@Jungle Scout, I am extremely a newbie wanting to start , I can’t check the sales rank or the no of sales to know if the product is profitable.. unless I buy plans from jungle scout ? Is there a way a beginner can check ?
If you will just check the sales estimate, you can use the JS sales estimator. You can use it for free but for a limited number of times only: www.junglescout.com/t/sales-estimator-v2/
Struggling to create a book that isn’t rejected due to something called bleed. I tried 3 times. How wide do you have to make the design so it’s not rejected. I’m tired of starting over and getting told to stretch the cover for bleed and I stayed inside the red and then outside the red border……HELP
From what I know about Canva and speaking to their customer support, you actually cannot use their images and sell them as-is. You have to change it into your own design in some way by merging elements etc in order to resell.
@@motherofnerdlings Correct. But in this video compositions weren’t created lol. A composition would have been multiple images and/or elements PER page of the book. U can’t put 1 unaltered image per page like that. Canva is pretty picky with their rules believe it or not. I went back and forth with them for specific answers, and trust me, even when you use the images/elements, they have to be combined into a new design.
@@MinReiSakato as long as it’s more than 1 element. Even taking 1 element and just changing the colors is not considered a new design to Canva support. So if u take multiple elements and/or images and combine them into a new design, then you’re good.
As an artist and a book creator all my own created images are owned solely by me and thats copyright ownership. If somebody on kdp rips off my images for their 7 minute book creations I would raise hell with Amazon & KDP and they would probably lose their account. I had an image I created digitally on another online selling site and it was pulled off because of the title and the image I created related to a company's product. I also got a cease and desist email from the company itself. So copyrights carry weight. You shouldn't encourage people to ripoff others artwork. Even if somebody downloads and tries to use as their's a piece of line art they need to alter it significantly to defend it as their own creation in order to resell it. Plagarism is also a copyright infringement.
A very valuable insight into medium content book designs for KDP. One tip from me is to open an incognito window before searching as Amazon will track your searches and screws the results the next time you search.
I was scammed by over $3000 dollars by Amazon KDP Publishing. They advertised to put the book on amazon for $799. After submitting the book, Homoexternicus, The Direction of Man, they transferred me to the promotion department and they wanted $4,500 to promote it on Amazon. We agreed to $2,700 and I paid it. The book never appeared on Amazon with them giving me different excuses. Ray Davis was the agent.
I started publishing low content journals on KDP and was actually selling, when suddenly they terminated my account, kept all of my royalties, and claimed I had violated ToS, but literally refused to tell me what I did. So everyone beware of KDP, they will, and do, cancel your account and will steal your royalties.
Merch did that to me. Waiting for the kdp show to end any minute, likely once I start gaining more momentum lol. Fun fact, my bank returned the wages Amazon tried to take back after initially paying me. They deposited, then the deposit disappeared. Called my bank, they returned it! Who knew? But yeah, beware kdp and merch, they terminate with zero explanation
Wow wow wow, this is one of those moments when u find something on RU-vid by fluke chance and you feel found treasure! What information. Resources, from marketing’s tactics to actually making things reality. This is king of channel deserves awards. So much education and information without wasting any time….Gratitude! Wish you grow exponentially.
I've seen a number of low/medium-content book design videos. This one is the most comprehensive step-by-step book design video available! Thanks, guys! Very helpful.
I am so glad I found this video. I was unaware that Amazon was no longer giving free ISBN numbers for low-content books. Thank you for this information!
At the moment, I'm trying to gather as much information on how to make money online as possible & I feel like, often creators "rush" through a video and really don't go into detail with it, what makes it rather hard to get started as a beginner - but you just provided such value and insight!!! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :D
@@bevfromnc6607 Because you actually need information before you can just "get do it"?? You can't just go out and make money online without ANY information.
I really like how you present all of the needed info, and you show the benefits of Jungle Scout without being pushy. Looks like a great program. I'm going to try making a few books in a niche that interests me, in order to learn, but I will likely come back later and subscribe to JS because the info on competition and finding a niche looks mint!
Amazon KDP scammed me for $4000 dollars and will not give me their corporate address, in fact they are reluctant to give anyone their address. This operation needs to be investigated.
I did my first couple of low and medium content books and I have to point out, the thing with the pink frame (not allowed to get there) is wrong. I thought that first, too, stayed within the pink frame and ended up having my first sample print of a notebook with a pink frame around! So, yes, get to the OUTSIDE lines of the pink frame on the template. If I could post a photo I could prove it to you. Talking about the cover here.
You simply needed to delete the pink frame after you were done using it as a guide. Anything you left visible will print. I don't understand why you think his example in the video of using the pink guide was wrong, because you did not delete it when you were done with it, and you uploaded it to Amazon KDP along with your book file. That is obviously why the book printed with the pink guides.
Loved this, I just helped my Daughter put images she created into a coloring book and we went live today with KDP publishing. Thank you for your videos, so helpful
This is really refreshing to know what to avoid & what to do so we are not wasting our little resources to make a few dollars here & there to pay our bills! 🙏 Thank You So Much for the valuable guidances! You're a Good Mentor & a Good Man Jungle Scout! 🌷🌿🌎💖🕊
this is the first video on creating the cover that included all of the information I was looking for. thanks for explaining things thoroughly. my graphics editor of choice is adobe express, but I was still able to follow along and understand how the functions work(i.e. transparency tweaking).
Thanks. This is my kind of learning phase. direct to the point and concise content. I've been wanting to learn but choosing the Niche is my most challenging one. Its why I need to know the methods to save time and effort to figure out if Im doing it right. Superb explanation. Cant wait for more content.
Wow!IThank you so much for sharing this with us man. I really appreciate this. I've been watching videos for almost a week all day and I decided to give it a go today and created my KDP account. I start doing this with zero expectations for now to see what I'll end up and I focus on creating really quality books. Keep you updated!

Great video, lots of good valuable actionable content, thanks! 😀 However, there is one thing I need to highlight/mention/clarify/correct. At the 9.55 minute mark in the video you speak of royalty rates. 70% and 35%, based on the selling price. This is correct BUT only applies to ebooks, not print books. Print books pay 60%, no matter what the retail price. And since the example you are showing is a coloring book (which cannot be published as an ebook), I think it's important new publishers know this, otherwise, they may be unnecessarily pricing their book at $9.99 or under in the false premise they are getting a higher royalty.
That is definitely ending. Barcodes for low-content books are coming to an end - maybe this month (June 2023). The price for printing is also going up.
This is golden information! I'm so glad that I came across this channel. This was so detailed and easy to understand. Will definitely be giving Jungle Scout and Amazon KDP a try! Thanks again!
Great information, but it is clear to get all this info you have to purchase Jungle Scout. I think it's pricy if you're not pumping out a lot of books. 10 different niches. Since I'm not looking at a LOT of competition but high demand I'm going to wait for when I'm looking for a different niche.
Understandable Vicki! You can use the same tools for FBA Private label, FBM fulfillment, or even Wholesale :) The subscription gives you access to all the tools and our academy!
my thoughts exactly...and the great motivator if they do a really good job is the payout. My brother already brought this up at his school (local High School) with respect to Amazon FBA in Business Classes
Amazingly well explained and in detail , thank you ! Have bean watching tones of videos for my first KDP publishing on Amazon and nobody were that generous with the information and efforts to help us start from the scratch' . Looking forward to watch other videos ... Happy 2023 :)
Hello, i hope you are doing well. I am writing this comment here with a hope to get response from you. One thing i need to ask is about page numbers, We don need to stick to the page numbers which we entered in calculator, ryt? Or can we go bit above and beyond? Secondly, if i have entered 100 pages in calculator, does my front and back cover page count as 2 pages out of 100, or not? Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you for your timely video. Of course I was considering to create low content books, but here you are sharing with us valuable information and tips for the medium content books. Many many thanks and God bless you and your channel! (new subscriber here)
@How I Win the Lottery Great job! Congratulations! ...Still learning and gathering my courage to go further even with the ISBN situation with Amazon.... so so much to learn.... Best of luck to us all new creators of low and medium content books 💪🏼”fighting!”
The majority of KDP upload tutorials feature just two main themes . . . "Make money/live the life you want" - and/or - "Low/medium content books." Try searching for KDP toturials/demos etc. featuring HIGH content books (novels, poetry, scripts, non-fiction, DIY, Hobbycrafts etc. etc.) and you'll find yourself in a desert of almost nothing. There ARE a few, but the ones I've found either have unintelligible narration or muddled presentation. Even those who upload really excellent walk-throughs of KDP protocols and procedures virtually never feature high content books. It's always those same two themes I listed at the start. I'm currently working towards uploading and self-publishing a high content book so, once that's done, I'll make a note of what I've discovered (as a newbie to KDP) and then make a quick upload for my channel.
That's because those aren't called "high-content books". They're novels, poetry books, non-fiction books. There's an ocean of tutorials out there, just use the right terms. "How to publish my novel on kdp," "publish a poetry book on kdp," "how to write non-fiction," etc etc etc.
@@carriebartkowiak That's pretty well the point I was making. However, I wanted to be fair, so I gave your suggestion a try, and almost without exception, the results narrowed down to picture books. Obviously, a story book for children can easily be a picture book (I follow Jules Marriner who has a brilliant channel for that genre and just look at the books by Oliver Jeffers). I tried 'how to publish a novella for children on KDP. That had almost the same result. Indeed, quite a few videos for any genre of children's book actually proved to be just walk-throughs of 'how to upload.' One good point would be that in terms of publication procedures, there seems to be no real difference because everything boils down to a PDF of the text and a flattened PDF of the cover. However, for genres such as, say, scripts, comic-style storyboards, poetry, interactive books etc. the importance of font choices, setting up your word processor page settings to match book sizes and formats etc. all come into play. Those are the areas I've been thinking about for my own project. As for the best walk-through's of uploading that I've settled on as being really helpful (for me) Bethany Atazadeh's was densely informative (I took 2 pages of notes): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hieHzwxZX3g.html and Craig of SPE covered most of the same information but with a couple of additional tweaks: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HZtfPsjxT74.html As I said, I'm keeping notes of my own experiences with a high content book for children. I'll filter out all those that are common across all genres, and will then make my own brief video in which I'll try to at least fill in a few of the blanks for those who are interested in publishing for that genre.
So many of the KDP tutorial videos I've seen are like 10 minutes of hard-to-understand tutorials for how to generate a word puzzle on a separate website but then zero info about how to even construct the book, royalty info, how to make the cover, how to decide how much to charge, advertising, etc. I think the REAL money is actually in making tutorial videos.
@@FrenkTheJoy That last point is a very good one. I focused on (at the most) 3 tutorial videos that helped me complete my first KDP project. I soon realised that almost all others covered exactly the same content and it was just a matter of finding those who had structured their tutorials so that everything was sequenced and clearly explained.
A good review. He makes it easy for sure. That 392 sales/mth in the first year is good if it continues to grow, but with royalty only $1.00 or less, per book, less taxes, than @$392.00 a month… don’t give up your day job. Good side hustle. The idea is to have multiple books doing this. Not so easy but over time, possible. Good luck y’all.
That's the most significant aspect of it - you publish the book once and it continues to slowly generate revenue over the years. Then you can scale up to 10, 20 or even 100 books. It may take a few years to get there, but eventually, it will snowball into enough income to quit your day job for good.
I appreciate that he said $392/month. Most of these "make your own KDP book" are like "MAKE $20,000 A MONTH" and that's like... no way. I would bet Stephen King doesn't make $20,000 a month with just one book, and he's not a brand-new author who's only making word search puzzles on amazon.
'This is the worlds worst boho book cover' omg haha you made me laugh!!🤣😂😂🤣 love this vid, ty for your help! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while with my own art and been looking for vids on how to finally start, and this is perfectly clear instructions! you are a star ⭐
I was listening to you and working on my laptop so I'm using 3 screens I hadn't looked at your face and when I saw your eyes!! BEAUTIFUL!!! OKAY WHAT DID YOU SAY??
Thanks for such an informative video. I will be taking action on this business model this weekend. I hope to have an udate on my results soon. Thanks again
I used to work in a library. If you're making any kind of book that requires the buyer of that book to fill in information, for example a coloring book, maze activity book, or blank journal, these types of books do not need an ISBN, and will not be bought by libraries to be cataloged. So unless you're making a real book and not something you're throwing together for a quick buck, don't plan on getting it into libraries
I have a question about royalties and profit margins. If you price a book between $2.99 - $9.99, do you get 70% royalties regardless of how much it costs to print the book? Because you are not printing the book yourself, you don't need to think about production costs. How can you estimate what Amazon would need to spend to produce it to achieve the desired quality of finished product?
The 70% and 35% royalties are for ebooks. You have to look at what the cost of printing is to see what a print book makes, typically a lot less. Amazon will give you this info when you create your book.
Great video ! Could you please make a second video on how to promote a low content book once it is created ? With free realistic strategies and also paid ones. How to get out off the crowd and start making some sales with a realistic and doable strategies ?
This is all doable but the hard trick is to find at least 50 different images you could put on each page. I think 50 pages is ideal for each coloring book.
Hello! Have you ever tried High Content Books? In our experience, it's much more profitable in the Short, Mid and Long term compared with Low or Medium Content Books
This video doesn’t go into the profit. If you look at the JS spread sheet you see that the books selling at below $6 only have a .22 net. So even if they sell 300/month you are hardly making anything on a title.
Thank you for this practical video ! I have a question : After you do all the steps and you publish the first book, how are gonna next books be like ? Are they in the same niche ? The same idea ? And what's gonna be different between them ? Thank you :)
I'm an artist & want to start making these types of books to sell on Amazon. But my question is, if I upload my own original art how easy will it be for others to steal my artwork? Or would I have to fight something like that if it does happen?
True. Have you ever tried publishing Non-Fiction Books? Are much more profitable in the Short, Mid, and Long term. We've books published almost 4 years ago that still generate money..
After 2 years of working as a clipart graphic designer, when I see how you created the inner pages, I want to delete my portfolio 🙂 But the video is great... I love your tutorials.. 👌
Instructions/example for Dimensions on Canva: Cover 17.475 x 11.250 and Inside Content 8.625 x 11.25 . This is noted in the video at the 12:30 and 18:25 minute marks. Thank you.
This is the first RU-vid Video I've seen ever till the end about this topic, and I really enjoyed your way across describing every single part of KDP low content books)) Thanks Jake ..
I was thinking about getting into KDP and discovered your channel. I have a question about the Amazon account that I will be selling from - can I enter my personal bank account information now, when I am just starting and don't know if I am going to earn any money, let alone how much per month, and then change my personal to a business bank account if I get a steady monthly income flow? I do have a purchasing account. Thanks.
Great content!! I am just a little confused as to: is this an ebook or will it be printed (hence paperback)? also will Amazon take care of all the printing and shipping to the client? and is that price all included in 'Fees'? Also, can we use art drawings from google or other sites in our books?
Currently, it's digital and will be printed and shipped on demand. There's no physical product till an order is placed by a customer. Everything is included in your price and fees. You will want to make sure you are not using copyright or licensed images.
@@junglescout Thanks for the reply! Got it. So Canva's free elements are ok, right? Also in Categories do we choose 'Large-print book (content is 16-point font size or greater)' or we just don't choose anything?
As for Canva's free content, I recommend reviewing their terms here: www.canva.com/policies/content-license-agreement/ You can either print a large print version or the regular one separately. However, please do note that it may affect the number of pages due to font size, so this is something that needs to be considered. Here's a KDP discussion on this subject: www.kdpcommunity.com/s/question/0D5f400000f0Ac7CAE/large-print?language=en_US
You don’t really get 60% royalties you get that minus the printing costs which you pay out of your share of the money received so depending upon the actual printing cost you can end up with net royalties of 25-30,
@@concordep2504 Yes I meant 60% of "remaining" amount. Of course you bear the printing cost 100%. This guy is advertising 70% which is completely false and they are more interested in making YT videos and get clicks than give any real-world experience.
@@prateekagraw You're absolutely right, Desi, I accidentally used the eBook royalty rate (70%) rather than the paperback royalty rate (60%) in this example. However, the same logic applies, and when scouting low/medium content paperback niches, you'd of course want to use the accurate rate per book type. Thank you for bringing that our attention 😀I hope you still found the video useful and can use it help identify potential opportunities! - Jake
I really enjoyed watching this and it has made me really optimistic. I'm going to start, even though the start point of anything isn't always easy. Thank you!
I've heard of KPD, but I just kind of blew it off. I tied doing mugs on Shopify and a printing company and it was very labor intensive due to the number of options, designs, item creation on Shopify, and creating/importing the spec at the printer. Additional work was required to place your designs into stock images to show what they'd look like, besides a pic of the printed mug. I like idea of some kind of book. Maybe not a lot of income, but its still passive once you put the creation out, and maybe making some adjustments after evaluating sales and content.
Finally, someone that tells me to NOT touch the PINK line!! The thing about the coloring book interior, the differences of the lines puts me off and always looking to get some lines thicker or thinner, any advice?
