Detail or no detail (or just some detail) that is the question we can only answer for ourselves. it underscores the blocking in of large shapes you speak of and from there it's just how much detail and realism a person wants to get to. I haven't done any abstract art but I would imagine the large shapes at first and moving toward the smaller shapes would be similar there. Correct me if I'm wrong and thanks for the great advice.

Who was here early enough to see the initial video that didn't have the painting example? I knew exactly what he was talking about in that initial video. However, not having his signature painting inserts and examples in the video? I was wondering why this was in my feed again and I clicked it because I wanted to see if he ever replied to someone who brought up the problem. Once I didn't see the comment and let the video roll, I knew this was the corrected version.

Your videos helped me a lot. In short time you give essential information and deep insights. Thank you. I am a total beginner and struggle a lot with material, witch canvas to use, how to prepare underground and so on. But most important how to overpaint used canva? Do I to scratch the paint with Terpentin? Can I just paint over? Or it us better to overpaint with gesso without scratching old paint? If you could make a video about that, it would be grate. Thank you

I may be wrong here but you probably don’t want to teach this method for a beach scene of just the ocean and a pier right? That’s what I want my first painting to be. I’ve been an acrylic painter since I was 7 years old and finally getting to oils at 42 lol

Hi Chris, I just have another question when you’re demonstrating how you’re doing your landscape painting at 7.12 in the video, it looks like you’re using something to put the white in. Is it pastel? Could you please tell me what you’re using there? Thanks Chris

I've noticed you often flick your brush at the end (or just after) a brush stroke. Is that part of the stroke or forcing paint to the end of the brush? Or just a thing you do for who knows? Thanks for all the great advice!

You rag out the highlights when sketching, so do you run a layer of super thinned down paint then sketch or how do you do that so you can rag it out?

When you mass in or block in the big simple shapes. Do you let it dry before adding in all the finer details or do you work it wet into wet?

Could you do a video on the whole fat over lean thing with oil paint? I feel like there are so many things to oil painting that are hard to teach myself and I’m worried I’m just making paintings that’ll fall apart in 20 years.

Do you have to have a specific art style when selling your art? I like doing landscapes and detailed stuff but I also wanna try abstract colorful art. I heard other people say you have to stick to one thing so you can be known for that thing.

Do you let the thinned out sketch to completely touch dry or just until a little comes off on your fingers?
@paintcoach

I sketch it in with just paint and paint thinner so it sets up very fast. I don't have to wait at all.

@@paintcoach oh, I was wondering because I didn't know if I should wait for the sketch to dry since in older videos you said since it's thinned down it doesn't take long to dry

What medium do you use to cover the white canvas? What do you use as a medium to up the paint from a tube.. mine is too gooey and not moving enough ends up using too much paint.
