Just found this channel. You both are very informative and I get a chuckle out of some of your videos. Was wondering if your tiny home has the wheels on or off?

Glad you are enjoying our videos! :D Our tiny home has wheels, but they are currently taken off.

I think a more fair comparison is comparing tiny homes that are connected to hydro, water and sewer. However, I would still think that the foot print is smaller than a regular home. When it comes to vanlife, I’m not fully convinced that it’s more ecological than someone living in a small apartment riding a bicycle or walking everywhere.

Good info, nice to see the comparison numbers as well, where do you get your water from? The composting toilet is alittle offputting, maybe a video on how it works?

I live in the Midwest. Virtually everyone here uses natural gas for heating. Many also use it for cooking and hot water (as I do.) Electricity is MUCH too expensive to use for heat! PS: I live in a regular house, but the living area is less than 800 sq. ft. I do have a basement and a one-car unheated garage.

Very interesting comparison, I knew tiny homes were much better for our environment. I find it frustrating that it is hard to find a find a place to park a tiny home, if you get one built they can get pretty costly and how some insurance companies will not cover them. I enjoyed the video you posted regarding these issues. I am glad you are living in northern Canada, I learn so much from your experiences.

So glad you are learning from our videos! We appreciate you watching and commenting. The world of tiny homes certainly is frustrating at times, and finding a parking spot is one of the worst issues for sure.

Really like your videos, good info. I’ve been wanting a single level tiny home for quite sometime. I plan to be in the SW. I would have solar, water catchment (sp?), composting toilet, although I do have a place where I might park the tiny house which does have hookups. I don’t have need for a TV or stereo system as long as I have internet. I use an induction burner and air-fryer and have a half-size washer (won’t need a dryer in the desert). I’ve been downsizing in my house.- already use less electricity and water than when I first moved in. If you pay attention, you can reduce a lot of excess. Would need a small high top container for storage - being realistic about art supplies, tools etc. Would also put a modular (removable) deck since I would be spending most of my time there. Now if I can just figure out a way to do this! 😎

According to my latest water bill, I use an average of 345 gallons of water per week. There is just me, plus one dog and one cat.

This is exciting to have found your RU-vid channel. We also live in a 260 square-foot tiny home, and have been in it for a little over two years now. Hope to find some exciting things that will continue to help us live in our home. Right now we’re having difficulty because our town is considering it and RV. So we have to leave five months out of the year. Any thoughts on that?

New to your channel. I'm a senior, almost 72, in SW Ohio. Will you have a family on your land?

re; water usage. has not so much to do with the size of the home, it's how conservative the owners. you don't have to use excess water just cus your house is bigger. just sayin.

When it comes to the building materials, how long does it last for before it becomes unlivable and a new home needs to be built to replace it? Caravans are only livable for 15 years before they need replacing (in the UK, it can be difficult for older caravans to remain on a caravan site.) If they have to be replaced that would be costly. Last summer we were on holiday for a week in a shepherd's hut which had a composting toilet and I wasn't a fan on using it because I was always worried what would happen if I was ill as I sometimes have problems with acid reflux and my medication. It's more convenient to use regular toilets when you have issues like that. Regular toilets need to be redesigned so they don't use as much water every time they are flushed.

Instead of these tiny house units like self contained homes, we could build more intelligently to solve housing affordability. Trying to cram a kitchen and bathroom and living room and bedroom into a little space doesn't work on a broader scale. Pooping and cooking in a small space even with doors in between isn't pleasant. Instead we could build out really simple bedroom/private space units that share communal and shared bathroom and living space resources.

Anyone who really wants to minimize their echological footprint should be looking for an apartment near a public transit stop, not a tiny home in the woods or suburbs.

Sorry, disagree on the toilet aspect. You're comparing a tiny home to an urban dwelling, although you're in the country. You would probably not get away with a composting toilet in city limits. In the country, you don't have a sewer, you have a septic tank. That also leaches the waste out through the yard throughout the year, and fertilizes the ground. You're using more water, but it's water that comes from your own well, so you're just using electricity to pump. So few points for the tiny home on that one... 😜 However, nice work on the rest of the vid, good info.

You definitely have a good point, but only about 1/4 of North American homes have septic fields. The remainder are on a sewer and city water. So against the average home (average being the key word), tiny homes definitely get the point still 😁
