Excellent instruction. My Tai Chi teacher calls this "correct sitting", which is fundamental to practice.

This is about the third time I've heard you speak on, "The Tree Pose". I guess it really is the basis of just about everything else. I suppose I'd really better start paying attention to it. By the way, that background music is lovely. Great video.

Yes it really is the foundation. If you like the music you can listen to it on our website: aipingtaichi.com/resources This music is what we play as background music to our classes. It was a CD that Master Aiping brought from China that our students kept asking for so we put it on our website

Beautifull explanation! I loved the video where you pinpoint these so called Tai chi Schools which do not apply the basic principles but still pretend to expand thaier teachings, Keep the good work! A question if I may What are your thoughts about Yiquan, ? it is said that it is also an Internal Style & that it has heavily borrowed from Tai chi, Bagua & Xingyi, I apologize if my question goes way beyond the obectives & interests of your page.Thanks

Thank you so much 🙏❤ I am not that familiar with yiquan but my teacher held it with great respect. She incorporated yiquan's zhan zhuang (tree poses) into our practice.

@@carlosroji4144 Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏❤️ Unfortunately, I never had the privilege of learning Cheng Man Ching's style though I have great respect for it and respect the many masters who trained under him.

Thank you for this. Could you recommend any texts that help one better realize how to use fa jin? I am interested in experiencing as much as possible. Fa Jin is a new term to me so I am interested in the feel of it. Thank you for your time.
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi Год назад
Fajin is explained differently by different people and even the concept of what it is and its approach is different depending on what style of Tai Chi you study. Most people associate fajin as a Chen style concept when the energy is gathered and stored and then released with a powerful fast movement. Before Yang Chengfu smoothed out Yang style, expressive fajin movements were in Yang as well.
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi Год назад
Oops, sorry, fat finger pressed send too soon. I'm not a Chen stylist so I can't speak to Chen style fajin. However if you're interested in fajin from a Yang style perspective, I would recommend the Triessence Martial Arts RU-vid channel. Just a warning: Chris holds very strong opinions against Chen Village that you can listen to or ignore but he breaks down Yang style power generation and fajin in a really excellent way. Hope that helps!

Noob question, but would one practice maintaining this posture outside of tai chi? While standing/walking/sitting? Thank you.
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi 3 года назад
Yes, this is my natural standing position when I am standing for a long time. The pelvis tuck allowing you to flatten your back relieves the tension in your back. And the head position aligning your head on top of your neck on top of your spine relieves neck and shoulder tension so this is my head position all the time.

So you sink/root deep into the ground while you breathe in? Or you have to be rooted both in and out breath? I was always under the impression to breathe out and root when you strike. Same with pore breathing. As I breathe out, my body expands like a balloon.
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi Год назад
You are so right that it is easier to feel the expansion of energy with reverse breathing and it's wonderful this already comes naturally for you! Many beginners have a very difficult time relaxing into their breath so natural breathing is easier for them. When they try reverse breathing they wind up tensing up and can't relax anymore so I always guide beginner students with natural breathing first and learn to relax. Eventually they will also make a natural transition to reverse breathing

@@AipingTaiChi Naturally it did not. It took a very long time from watching RU-vid videos to piece it together. Thank you for responding. =)

so there's a posterior tilt to the hips or is it still 'neutral'?
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi 5 месяцев назад
In Tai Chi, the spine should be straight and the small of the back should be flat. If you have your back against the wall, there should be no space between your back and the wall the entire way down from upper back to pelvis. The Tai Chi pole is a straight vertical pole that skewers you from the Bai Hui point at the crown of your head down through the Hui Yin point at your perineum.

Yes, people of all ages and all abilities can practice Tai Chi. It is a lifelong journey and takes a lifetime to truly master but is immensely rewarding to be on the journey.

Can you withstand pressure on the body with your Rooting?

No, not just with rooting. At least not me.

@AipingTaiChi I see, you should try. Paralel stance shoulder width. Pressure on chest (partner) build it up ofcourse. Then play with your sinking and raising(step by step) front and back (micro circulation). This self-discovery is awesome, when it's correct it feels like nothing. Blessing too you
