According to the National Transportation Safety Board, as reported on February 12, 2024, these are the stats on fires per 100,000 vehicles sold: EV: 25 Gas: 1530 Hybrid: 3475 It seems to me EV’s are the safest by a massive margin.

On the Model 3 i don't see a big difference in consumption when I drive with AC and seat cooling vs no cooling, so i don't really think about it. I only had it for one month (hottest month). So i'm looking forward to see how it's affected by heating. Although I think it's difficult to tell what exactly lowers the efficiency in winter. Cabin heating? Battery heating? Grippy winter tires?...etc. The electric motor(s) still generate heat and the super manifold can reroute that heat where it's needed, so it should be pretty efficient...unless there some extreme temperatures.

There were almost 190,000 vehicle fires in the U.S. in 2019, and they happen in gasoline vehicles at a much higher rate. Note that from 2012 to 2020 there was about one Tesla vehicle fire per 205 million miles traveled-versus one per 19 million miles traveled for all types, citing data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and U.S. Department of Transportation.

Two things that I would add to this video: 1) Regarding heating, newer Teslas have heat pumps instead of resistance heating, so the impact to the battery is MUCH less - and should be roughly the same as cooling (since it's the same system just working in reverse). 2) Regarding charging at home, you can control the speed and level of charging through the Tesla app. (in addition to the scheduling it to charge during off-peak hours if cheaper for you then as you mentioned). It's better for the battery to charge slow as that generates less heat in the battery, so even if you have a 50-amp capable charger, you can dial the amps down via the app to 20 or whatever you wish. The app also calculates how long it will take you to reach your desired charge level given the amperage you've selected, so if you know you're not going to need your car for say the next say 10 hours, you can dial it in so that it reaches your desired charge level at or near the time you'll need to drive it. There's no need to throw 48 amps at it and have it fully charged in just a few hours if the car is going to be sitting all night. Enjoying your content, Rob! Keep it coming!
