Do Straw Blankets Work?? // Summer Seeding Update

You can grow grass in the summer, although it's not at all the best time to do it for cool season grasses. Some keys to being successful:
1. Proper dirt prep is key. You need good seed to soil contact and you need something for the seed to root down into.
2. Covering your seed to prevent it from washing out (as seen in the video) would have been HUGE in helping keep my seed and dirt in place.
3. Keep the seed and grass sprouts moist. Especially in the summer time when it's hot and dry, you don't want your seed or new grass to dry out, causing it to die in the summer heat.

When you talked about imagining what it’s going to look like in 3 years…that’s what it’s all about. Having a vision and enjoying the ride along the way. Too many people want it right…right now. Doesn’t work that way. Look forward to seeing it progress. I’m in the second season on mine and still have 2 or 3 more to be where i want. That just means more fun. Keep up the good work dude!

For the Johnson grass, this might work. I put 1 ounce of Roundup concentrate in a bottle of foaming soap. I then pump the foam out while wearing gloves, and wipe it on the plants I want to die, being careful not to touch the good grass. It's not perfect, and sometimes good grass gets hurt too, but it's really working well on the weeds. This should be easy to do on those huge plants. I thought those were corn. :)
@TheLawnWhisperer

I had a large row of large blackberry bushes on the other side of my fence, the runners kept coming up in my yard. I tried everything, but the root balls just got bigger until, I cut off a branch , drilled a hole in the middle of the live ßtem, then filled that hole with round up concentrate. That bush died roots and all, did it to the rest and have been bush free since.
