Spectrum Noir TriBlend Marker Review
A couple of weeks ago Crafter's Companion reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to try their new TriBlend markers. They are a fairly new product within the Spectrum Noir alcohol marker range. I loved the idea of foolproof blending markers so I happily agreed to give them a whirl.
The details: There are 24 markers currently in this range. Each markers actually contains 3 mini markers that snap together. A light, medium and dark of each color so you don't have to think about what will blend. These colors are also part of the normal spectrum noir range so this could be a nice intro to the line of markers meaning you could buy full-size markers to replace them run they run out of ink or purchase refills to reink them. These markers have bullet nibs

Pros:
Easy to use
Inexpensive
refill inks available
Comfortable to hold
Blends well
Takes little space to store
Great for travel
Caps hold tight but are easy to remove
Nonroll barrel
Fine b=ullet nibs perfect for stampers or coloring book enthuisits.
Cons:
The markers have a small inkpad inside them so they will run out of ink much quicker than other markers, especially the light tones which you will use a lot. (note, refill inks available at about $5-$7 but it would refill these minis dozens of times, also the refill ink is not sold many places so you might have to hunt for it.)
With only the bullet nibs it will limit the size of the artwork you can make.
Bottom line, I really enjoyed using these, they were probably the easiest markers for creating blends in small stamped images. I recommend them for rubber stampers who are new to alcohol markers or who love markers and want a travel set. Two thumbs up from me!

I used to use Spectrum Noir all the time, then switched over to Copics because it seemed "everyone in the world" was using and demonstrating with Copics - but now I am back to Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend!!!!

Hi Lindsay, Yes there will be another 24 Markers coming out. I bought my Triblend Markers on Autoship when they debuted on hsn. The 1st Bundle we got was the 24 you have there. On AutoShip we get a 6pack of these markers every few months. We have 2 shipments left, w/ the last shipment being in Nov. So I would think the next 24 markers will be released sometime after we get ours. That was the deal hsn made w/ Sara from Crafter's Companion.😉🙂 I Hope this info Helps you. Love the Review & also showing how to Blend!! I struggle w/ blending when working w/ alcohol markers. Definitely gonna try your way. When watching you, I started to remember that was how Sara showed to use them when these debuted, but I forgot. lol I've seen other youtubers not use them that way & I was coloring like them & not having much success. Quite a nice concept as an introduction to SN and alcohol markers as they ARE a bit intimidating at first and as we all know, if you get frustrated with blending you rapidly abandon your expensive new pens! I’ve only procured my SN markers in the 6-packs that are most of a colour family or might be every other colour in a family and then got the 24-packs that fill a lot of the gaps - but even then, you don’t necessarily have like DR1-10 or whatever it is - you may need to buy 2-3 of the big sets to get all of them and have close enough together colours for good blending (DR1, DR5 and DR9 will blend but it’s not pretty or that useful tbh!) and the individual markers are not that easy to find. SO having trios of near-adjacent colours pre-set is great and takes all the thought out of it. I don’t think they have much value to more advanced users who have a lot of SN pens already, as they’re not a travel-friendly size etc. It IS a shame they didn’t release these with a brush tip as that’s just so much more useful.

i just ordered these and never realized how big they are lol...cool tho..i saw them on someone elses channel and decided they seemed interesting and i am on a pen binge buying tack so i took the plunge....im a decorative artist on wood mainly but wanted to branch out with pens and pencils..ive been gathering different ones and thought these looked interesting..i dont have any copic as of yet since they are pricey and i had gotten a cheaper amazon find already so...here i am and looked them up again and your page came up about them lol...i am also gathering a lot of tubers and info on things ...thanks for posting!

thank you for doing a fair review. I have Copic and Spectrum Noir I found it was easier to learn how to blend with Spectrum Noir because they put the colors together to blend with Copic it was take your best guess unless you had an art degree but once I learned I like the Comics as well.

I have the traditional spectrum noir and the chameleon bendable markers. I have to say, if you are the occasional crafter the spectrum noir are a better option. The reason is you have more control over the blending process. The chameleon is more of a trial and error process. Happy crafting!

From all the trusted and respected info I've gathered from your review, Lindsay, if I could go back now, I think this would be a great set of alcohol markers for a beginner to get started on coloring stamped images on cards. As you pointed out, for me, I love having the brush tip nib 'now', (although I must point out that the bullet tip nib would be beneficial for those, like me, with arthritis and other hand issues who struggle with staying in the lines, which is something I still work on but have improved greatly w practice). Because I have the Top Boss of markers (no sense on naming it), it would be fruitless for me to invest in these. However, in saying that, I had to learn and repeat a heck of a lot to understand color theory and I love the fact that there is no thinking involved in picking out colors that blend well...after all, I am an older crafter and my time is essential LOL! Thanks, Lindsay!

Just FYI - I got in on the ground floor of these markers when they were first introduced on HSN. I bought the initial 24 markers along with the marker case and signed up their auto ship. Essentially what the auto ship option does is four times throughout the year, they send you 6 new markers (so 18 more colors) so you have a total of 48 markers. I already received two of the additional shipments with two more coming yet later this year. As a matter of fact, the second set came just yesterday. I believe the next set comes out in September and the last set in December. However, I have not seen these additional colors available anywhere else. Maybe in the future?

I have the original Spectrum Noir markers and bought them on sale with the complete set. I also found that those caps were tough to get off. Also, they went dry very quickly without even using them regularly. I just used your tip with the denatured alcohol, and they came right back. These seem interesting, but not enough to want to start collecting ink refills, etc. I have the Caliart markers now. Thanks for the video. I had never seen these before, so it was interesting.

"Weird three tip markers." That says it all to me. I like the idea, but it seems a bit gimmicky and the product seems small. Still, you present them with such a positive approach, they would definitely be fun to use! Not having a brush tip is a bummer, but knowing it in advance is a huge plus. Its perfect for stampers who travel. I craft on the go with some friends so it's perfect for that but I can see needing to refill them often. This is great for a new to marker stamper as it teaches how to blend (the technique stampers want to acheive) simply. Not for large work tho for sure:)

Too expensive for me still and not a small enough tip for those intricate stamps. I really wish stamp designers would make those detailed stamps a bit larger. I bought a beautiful Gina K. stamp recently and it is so small I find it almost impossible to colour even with my Zig real brush markerrs. I was so disappointed when the stamp came. Thanks for such in depth reviews Linds. You are a treasure and you save me a lot of money.

Many stampers are using fineliners for coloring those tiny images. They are waterbased so unfortunately the don't blend with alcohol pens but it is an option. I personally don't care for the tiny designs so I rarely use fineliners but they are an option and quite inexpensive (you just don't get the blend) I prefer larger images to color.

It is very difficult to find the actual stamp sizes most of the time. I think its done on purpose to let us think they are larger than they are. I wish photos had something to gauge size included.

@@twothreefour234 SimonSaysStamp shows all of the stamp measurements but sometimes I forget to look. :( That particular stamp I mentioned above was shown at Creativation 2019 and it looked so good on the cards that I didn't think about the size. I just wanted it. lol It seemed so much bigger in the video.

I got a few individuals at Hobby Lobby and agree with you on most points. I don't find them easy to open. One or 2 of them repeatedly pulls open to expose the interior instead of the nib which is frustrating and potentially messy. My hands have mild arthritis and just the effort of opening can be taxing at times. My only other complaint is the length of the markers because they are too long to fit the marker cases I use. Otherwise they are very convenient for blending as you point out.

@@lisamiller8174 I wonder if it would help you to use latex gloves - available at drug stories and grocery stores - when you pull off the tops. That would give you some traction. Or maybe have 2 cut up pieces of the latex gloves always handy for that use. Just a thought. Turmeric and tons of it (like 2 to 3 tbsp in smoothies and soups daily) with black pepper has been shown by research to be very anti inflammatory and helpful for arthritis. Sugar increases inflammation. I call it the devil's food lol.

I also had the entire set of regular spectrum noir original Markers. The thing I didn’t like about them was that the cap color was often different then the cap, and the chart I printed out. I did get the Triblend set of 24 and Love them!! I got them on eBay for about $75.

I have a fair few Copic Markers, but have a few gaps. I have barely any blues so I began buying some of these purely because the price is better for my budget. I mix sketch & caio pens but typically the ones I love the most are sketch. They are pricey so these Tri Blends fit in perfectly. I wish I'd found this video before. I'd been on the Spectrum Noir site & they said they do not recommend refilling these. I'd think refills would last longer with them being small. If I'm doing tiny areas these are far easier to use having bullet tips.

I love my tri-blends! I use them for my rubber stamping and have had mine for an average of 2 years so far they haven't dried up. I didn't know I could get refills for them. I've not seen the refills anywhere.

I love my Chameleons, but I am not very good at counting seconds, so sometimes I find it hard to get the exact same "start colour"... these would work perfectly for me....

Lindsey, I have a set still un used, shame on me. This video is exactly what I needed to get started. Question, why do we need to blend everything we stamp. Why not just use the color as it is. Pretty new to this world and willing to learn. Tfs. Hugs!

You don't but it makes it look more 3D and less like a store bought sticker. I enjoy it and like the look but you dont have to. You can keep it a flat color. It what ever you like best. You do you:)

if you are still searching you should check out ohuhu! i have heard amazing things about them, they can be found on amazon and comes in many different size packs, 24,48,60,100,120 (not sure if i got that all right but you get the idea) and they just came out with brush tips as well! (48 pack) and larger sets are coming out later this tear which is what im waiting for, but they are very affordable.

The caps are made to come straight off so if you twist and pull, it will pull the nib piece off with the cap.

I was a little cross as I got a large amount of the first lot and the colours are nothing like the caps or on the board... I do use them but I did my own colour chart as can’t trust theirs! Great review though x🌸

Never trust the caps no matter what the brand. Always swatch on your most often used paper for best results (that goes for Copics too lol!)

Looked on UK site, apparently Crafters Companion make the Spectrum Noir lines, but cannot see a listing for re-inkers. That seems a little alarming as I was also thinking a great gateway to alcohol marker colour blending. Someone else suggested re-fills are hard to source; how have you found this? I bet once they have been around a while the sets will go on sale, since they are new they are going for retail but 3 branding shades for $5 isn't bad (but you have to prepare for the fact the ink will run out much sooner than a normal marker so you might be spending on refill inks)

Reading the comments, I am unsure if I could actually get reinkers, but if I could - would there be only one reinker for these 3 separate nibs - or would we have to get 3 for each pen?

Blick stocks all the refills and I think they will be availabe directly from the crafters companion website for worldwide shipping once they fill the orders to their retailers. They just re-branded the inks so stock it low everywhere but Blick right now it seems.

Hi Lindsay! I was wondering what marker paper you recommend? I have a full set of Prismacolor alcohol markers but I have the hardest time blending them . I use just normal copy paper and Michaels card stock. Should I be using marker paper for better results?

For carmaking I like neenah classic Crest in solar white and super smooth finish 80#. You can order small packs at stamp stores online or get a team on Amazon. Prismacolor markers are great, I like the chisel nib on those!

I really like these. I have Bic Mark It markers and sharpies. I really haven't colored with them. Do you recommend coloring with them first to see if it like it or investing in these. I am on a limited income so I'm not sure which way to go. Would you be willing to do a video on coloring with only those type of markers and a blender pen. If I can do deceit coloring with them I could use it on other supplies. Thank you for considering making it.

So here's the deal. I have the complete regular set. These refills have been available off and on (mostly off) for the last couple years. Then there was problems with what was available. As of now, there are no refills (except a little old stock) while they are being "rebranded" I was told they are overdue and it is unknown when they might be available again. I am very sorry I invested in SN. Go cheap or go Copic, but don't count on filling these dinky little ones.

Thanks for your review! Overall I have been pretty happy with mine, I started with a few then got more from One Life Creations. Sooooo my fair skin light marker is already dry 😢 Blick has refills for the regular Spectrum Noir markers & they do have matching color names. However, each color has an intensity number so how do I know what ink to chose to refill? Fair 1 for the lightest?? They are $5.95 each so I don't want to buy the wrong one!! Any advice would be helpful! Thank you!!

Wouldn't it be FS1 for the code? If not it looks like cotton pearl in copic E00 or #26 in shinhan touch refills

I always have problems with the spectrum noirs because of the caps I can not use them. Howare these caps I do have hand problems and I AM looking for easy to use alcohol markers

Wow, there are so many markers out now. I think I messed myself up by buying prismacolor alcohol markers cause they are not refillable. So I really did not save any money in not investing in the other higher priced markers. Oh well, live and learn. Hugz
