NBA analyst Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report believes the Cleveland Cavaliers will trade Darius Garland or Jarrett Allen this offseason.
Swartz, who covers the Cavaliers, has Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley as untouchable players.
“Mitchell will stay if he wants to, and Cleveland isn’t going to trade a 22-year-old Mobley this early into his career,” Swartz wrote. “Garland and Allen are the most likely pieces to be moved, and Koby Altman should be exploring deals involving both if Mitchell commits to the franchise for the long term. Consider Garland or Allen the most likely players to be traded.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to be one of the most intriguing teams to watch in the 2024 NBA offseason. They've already let go of their head coach JB Bickerstaff and the changes may not stop there. Retaining and re-signing Donovan Mitchell is the utmost priority for Cleveland. However, keeping Mitchell may lead to collateral damage elsewhere on the roster. That could entail potentially trading fellow All-Star guard Darius Garland. They have to if they want to become a championship team. I am not enamored with an undersized pg who isn’t a consistent scorer, turnstile defender, injury and turnover prone. The contract doesn’t fit the player and they don’t have a 3.

I agree, because look at how we kicked off the year of 2024 while Garland was injured: an outstanding record of 17-1 (after losing the first game of 2024) and we were the 2nd seed in the East. But once DG returned from his injury and was inserted back into the starting lineup by Bickerstaff, we never got back to that level of dominance, and that’s why we finished 3 games worse than last season, not to mention finishing 2 wins short of yet another season with at least 50 or more wins.

Mobley's three point shooting did improve last season. So the fit is getting better. Also having Allen and Mobley both insures a good team even when one is injured.

Everyone forgets that DG was the only Cav who had a good game in playoff series loss to Knicks. He was playing hurt and needs the offseason to fully recover. Also, yoiu guys are assuming Mitchell stays. He still has not signed a long term extension; you're putting so much faith in rumors.

Trade DG for whom? The Cavs are not one piece away. And Spida is on a much more advance timeline, skillswise than DG, Mobley, etc. The prudent move is to move Spida for more pieces and picks that will coincide with the same timeline as DG and Mobley. Build the roster organically for the long term like the OKC and Orlando did.

Why do people think Mitchell is a point guard. Trading away a a good young point guard and replacing him with a two guard doesn’t make sense

The starting 5 only played 20 games together this season. Don't trade darius just to trade him. His value is down from the trade rumors I've seen. I think they should give it 1 more year. Darius looked like a totally different player when he broke his jaw and lost 15 lbs (which is the muscle weight he put on over the offseason).

Agree with garlands growth being stunted with Mitchell. The jaw injury and loosing all that weight didn't help matters either. Either could lead the cavs to to playoffs next year if one was moved also.

this guy's defense is trash, but he tries to make up for it with his offense. Problem is, his offense ain't good enough either. I'd trade him for a scorer in a heartbeat to take some pressure off D Mitch.

@@mauriciohernandez324 He had 7 games with 25+ and 19 games with 20+ as a second option plus he only played 57 games and had to get used to playing after an injury. His main job isn’t to score it’s to run the offense

they are good when healthy and the proper line ups are being played, and with players in their natural positions and proper spacing. we had the run in the middle of the season that proved this .. and its probably best not to have garland close the games although many would argue, its best to stager garland and mitchel so defensively we dont get torched , .. i just dont like it and never have with a small squad, come playoff time we have bad matchups

I think you have a higher ceiling by trading Allen and moving Mobley to the 5. You can skid Wade to the 4 depending on if you get a 3 or a 4 back for Allen. Obviously Ingram is an exciting #3 to pair with Wade and Mobley. Only problem with that line up is Wade likely cannot avoid injury as a starter, let alone a back up. So you still need another quality 4.

Need to get out of that contract moving forward...DM will be 50+, EM will get the max....that's already 2 big contracts....can't pay/afford the max for a guy who doesn't even look like a real 3rd option! He's not batman or robin....injury prone moving forward!

Bring garland off the bench. He'll be six man of the year and give mitchell plenty of rest. A starting five of wade, Allen, Mobley, Mitchell, and at the 2 spot Merrill/strus/ocoro/Bates. This lineup holds teams under one hundred point while the cavaliers score plenty. This front court only needs to score forty five points. Don't forget, the cavaliers were the most feared team in the league when they won seventeen out of eighteen with the same players they have right now. They just need a rearrangement of the deck chairs.

garland doesn't fit, its simple to see, he is a skilled nice kid but doesnt fit, only way the team goes deep is with mitchell at point , wade healthy and other players in the natural position like struss at SG and not SF.. we can end games with a 4 shooter line up and even bring allen in and out of the line up, Garland just has to go for a longer SF if possible lol.. Trade Allan only for another big like Markkanen, if that could ever happen lol ..

We need a traditional point guard. Like Isaiah Thomas or Jason Kidd, even a Steve Nash. We don't need a point guard who can score 30 or 40. We need a floor general, and that is not DG.

Why is everybody so in love with Mobley? Allen is much better, especially with assists. Play Allen as high post center and trade Mobley for a good wing and draft picks.

Can we put the mobley vs Celtics to rest already he play 3 good games against a 4th string center. The Celtics have nearly reach the tax with 3 players, so a backups are there because they cheap not good. Agree 100%. Allen had career numbers this year averaged a Double double and a great contract. He also showed everyone he can run the DHO and short rolls. Just think if a team played a faster pace and let him rock the rim more in transition. Garlands value is junk right now, so thr cavs will get BS offers for him. 1 spurs projection was Johnson, Branham, and the 8th pick. Which would leave thr cavs without a starting point guard. CPJ isn't ready to start and Mitchel can run some offense but not all the time. Then you have to consider Tyus Jones in FA or drafting a guy. Neither seem like great options.

Mitchell has to play point. He's undersized and heavily ball centric. They need a three and D big defensive guard to play along side him. It's a shame Okoro cannot shoot, at all, and LeVert is out to lunch most of the time, Strus is really a backup. I'm not confident that skinny, poor shooting Mobley will be a championship center. He certainly isn't a four. If Wade can stay healthy and Bates can grow up, maybe the Cavs have wings. Cavs need to get something for Garland and Allen, but can't trust Altman, he needs to go. I'd trade both of those turkeys for the Wagner brothers, throw in Okoro if need be.
