My mom always wiped everything down when my family took vacations when I was a kid. I used to think she was over reacting, but as an adult, I see why it’s so important.
My mom always makes a quick stop at a grocery store or something whenever we travel. It’s to buy food and also cleaning products because she absolutely refuses to let any of us use the bathroom without her properly scrubbing it down 😂 maybe it’s an exaggeration on her part, but hey, none of us have gotten sick once so 🤷♀️
As a housekeeper, where we work, we wipe down all of the high touch surfaces with disinfectant and change the sheets between each guest! Of course, I can't speak for other housekeepers and other hotels/bnbs. COVID and a different property in this business (gutting, cleaning, inspecting for bed bugs between exterminator visits, washing literal human urine off of walls, and so many more horror stories) has made us extra vigilant. I always take cleaning supplies when we travel lol
I am so glad that I am not the only one who does all of these things when traveling. I pretty much cleaned the entire room before I can relax and enjoy my vacation.😂
I knew I was normal! I’ve even taken down lace curtains in a kitchen of a unit and washed them because they were so dirty. I always bring my own cleaning things and also do the bathroom shower.
I do this and more to be able to stay away from home but I have OCD so it makes sense 😂 glad that other people do it too and it’s not entirely neurotic of me
Such great tips! I JUST got home from a hotel and while we were there I kept wondering about what I can do to make sure we were safe. Now I have help from you! Thanks so much! Oh…. Side note, we had a jacuzzi tub and I was about to get in when I noticed a tan film in the bubbles.😮After looking closer and grabbing a towel, I realized it was either women’s foundation or self tanner….. probably both! 🤢 We got house keeping and ran a cycle with the jets on to get all the makeup or whatever out and bleached the tub. Curious what would you have done?? PLEASE HELP!☹️🙏🏼
The brown film could’ve also just been sludge from the jets from soap scum, body oils, etc. Having a jetted tub and knowing how difficult they are to thoroughly clean has made me never want to use one at a hotel.
Thank you for mentioning keeping your bags off the floor. I'm always telling others to do the same when traveling. You're the first video I've ever seen that mentioned this. I definitely don't want hitchhikers. I'm also rip all sheets off and requesting new ones because they're not always changed just because they look clean. 😂
Also, carry a good flashlight. I'm pissed that I dropped mine somewhere, not sure how. It was an OLIGHT Seeker 4 Mini which has regular light and a UV channel by double clicking. I'm going to have to wait for their next sale to get another one. The Seeker 4 Mini is a very nice UV light and flashlight in a small package. It's rechargable and it throws the UV light around the room from just one LED.
I always bring my own blankets and of course they been freshly washed before hand. Then i bring my own sheets and pillows and wash them there. And my own towels. Never know. I always wondered what laundry detregent hotels use it always smells so good. Bed bugs are not something you want to mess with so please check. Someone once got staph infection from bed bugs. No joke.
Another tip! Don't put luggage on the luggage rack holder as bed bugs are known to stay in between the crevices of that as well, so instead, put your luggage in the tub until you thoroughly inspect everything first! You're welcome, happy traveling 😁
I had a nightmare of a hotel stay late last year. I found a lot of gross stuff including a moldy lime under the desk. When I went to pick up the phone to call for the front desk, the phone had stuck to the receiver. Absolutely disgusting.
Ah, must be nice to live in a world where you think people do their job each and every time. You’d be shocked at how dirty some of these “luxury” hotels really are. I’d rather be safe and have a nice vacation than come down with something and ruin my trip 🤷♀️ it doesn’t take more than 15 minutes to just do a quick wipe down.
I was the executive housekeeper at a beautiful hotel and I caught a housekeeper cleaning out the coffee maker with the toilet brush , when I confronted her she said it’s okay I cleaned the brush with bleach …… so you never ever know !
First off, nobody uses the hotel phone. As somebody who stays over 120 nights a year in a hotel, I have never done this and have never brought home any unwanted hitchhikers.
