This is a brilliant and sustainable start to growing produce at home. More people could do this and save a lot of money. We eat a lot of greens and decided to create a Garden Room in the house. It started on a wall, then moved into a spare room. In there we are able to grow food all year, and in the summer, I'll put out plant pots that I want to bolt and set seed. We grow herbs, greens, broccoli, radishes, turnips, carrots, and beets to also have their greens. We also grow scallions, celery, cherry tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes, and sugar snap peas. The outdoor garden is planted for the season for potatoes, onions, green beans, cucumbers, squash, maize, millet, leeks, and more.

💡 Great idea about re-planting greens. We do the same for Mustard Greens and Okra. The only problem is that most of the regular grocery stores don't have the roots attached to greens. You may have better luck at a Farmer's Market.

I really enjoy learning clever ways to garden with what we already have- I've used grocery produce to re-grow green onions and potatoes, and even ransacked my spice cabinet for things like cumin, chili peppers, and even goji berries! When I'm unsuccessful, it's usually because of my plants getting eaten by something, or just being in a very rough (cold, dry, sun-less) climate. When I grow from seed, I also want to keep seeds for next year, and the plant that I get the most out of is mustard! It made me happy to see this similar brassica and learn how easy it would be to go from the market to the garden!! Thank you for sharing!!!

Several years ago my collard greens somehow survived the winter and grew 7 feet tall, flowered and went to seed. I wound up with a full pint of seeds that continue to sprout. Today I came across your site. I subscribed immediately, a few minutes into the video. City folks are so far removed from nature, growing food on their land is a foreign concept. I am thankful that my great grandpa had a farm when I was born. We moved away to the city, but went back every summer, holiday, and three weekends out of every month. Being surrounded by nature is a beautiful thing, serene. Lots of work too, and a good workout with purpose.

I can relate to you, lyon. My Grandma taught me how to garden organically. My Grandma wasn't school educated. She had farming knowledge that was taught to her from the previous generation which she passed on to me. My Grandma passed away but I hold on to the farming knowledge she gave to me. These skills have been very valuable to me over the years. I'm very grateful for her. She was my best friend. Thank you for sharing, Lyon.❤️ ❤️

Salaam Walaikum, Sister. Thank you for a wonderful Talim. I have added this to my own bag of tricks, which Old Dogs like me seem to be able to learn, after all. For example, this year I learned that most of the Green Onions sold in AMerican Supermarkets are actually baby Scallions! I learned this by taking pity on the poor wilted survivors and planting them.

Hey Sylvia, love your content.I have been growing most of our veggies for years now. When I statrted didn't have much experience but now we eat from our backyard and harvest seeds every year n other plants just volunteer like Spinach n I don't have to grow seeds personally.More people need to take control of their food, its the healthy n its cost-effective.

Here in Los Angeles you see many many tree collards in backyards, so I got some and they are also delicious, easy and reliable. They don’t seed but propagate through cuttings, otherwise they taste the same as yours. I have mine in big pots. I enjoyed your video, I’ll keep tuning in, thanks!

Thanks for showing that I can plant the root directly in the soil. I always try to use water, but it doesn't work well. Now that its warmer, I can try Broccoli seeds are supposed to have the same healthy compounds as the sprouts, so the collard seeds should be equally as medicinal. You have tons!
