So glad to hear your latest cover -- and only 7 hours after you posted it, instead of a month later! I occasionally re-listen to your "The Voice" performances, which is where I fell in love with your voice. I'm also glad, in retrospect, that you did not advance further than you did. In hearing your comments on your videos since then about your emotional struggles in the past few months, I shudder to think what might (no, WOULD) have happened to you had you won and been thrown into the gaping maws of The Music Industry. If you wonder what I mean, just look at all the female artists that started as Disney products until they turned 18, were let go, and suddenly all the years of (mostly) hidden partying and drug use became public knowledge and those behaviors continued into early adult life. Their attempts at self-medication failed, sometimes publicly. Some have made successful recoveries, but how many wish they had never needed to recover in the first place? I keep coming back to a book I read long ago, and I may be dating myself here, called "The Soul of a New Machine". It's a Pulitzer prize winning account of the development of a new minicomputer (yeah, definitely dating myself) by a company called Data General. In it, one of the founders described how in college, there was a brother at his fraternity who would regularly do the Sunday crossword puzzle in ink with no mistakes. The founder eventually realized that he was NEVER going to be that smart, and so started applying himself to his studies even more, and eventually wound up surpassing the crossword-puzzle guy. In a like manner, I see you applying yourself to expanding your artistic abilities, with the poetry, the composing, and especially these cover videos. They're helping you define and layout your OWN foundation, rather than a corporate vision, something that would **never** have happened had you won a year ago. In the words of a favorite tee shirt of mine, "If at first you don't succeed, redefine success." And speaking of "expanding your artistic abilities," I LOVE that you're using a bass ukulele! My brothers and sisters all used one to teach themselves before they moved on to guitars. (For myself, I chose percussion instead.) It's something that will easily let you experiment with different styles and musical emotions, and learn what does and doesn't work with your voice and styles. (Wow. I did NOT intend to write so much. But, hey, it's both raining and snowing outside, and this is much more fun than cleaning the kitchen, and hey! Look! There's a new video on something I've wanted to learn more about! Goodbye for the next 10 minutes 28 seconds!)
