the button in long sections of technical terrain could quickly devolve into a nightmare of damage to machine and ego .The bike with a button can still be frustrating and damage inducing but less so ."stall and fall". The new autoclutches still offer a high degree of lever control, not total but high and give almost 100% stall proofing . For many of us riders with physical issues or having attained a certain age bracket autos are a no brainer .

Great point, James. A huge issue in the tedious Rekluse debates is that it's often young experienced riders trashing anyone who uses a Rekluse. But if they get early onset arthritis but want to keep riding in their 40s they'll probably change their tune quickly. Many dirt riders simply can't imagine any opinion but their own being 'correct'. 🤔

People perhaps are only looking at what pros are using because regular Joe's want to same edge.. In this case recluse clutches are just a plain lazy way to ride unless you have a hand injury or ailments

I'd rather improve my clutch skills than ride a scooter. And I do like scooters, even offroad, but turning my XR into one would deserve non-covid-social distancing from my mates. Jokes aside, it's the perfect investment for riders who want to buy skill, or at least get the feeling they do. Reasonable of course if you have only two fingers on your left hand, or scooters are just really your thing. But then buy a Honda Cub, it has a factory-rekluse setup and will take you anywhere as proven by every elderly south-east-asian.

The weird thing is I actually started this cross training gig with a Rekluse on my FE570, and it definitely let me do harder terrain at first as I didn't need to think about the clutch... so I can see why Dallas the narrator likes his Rekluse. But I did get to a point where I knew it would hold me back if I really wanted to learn certain techniques, so eventually I stopped using it. But I have zero issues with guys who like them. Each to their own!

​@@crosstrainingenduro A bit polemic what I wrote. Of course it is none of my business what anyone rides, I enjoy seeing different approaches. For me I'm a bit of a purist and it just goes against the grain. Why would someone use it, so he can ride terrain that is above his head. I ride a dirtbike for the challenge not to impress myself or my mates. For me it falls in the category of billet filler caps. It violates the rule of taking responsibility for my own mistakes, something the is violated often in the motorbike world. It's much too often the equipment, the tyres, the fuel map, the weather, the other guy or maybe it just was my lack of clutch-control.

Once I stopped using one I had to regain some lost clutch skills. But with heaps of work I'm actually really happy with my clutch skills now... still stalling occasionally in the really gnarly stuff but rare.

who cares what the pros use and even more who cares what any other riders use. And why would any rider hate them? I could understand not liking or not wanting to use but 'hate'? I don't hate anything about bikes of which I have owned over 100 and still have 30+. Hell I'm happy being on anything with 2 wheels even when youngsters give me grief for wearing my tattered old jerseys which older than they are. . Okay I did sorta hate the beat up old BSA 441 I got in a trade....but even at that....I still miss it.

Wow, so much misinformation about auto clutches in the comments. Either these people have never ridden a modern Rekluse, or they rode one that nobody took the time to set up correctly. At anything above idle the lever and engagement feels EXACTLY the same. All the same manual clutch techniques can be done.

It's a huge issue. The most vocal complainers usually have never actually ridden with one (and probably drive an automatic car lol). They are also happy to abuse anyone with a different opinion. The 70 year old dirt rider using a Rekluse so he can ride a few years longer. The young guy with tendon damage in the left hand. And of course everyday riders who think it sounds like a cool idea.

People pay attention to pro sponsored products because they over estimate their own work ethic and skills. Because they put 10 hours on the bike over the weekend they feel it must be the gear that separates them when in fact its not even close to the amount of work it takes to level up. Or, to make riding easier to do.

@@crosstrainingenduro sometimes purchasing products motivates us to put work in. I have been a competitive archer for 20 years and when i need a kick in the butt, I buy a new bow or component. For me, the process is where the drive comes from. When its all structure and no experimentation its hard to stay motivated

Nope. I am a very experienced rider. When I watch all these videos of the pros do it fancy tricks a lot of times there is no Rekluse. The trick videos are much different than the race videos. Many times watching the races I see the guys more focused on hanging onto the bike with power delivery that is definitely a rekluse auto clutch. I was just telling my cousin last night that the pros use them and no one talks about it. Your video is a straight denial video for the pros. I don’t consider it cheating at all.

I'd be very interested to see if there were pro hard enduro riders using them in events, Ben. Cody Webb was the only rider I could find you said he's used one but had mixed feelings about it... and I assumed he is sponsored by Rekluse and was probably encouraged to use one?

They could even have a rekluse clutch in there and a different side cover that doesn’t have the recluse logo. For factory teams that would not be a problem to come up with a side cover to fit.

I suspect they don't, Ben. All of the gold class hard enduro riders I know are masters of the clutch and say an auto clutch would only mess with their technique... and the pro riders are usually way beyond these guys.

@@crosstrainingenduro I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ many times I see them off the bike walking around it letting go here there everywhere and the bike doesn’t die. I see it die sometimes also of course. I’m just thinking they don’t always get a chance to slip it into neutral before they are ejected often and the bike is still running… I don’t know.I am an expert clutch user also. I still kill it often . So do they. But sometimes I see a different picture.

I'm going to put a rekluse on my 2021 yz250z and I don't care what people think. If they want to pull a cable actuated clutch with one finger all day, I just laugh about their shallow ego.

Dallas uses a cheater system (aka: auto clutch). Oh wait.....he's a rePRObate, not a PRO....so I guess he doesn't count! Frankly, who cares what the pros use? What they do is so far from what us mere mortal riders do, it's irrelevant what they use. Ride what ya want.
