I get a lil mad when people talk about the do's and don'ts because really, make-up is art. It's a personal experience, it's not about *getting it right*. There are techniques that can create certain looks, but there is no WRONG LOOK. Ahhhhhh. (Huge thanks to Kate Smith for the subtitles!)

I have to agree, "No cookie is a bad cookie" is pretty damn profound! LOL My grandmother was Canadian, and I always joke that I'm part Canadadadian. I do live in Washington State so I probably AM! I cracked up when the 2 times Stefan said "shit", there was a beep after it was already said lmfaooo. I also really loved this video. it's refreshing to not have someone tell people they're doing things w/ makeup wrong. Stefan is best makeup artist ever 😊 he is so incredibly creative & talented. everything about him - personality, aesthetic, his words, his art - is extremely inspiring. as dramatic & ridiculous as this may sound, Stefan makes me want to be a better person. he instills a positivity in me & it just makes me happy in general LOL I warned you how dumb that would sound but it's 100% true! 😖

Stefan, I cannot explain how happy this video made me. I hate those videos that tell people how to do their makeup and what's wrong and right. Makeup is art. There shouldn't be restrictions on it because then everyone will look the exact same and the art won't progress until everyone says it's okay to do a certain technique. Anyways Stephan you've been such a inspiration to me lately with my makeup and just as a person in general so thank you so much for this video.

Ugh. I really suck at leaving short comments. Round 2: GO! I want to tell you about my Grandmother. She wears the tackiest, poorly applied make-up. She insists on using liquid eyeliner all around her eyes - as it bleeds into her wrinkles; she wears fluorescent pink orbs as blush; clumped mascara; and bright pink/red lipstick that chaps from smoking too many cigarettes. Her attire ranges from gaudy sequin sweaters to Walmart renditions of Ed Hardy-esque shirts, all with leggings and tons of jewelry.

When I was a child, I remember people trying to convince her that she should wear more fashionable clothes, neutral make-up and to never dye her hair fire engine red, again. She rejected their proposals of "updating" her looks - she LIKED how she looked. She LIKED who she was - my Grandmother was the proud Queen of Kitsch, the Original Hipster. I never understood why she didn't want to change.

It wasn't until high-school that I started wearing weird make-up and unfashionable clothes did I need to have the unbelievable confidence it took to be different. You see, the thing I admire most about my Grandma is her individuality, straightforwardness and amazing sense of humour. So, if she was comfortable in her skin, why couldn't I?

Today, she is still unconventional at 70+ years old, with spiked hair and raccoon eyes. And honestly, she looks amazing to me! So, thanks Stefan for this video, because it is so true! My Grandma would appreciate it! I have been trying to convince her pink would look good in her hair. 😜 I hope these messages are sent in the right order because I don't want to rewrite them again... because I am lazy. This is by far my favorite Do's and Don'ts video. Absolutely love that it's solely focussed on self love and confidence and pretty much the only "don't" is "don't care if people judge you, as long as you're feelin you." I love it, Stef. Thank you for being so wonderful.

YAAAAS this video!!! As someone who has acne/scarring & likes to wear full coverage foundation every day I really appreciate this. People often criticize me for the amount of makeup I wear with more blatantly rude comments like calling me a cake face down to the always lovely "you're so pretty you don't need all that makeup!!" comments, I WEAR IT BECAUSE I LIKE IT AND IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD, people need to stop makeup shaming because the amount of makeup someone chooses to wear or not wear does not affect your life in any way!

I would never, ever, ever say anything mean to someone about their makeup. I would never critique someone's makeup who did not ask for my critique. Makeup is free form and it is art and people should put on their face whatever they want to put on their face. That being said! There's always a tiny jerk in my brain that grumps whenever eyeliner doesn't match and brows aren't on fleek. Luckily, that tiny jerk has no access to my mouth.

brinapeanut As important as your inner monologue is to your own mental health, it's also very important to be mindful of what thoughts you share with the people around you, for their benefit! So, yes, sometimes I see make-up that I feel could be done better, but I realize that it really does not affect me at all, and life goes on. That person is happy with the way they did their make-up, and that brightens my day. That's the most important part - if you have something negative to say, keep it to yourself. OR, as my mother (the elf queen) always said, "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all". x

+Charlamaine Courtisan that totally explains what it means, but I thought you might enjoy knowing where the phrase originated. :) When a horse is fed oats (a high quality grain) vs hay or field grasses, it behaves more energetically. So when a horse was behaving with lots of energy, people would say the horse was "feeling his oats!" :) Or maybe... you don't care. But I love facts like that. :)

I've always liked things that are conventionally ugly and am drawn to strange looks, it's really uncomfortable for me to like weird/ugly/absurd things and simultaneously not want to off-put others or be judged, but I want to be myself. GRATE VIDEO! I think that after watching this, I for the first time haven't felt bad for wanting to wear make-up. as someone who, growing up, never had a clue about makeup or how to apply it, i find myself fighting the urge to go into a beauty supply store and just telling someone to fix me. nowadays, i still really suck at the more complex stuff. when i attempt the smokey eyes, i end up looking like i got a black eye. so i end up making it look as minimal as possible. no eyeliner or shadow or anything else i could mess up. but watching your video really gave me a bit more confidence in myself. thank you for that.
