Pothos stems have incredibly interesting roots when grown up a support stake. Just like the Monstera shown, they have the thick aerial roots and the smaller (I call them caterpillar feet) roots which latch on tight. Great video!
@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 11 месяцев назад
Yeap they do the same thing! I noticed my giant pothos exploded in size when it started shooting out those roots
@BrendaHudelson-rk3nm
@BrendaHudelson-rk3nm Месяц назад
Can the caterpillar feet be cut off?
@terrywereb7639
@terrywereb7639 Месяц назад
Those " caterpillar feet" are known as " holdfasts" they do the same thing many tendrils on other plants, like morning glory or cucumbers.
@terrywereb7639
@terrywereb7639 Месяц назад
@@BrendaHudelson-rk3nm... probably not a good idea. They are great to have when making cuttings, as they will morph into a soil specific root. Your plant wants to climb, and cutting them off, as in wanting to change a support pole, is an extreme stressor.

Can Monsteras change their back over time? That is the case with my current monstera. I have a rather large one where the internodal space has grown relatively large as well probably because of the lack of light and it seems at least to me to sort of switch directions. I love your videos, especially this one. There are so many myths spread about houseplants and you clearing some of them up is really helpful
@TechplantChannel

@daisywrabbit

I have even seen some RU-vidrs perpetuate the myth that you can grow a plant from just a leaf. you can root a leaf, but it will never grow into a plant, unless there is a node.

I cut my lower leafs multiple times and the plant doesn't even slow down. But I keep all the roots. I just stick them into the pot. I want my Monstera to grow tall like a tree rather than sideways besides the taller it gets the more holes and fenestrations I gets. Once it reach some hight I will air layer it and start a new plant and maybe shorten the old plant a litle so it has room to grow again. And that's my story. I am pretty sure wherever I cut it a new growth poit would appear somewhere. I've done this before.

@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 4 месяца назад
You could paint it or wrap it in strange wrap. Kinda up to you. If it's too thin it will rot fast. You could always use a thick plastic pole in thr soil and attach thr wood to the plastic

i avtually put my monstera deliciosa on a pole the wrong way, just stupid mistake i d8snt notice because I did so many. by time i noticed it had rooted in so well the wrong way and into the ground. the plant is twisting to right itself, but its wonky fir a bit hahaha. leaces kinda sticking out weird. the top of the plant is physically turning. there are 2 types of roots on most aroids.

I hope this isn't a stupid question because I have my first monstera deliciosa where do you get your planks And is it just like a wooden plank or is it something special? Or do you have to get Moss poles I am a little intimidated by the planking situation
@christypan2556
@christypan2556 11 месяцев назад
In my experience, moss poles are not necessary for monstera deliciosas. Just get a wood plank (preferably cedar or something rot resistant), strap your plant to it, and you should be good :)
@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 11 месяцев назад
I just bought pine from thr local hardware store. I forget what the boards were called but they were very thin and about 8ft long so I cut them to the lengths I wanted. Cedar will last longer before it rots innthr pot but more expensive. The most important thing you need to get is UNTREATED. there are chemically treated boards that are sorta green that have chemicals to prevent growth of living stuff I don't know how much it would affect roots attaching but I wouldn't attempt it plus they are again more expensive

Great video. Simple message. Love it. I feel like those starting out in this hobby are super drawn to this plant and they’re not positioned well for success partially because they’re often half hazardously arranged by the growers. Once it became obvious to me there was a back, they made so much more sense. Light, nutrients, and plenty of breathing room for the roots made a difference too. Support is huge too. Good stuff. I’ll definitely share with people trying to master these.

It's pretty funny how often I see videos (and even popular RU-vidr explainer-style videos) where people are attaching Monstera petioles (leaf stalks) to poles or whatnot and ignoring the main stem. Great video - hopefully it helps folks who are currently "miseducated" to understand what they should be doing to get their Monsteras growing the "right way."

It depends on what you want, if you like the bush it's fine as it is. If you want to get larger and larger leaves then I would attach a pole to them. The other thing you can do(im not sure how big they are) is let them get a bit bigger and practice propagating the growth tips and once those root put them in their own pots on a pole and leave your big bushy one be(it re grows after you cut it)
