It’s funny that you posted this today, I actually went back to one of your egg gadget videos because I remembered you had instructions for easy peel eggs (I don’t cook them frequently enough to remember how to do it). This actually seems like it might be useful for people with maybe limited hand dexterity? Especially the peeling part, it can sometimes be difficult if you don’t have nails or you can’t quite grab onto the thinner/smaller/more stuck on bits of shell 🤷‍♀️ I work either my hands a lot and sometimes there’s soreness or stiffness that comes with that so I can see how something like this could be useful if hand strength or dexterity is something a person struggles with.

A suitably-sized spoon does the same job, and has more than one use…
@myheart4apen
@myheart4apen Месяц назад
@@oldvlognewtricks Possibly, sure. But the shape of the Eggler could be easier to manage than a spoon for this use. I'm speaking only for myself, of course, as everyone is different, but holding a typical spoon upside down to peel an egg (or do other things) can be tricky; as it can easily flip over in my paralyzed hand or just not have good leverage at a good angle . Everyone's different, and it can be a lot of trial-and-error finding what works. I prefer to use things I already have handy as opposed to a specialized tool, but sometimes, a specialized tool is preferable, even if it just saves a little time or frustration in one's day.

A casual reminder: if you think a device is lazy, it’s probably an accessibility tool for someone else. I haven’t seen any of these comments yet (thankfully) but there usually is. The first one would be especially useful for people who have issues opening eggs due to motor issues, and the second one for people who have trouble flipping an egg without assistance but they still want to cook.

I agree with Emmy, if I want a perfectly round fried egg, I use a cookie cutter. Likewise, I peel eggs by hand and use a knife to cut them up. If I am making a mass of egg salad then a small mesh cooking/cooling wire rack. Thanks a lot for the great video.
@mmasque2052
@mmasque2052 Месяц назад
Two methods for sliced hard boiled eggs. 1) a sharp knife and a steady hand to get even slices. If you want chopped eggs for egg salad, take a wire cooling rack, put it over the mixing bowl and push the egg through with your hand; voila, nice, evenly-sized bits of egg. 2) as for frying an egg for a breakfast sandwich, cut the top and bottom of a tuna fish can, spray the inside with cooking spray, put it in your skillet and crack the egg into it.

Yeah, I saw Brian Langerstrom use the cooling rack method and I don’t get the point of dirtying a whole rack (and your hands) when the wire slicer works fine. Is easier to wash and doesn’t get smooshed egg on your hands. As someone else in this thread mentioned, a grid-style potato masher works great and that is actually what I use these days.

Emmy, do you know the restaurant hack for "chopping" lots of egg for egg salad? If you have a cooling rack that the wires line up like little squares, about 1cm or so, just put that over top a bowl and mush them through with your hand. It's a little messy, but if you have a LOT of eggs to get through, you can get through them very fast and the eggs are portioned in just the right size for egg salad.

During the summer, our water in the SW desert is hot right out of the tap and never gets cold. If you don't have ice, you can never get water cold enough to help making peeling hard boiled eggs a breeze. They always end up with lots of "pits" in the hard boiled egg. (Water that has been placed in the fridge for a while still gets warm shortly after placing the boiled eggs into it.)

Emmy, I have found that the best tool for me to chop up hard-boiled eggs for egg salad is a round-bottomed bowl, like a mixing bowl, and one of those hand-held pastry cutters. The ones that look like a capital "D", and have five blades or wires. There is another trick to be sure the shells don't stick and tear the whites. It has been scientifically proven that the colder the eggs are, the more prone they are to the shells sticking... SO, I fill a huge mixing bowl with very warm water, only as hot as I can barely keep my hand in it. Leave the raw eggs in the very warm water for 20 minutes to a half hour. If the water is too warm, it will start to very slowly cook the whites up against the shells, and that will make them stick worse. The research I read said that the FASTER you can get the whites up against the shells to cook, the less prone they are sticking. They said to NEVER try to boil eggs directly out of the fridge, and to let them warm up to at least room temperature, but that can take an hour or two. By soaking them in very warm water, that speeds up the warming process to 20 to 30 mins. Also, the very-warm water soaking process gets them warmer than room temp. The warmer they are (without starting to cook them) the better the results, so when you DO put them in the boiling water, as the whites are "pre-warmed" and will much more speedily cook the whites up against the shells.

They had metallic strings like the one you tried here, and the top and the bottom were attached too (which means that they will always line up perfectly, you can use them with only one hand, and you can't lose only one part). Super useful for slicing eggs to put on sandwiches for those who like that, and you will find one in every household in quite many European countries.

Fad Gadget was also a British post-punk one-man-band in the early 80s. His biggest hit was "Collapsing New People" on the 1984 album "Gag." Just showing my age.

Haven’t watched all of the video yet, but I have confidence because dream farm makes very good products in fact, they often remake things that have been around forever, but just make them better.

If you put a tiny hole in the larger end of the egg and use the "dash egg cooker" instructions included, you will have perfect eggs every time and they peel, like butter! It is cheap and eggs are done in 10 to 15 minutes depending on our desired results. You can cook up to 6 eggs at a time. They steam and the tiny hole lets in moisture to separate the membrane from the shell. A knife and fork will do the rest for perfect egg salad or deviled eggs. Use cookie cutter molds for your special shapes. Put butter and or olive oil in your sauce pan on medium heat. Spay mold with cooking spray , place your mold in, add your egg while pressing down with a utensil, like a pair of tongs or you finger, if you dare?, hold for a minute till the bottom forms a solid base. You're on your way to a perfect shape!

A standard folding egg slicer does a much better job at cutting eggs, either in one or two directions. It has the added advantage of leverage due to the hinge. The folding mechanism also ensures that the cutting wires will always align perfectly with the grooves in the slicer. It even makes using only one hand possible: once you got the egg squeezed between the wires and the indentation the egg can't escape, so you just have to press down fairly lightly on the front edge of the top section. Made from metal these egg slicers can last decades, without any risk of releasing the chemical softeners to make plastic pliable. You can even put it in the dishwasher to get a perfectly clean tools.

the flegg is definitely for making breakfast sandwich (cough egg mcmuffin cough) eggs, so not meant for runny yolk fried eggs like that. you're meant to drop the egg in, then break the yolk and spread it around so it all cooks evenly and completely. I've found the best results for breakfast sandwich eggs is actually to let them cook on medium-low heat until you only see a little bit of liquid egg on top, then flip and let them finish. although to be fair I don't use stainless steel to cook eggs because I don't prefer adding unnecessary suffering to my life

They need to put a hinge on the egg slicer. I have an old one that’s hinged like a clam shell, and, except for one line having broken, it still works perfectly.

Urgh, I wanted to love Dreamfarm stuff so much!! The Dreamfarm gadgets I bought like 15 years back, attached my gadgets to the card with a cute cloud with a twisty metal ring thing...I still have it and use as a keyring, but it's not reliable as there's a twisty part. But um...these gadgets should never be $13 each. I have my ultra cheapo regular egg slicer and egg rings that have lasted me forever. And yes, you're absolutely right. I've bought at least 13 gadgets to cook eggs because I'm obsessed with cheap protein that is tasty! That being said the peely thing is okay, but I've seen Indian street chefs use a regular spoon.

I'd just use a regular old egg ring if I was going that route. Or better yet I'd just make Egg in a Basket and my egg and toast all in one

When I do hard boiled eggs I place the eggs in the pot, cover with water, put lots of salt in the water, bring to a rolling boil and boil for about 10ish minutes, remove from the heat and run under cold water until all the hot water is gone and the shell falls off

I actually do like my eggs to be rounder. I use a metal one but the silicone thing makes it possible to flip it. I usually just release it in the pan, flip it and use the spatula to kinda shape it back up; its never as pretty as the one you just made so I will have to consider this. But I will only consider it if it makes its way to Dollar Tree or any place that has it for about $5 is reasonable.

When I made breakfast sandwiches and want nicely round eggs (for English Muffins, for eggs-ample), I use either specialty silicone egg rounds (the brand with the chicky head handles) OR… just an oiled wide-mouthed canning jar ring. Easier peasier.
