This is the best they have made to date considering the cost. 1 Inch Sensor and 5.4K Recording. They havent even touched that with anything new yet with a resonalble price.
I bought my Air 3 in February. I find it hard to believe that DJi would give up on the Air 3 after less than a year. But if it happens it happens. I’m happy with my Air 3.
a lot of their drones have had yearly refresh cycles, although the further up in price you go the less likely it is to be yearly but the air 3s/4 could easily be a yearly cycle even though the last one 2s to 3 was 2 years
We haven’t seen a listing by the FCC yet. Usually someone spots that before a new model is released. I am optimistic than a new Air model is in the works though.
Great wishlist! Speaking of swappable payloads, I don't know if it would be technically feasible to design a Mavic with interchangeable cameras with, say, a thermal camera as well. So instead of having to buy 1 Mavic 4 + 1 Mavic 4 Entreprise + 2 RC Pro 2, one kit with multiple camera options would make so much sense? Cheaper and less resource extensive.
Panasonic/Lumix has a new BSI dual gain conversion MFT sensor (Lumix GH7 and G9-II) that passes Sony APS-C sensor in dynamic range, readout speed and FPS. DJI could license it from Panasonic and now you have a Mavic 4 with 1.5 more stops of dynamic range and 120p 4k. There is your Mavic 4 right there. (Super35/APS-C sensor not needed,....this new MFT chip beats it.)
This may be more relevant to the Air 4 than the Mavic, but i really would like DJI to catch up with Skydio in tracking. As a solo motorcycle creator, this is really important to me. I still have the Air 2s because it can use Litchi and track via GPS. I really hope a better active track comes, but seems like no one really even wants it.

The threat of a DJI Ban is making me not want to feed into any of this but, I like everything that has been mentioned. I would also like built in industry standard bright anti collision lights not just a beacon on top but built in strobes on the back and a solid red and solid green (position) lights for night time flying. It’s not a dealbreaker to add the lights but would be cool to have them built in. I use the 7x lens more with my aerial photography than I do with video especially if I want to really compress the shot. I want to be able to set up a Waypoints flight mission from the RC Pro before the flight much like you can do with the Mavic 3 Pro instead of wasting a battery by adding your waypoints on location. Longer battery length would be great too.
I love how you caught me in 4k while driving. Got me. Now that I've watched the video I agree with a bigger sensor or the ability to swap lenses and have a really sharp telephoto lens.
How about a better obstacle avoidance, how about follow the remote when in active track, how about a update home point button, how about a minimum altitude setting and a setting for automatic recording at lift off
Still rocking my phantom 4 pro I bough it the same day of the release. Ill upgrade if they. 1- Lower the price of the flagship (remove expensive prores SSD upgrades) 2 - better dynamic range 3 - Agree for the no need of multiple cameras if they give a single better one with some kind of optical zoom or interchangeable lenses. Dream about a MFT sensor with 14+ stops of dynamic range 12 bit recording to a small NVME drive, internal compressed raw like the GH7
I love my Air 3. Ordered the day it came out and have around 40 flights on it, including one full speed crash into a tree it then tumbled into some sand. Hit hard enough to fold one of the rear arms in and scratch the heck out of my nd filter. Spent like 30mins shaking the sand out which eventually all came out put new props on, and she flew like it never happened! The other big thing is it never complains about wind like the mini 4 pro.
Hey Billy, Maxime from DroneXperts here. I have a few customers worried that the Air 3 will be replaced next fall. I told them I'd expect the Mavic to up first, because it's older and still running in o3. Think that would be a valid guess too?
We need larger camera sensors.. X7 sensor in the Mavic 4 Pro, MFT in the Air 4, 1” sensor in the Mavic Mini 4 .. that’s all I would want and the accompanying better codecs.. and I still want that “Matrice Ultra”.. a photo and video centric version on the Matrice 30 to bridge the gap between the inspire 3 and the Mavic Cinema.. also with a X7 super 35 sensor and strong resolution/ video features.. Maybe use Sony’s 26mp sensor that is used in the a6700 and Fuji Xt series
No, it's not "all that you would want" because 10 minutes after DJI gave you these things, you would cry and demand something else! It wasn't that long ago that EVERYONE was blown away with the 1" sensor in the Phantom 4, the Mavic 2 Pro, and then the Air 2s. Now you "need" it on the Mini drones. .

@johnsoncityaerialphotograp7201 True... but I've been around for a long time. I remember when the Parrot AR Drone was a "miracle of technology". Then the Phantom... Then the Mavic Pro/ GoPro Karma, ect, etc, etc. Every single time, there were people that world complain that it didn't *blank*. I mean, there used to be no such thing as GPS on drones. No return to home. Little to no telemetry. 5-10 minute flight times. Range measured in 10s or 100s of feet on a good day. No FPV view... I guess it's all about perspective.

@johnsoncityaerialphotograp7201 Yea, I can understand, but the reality is the sensor size dictates the camera module size, which dictates the gimbal size, which dictates the air frame... I'll never say impossible but we always have to remember that the sensor need to be kept cool. There's only so much that can be done... now anyway.
I would stay wit the three cameras. I really like and need the 166mm for the kind of shoot I do. That are times when I need to get really close to a subject without flying too close to the subject. I would like to see a large sensor on both the 70mm and 166mm. However, a 200mm would out of this world amazing. You could never get too close. More speed would be a plus as well. Trying to keep up with boats, cars and trains can sometimes be a real challenge. Thanks for sharing.
I tend to fly in the morning or at dusk when the lighting is best. If I could have one new feature it would be to have an integrated anti-collision beacon on the top of the drone and the ability to manually turn it on and off. (It'd be nice to also be able to turn the navigation/status lights on and off manually as well like you can with the landing light on the M4P.)
I'd love to have a parameter-editable option on waypoints and hyperlaspe saved tasks list. There are issues witht he mavic 3 rpo saved tasks when I play them the drone tesnds to div towards the ground.... Great Video with the call with the other guys, Billy... Nicely done🤟
The Air 3 is top notch and is almost a perfect drone. I would say update the controller similar to the M350 but that would probably be overkill. The software and speed is top notch on the RC Plus .Pretty cool that Billy has Greg on speed dial. Pilot Institute is the best!!!
Hey Billy you had the same idea as me with adding a small battery. I would love to see a small internal battery built in to the drone so you can hot swap external battery really quick without having to shut down the drone. I had this idea ever since I saw the big drones with dual batteries which makes it easier to hot swap the batteries. Thanks for all the knowledgeable videos you post. Your list for new features on the new drone and inputs from the other RU-vidrs are great ideas.
I think square sensors for cameras should be a thing, that way they can take the full advantage of the image circle. Give the sensor enough resolution to have a full vertical 4K 16:9, and then also full horizontal 4K 16x9, without the need to have a fourth axis on the gimbal. GoPro got close with the 8:7 or 7:8 sensor on the Hero 12.
I’d like to see a better solution for the usb c port flap thingy. I tend to forget to close it quite often, user error for sure but it could be designed away with magnets or something.
The Air 3 already has 5G if you remove the cover at the top of the drone and buy the 5g dangle 😊 This is what I need. 1. Mechanical shutter 2. Better protection for the gimbal. 3. The ability to have a swappable camera to allow 3rd Party camera's 4. Gatling gun style lens swaping system 5. Omnidirectional spring loaded legs, to reduce damages in a crash situation. 6.A Three position Payload switch on the controller to allow the development of a device to pick up and release things like roof tiles. This is really just for me at the moment 😊. 7. A miniature INSPIRE would be AWESOME ❤❤ then add a few of the above features. 8 Built in Luts or editable pre sets. 9. An combined collaboration between a drone company and Samsung to combine a small lightweight interchangeablelens lens camera system which is android based such as the Samsung NX range. The advantages. 1. Third party apps could be added A. An SDK would not always be required. B. The available features would be almost limitless. 2 Anti theft built in. I am sure you get the idea. There are a lot of possibilities not just for DJi but for any new drone manufacturer.😅
I am just about to buy the air 3 and this video comes up. I think I am still going to get the air 3 because it is already so good and still very new. Also I can’t wait any longer to upgrade my drone
1.) a barometer, i am flying comercially for sailing livestreams and the mavic 3 pro is so bad at keeping a consistant height above water making it a pain to keep clear of other drones at different heights! 2.) i don't need it faster, just better wind resistance making it "faster" against the wind 3.) longer battery life .. when there is a lot of wind, i get about 20 minutes flight time 4.) optical zoom for me aswell .. make a mavic 4 zoom with 1-3x or something like that 5.) small dual battery sounds cool in theory, but you sacrifice flight time because of this design! so for me: just faster boot up
Solution for vertical video: Add open gate to record full sensor. Then, the pilot can choose framing in post. Also, add full-size HDMI on RC Pro. Dual native ISO to close the gap to Inspire 3.
Billy, i like the idea of SDK and Mechanical Shutter. As to usbc on the battery, I see no problem as is; just by another charging module. Ive always wanted a beacon on the drones to meet the FAA standard.
I think the Mavic 4 will still have a 4/3 sensor (or maybe two of them). Even if it's the same resolution, it will be enough to implement a vertical mode by cropping the sensor, which will still give us 4K vertical video. Maybe they'll also hop on the open gate trend. My point is, there's a lot they can do with the Mavic 4, without any major technological revolutions.
I own/ owned the mini3 pro, mini4 pro, Mavic 2 pro, Mavic 3, and last the Mavic 3 Pro. It is a mistery that Mavic 2 Pro still has THE BEST video quality in terms of detail by far. It has the magical HQ mode which is FF equivalent 40mm focal length and gives the most "cinematic" picture ever. I have a long and detailed test on my YT channel. I am talking about DETAIL, not sharpness or resolution ( like: 5.1 K vs 4K ). My eyes were used to the fine lines of the M2P so much, that it was a shock when I tried the Mavic 3 at first ! And not in a good way ! I tried every channel I could find to get some explanation from DJI authorities, but no luck, at least not a convincing way. Is Mavic 3 a better drone ? Yes. More resolution, more dynamic range , functions, safety, no doubt. But Mavic 2 Pro still has so much better details and focal length, that I STILL carry every time with me along my new Mavic 3 Pro !! Which is a shame. So DJI, PLEASE bring back at least the 40mm HQ mode into the Mavic 3 ProS or MAvic 4, or whatever you'll name it !!!
Billy, what I would like to see on the Mavic four would be multiple hot swap batteries. This way, the battery swap time and flight takeoff time is almost instantaneous.
Hard to believe they would release a new Air model before a new Mavic when the Mavic is the oldest and lagging behind the Air in many areas. 15:19 This guy nailed it without hesitation. Having to stop recording to change focal length (lens) is a bit of a faff and 166mm lens is unnecessary. As I've said before something like a 50mm would've been more useful to bridge the gap between the 24mm and 70mm but optical zoom is really a much better way to go for the Mavic. It would give the Mavic a much needed USP to really justify the higher price and its place at the top of the range. Then for the Air 3 Pro or Air 4 whatever it's going to be, if they just give that the 1 inch sensor from the Air 2S, I'll be interested in upgrading. I briefly had an Air 2S before getting an Air 3 and while I was blown away by the image quality of the Air 2S I wasn't happy with the flight time and I found the lack of side sensors more of an issue than I imagined. So I sold it and got an Air 3 and have never been totally happy with the image quality of the 24mm lens, where the Air 2S was hard to pick fault with and was pin sharp the Air 3's equivalent lens image looks a stage down in resolution or just overly compressed and not as naturally sharp.
Excellent video Billy, and thanks for including me. Hearing the rest of the creators and their wishlist - I definitely agree with native vertical video and a larger camera such as APSC. Thinking back on my answer, USB-C on the battery I would also add to my list: Dual screen smart RC so I can proactively see my maps and/or side cameras; and I would like to see DJI software loaded to a smartwatch especially for active track.

Make those RC Pro controllers more future proof to be able to upgrade transmission system or handle multiple transmission systems if possible..they are very expensive to have to be tied up to only one type of transmission system.
The list is great! I would say the new controller should be better suited for vertical shooting, like how the screen flips on the Osmo Pocket 3. Also, with the camera, I would add built-in ND filters. Finally, some sort of IP rating and way to lockout some axis on the gimbal to then go FPV style down a waterfall for example.
Air 2 came out then the A2S a year later so an a4 coming out soon because the a3 was released about a year ago sounds likely. The Air series had new units come out more often than the Mavic series
I want to start seeing some mechanical zoom lenses on these things rather than digital or three different cameras for three different fields of view. And after flying the mini 4 pro for a while with the 1.7 aperture every drone needs to have at least that or lower for better low light capabilities. We are in a time now when we don’t need tosee any grain in night shots.
A true Micro 4:3 sensor is probably more realistic than APS-C, as DJi has utilized them in the past and they have a relationship with Panasonic. Would personally love to see Vertical mode too!
I like the Air 3 and Mavic 3 platforms but unless they release the SDK for the Air 4, I'm sticking with my Air 2s. It has been reliable other than when DJI locks me out needing an Internet connection to log in. (4 times)
The Mavic 3 Pro, etc with OS 3 has made it a lot less desireable to fly. I have the Air 3 and Mini 4 pro, and love the extra reliable distance. Thoughts?
If you're flying illegally then yes...I like using my m3p with my rc pro as having the ability to use 3rd party apps is priceless..I only use the air 3 when it is either too windy or I am flying slightly out of line of sight when I am far from the object I want to capture
Mavic 4 will probably be a minor upgrade with maybe some different colour profiles for the cameras (so they all match up better) and O4 image transmission
VERTICAL VIDEO needs to be on the Mavic 4. Been wanting this for years. Glad Ken agrees. And yeah Billy I also hate shooting vertical but it beats cropping vertical from a horizontal shot.
the new model comes out mainly reply on the new sensor. in 2024, we have new sony lyt900 and lyt600 sensor which already used in mobile phone. but compare to the old sensor, it has not upgrade a lot. so for the new model, it must go larger sensor. apsc for mavic series is a must.
I think a good upgrade would be upgraded camera system, 1x, 3x, and 5x, all 1 inch sensors with variable aperatures and swappable while filming, new transmission system, better battery life, and an interchangeable camera module. Oh, and 128gb internal storage, 64gb MINIMUM. I feel like the biggest upgrade would be swappable camera modules. Right now, range is limited by battery. A new transmission system is giving diminishing returns, and with current battery tech, same goes for flight time. The biggest changes would be with cameras. If you could get the 4, and just keep upgrading cameras, and higher capacity extended batteries, that would be awesome. There's really no NEED for whole new airfrsmes,

Looking to upgrade from my Skydio, but DJI seems like an annoying company to buy from. You gotta buy the minute it’s released or you feel like your purchase will be obsolete in a matter of months.
Okay, since I didn't get a call... Game on!!! 1. Dual Micro SD Card Slots- Unnecessary as virtually no one wants to store large amounts of footage on the drone where it could all be lost in a crash. 128G is pushing your luck in my opinion. As far as "backup" goes, I can't tell you when I last had a "corrupted" file from a DJI drone. 2. More Than 8G Of Flash Storage- I can get on board with this. I'd suggest 64-128G for the same reason as #1. I'd want super fast storage so the transfer speeds would be viable. BTW This negates the need of dual sd cards if you could record to both simultaneously. 3. Faster- I'm also onboard with this idea. There's no reason the drone couldn't do 60 MPH in Sport Mode and with the better Obstacle Avoidance (that none of the dorks you called mentioned), we could see 40+ MPH in Normal Mode. 4. Better Gimbal Range- Also onboard with this idea. Basically, they'd just continue down the path they've blazed with the Mini 4 Pro. However, all this talk of a larger sensor or optical zoom will kill this notion to an extent. 5. Vertical Shooting- Meh. 6. USB C Ports On The Batteries- That's what the charging hubs are for. Trying to charge a battery of that size with car charger or a phone charger... I hope you have a few hours to spare. Especially if you're trying to charge several batteries at once. Purchase a 2nd charging hub and keep it in your drone bag/ case/ bucket. "Problem" solved. I mean you all begged for years to be able to charge batteries in the drone and now... Yeesh. 7. Optical Zoom- Should have been NUMBER ONE!!!! Try to get 5x but would settle for 3. Screw the multiple camera crap! 8. Bigger Sensor (APSC)- Sure... Except it would all but KILL all your other camera wishes and/ or make the drone WAY larger. I'd be happy with 4/3rds and optical zoom myself but sure, dream big. 9. Higher Resolution- No. The more megapixels you cram onto a sensor, the smaller they must be. You could get 6k from the existing sensor with better processing. If you want to maintain the current low light video quality, larger pixels are where it's at. 10. Mechanical Shutter- Unnecessary except for mapping. Probably wouldn't be used while shooting video anyway. Will just add extra complications with little benefit for the average hobbyist. 11. User Swappable Payloads- Not a "bad" idea but can add failure points. Typically, the cost is so high, you may as well buy a second drone if you need a backup. 12. Integrated LED Beacon- Fair enough. Maybe even one on top and bottom or just make the existing LED's on the arms and bottom brighter and flash on command. 13. 5G- Not gonna happen. As of this point DJI will be lucky to just get FCC clearance for a standard drone much less 5G. "Hi, US gov't? DJI here. You know how you're afraid our drones spy on you and you want pilots to keep them in line of sight? Well, we'd like to make them have unlimited range." !!!CLICK!!!! "Hello? Hello?" 14. Small Dual Battery Design- Dual batteries could be done but we must remember that regardless of how much people want to call this line a "Prosumer Drone", it is designed and sold as a consumer product. "Hot Swapping" just isn't that big of a deal. However, if you want it, a small battery built into the drone that can keep it powered on while swapping batteries would work. Simple. Easy. 15. SDK- Meh... The Enterprise drones have SDK kits... The necessity to develop them for consumer drones is far less critical and gains DJI very little if anything. 16. Remote Controller- UM... They already have an upgraded RC Pro. Just make the RC Pro+ compatible or make a "light" version of it. 7" higher resolution screen, 1200 nits, faster/ better processor, swappable batteries, water resistant, better antennas, etc. Oh and what your group of experts missed was, Better Obstacle Avoidance and a Better Processor- these two things would lead to better Active Track, clearer Vision Assist and the possibility of a faster drone with Obstacle Avoidance. Oh and as a side benefit, 6K. Yea, bet you wish you called me now!!!!
i think this rumor came out months ago but i read it 2 weeks ago i think the air 4 will come out first this summer the air 4 SHOULD have variable aperture !
I would love the mavic 4 to have dual sensors 4/3 24mm and 1 in 50mm with rotatable camera to get native 5k. Maybe even built-in nd filters so we dont have to fly back to change filters. Oh and a usb-c ssd like from the I3...like a baby I3
Can someone please help me understand the significance of dual micro sd/SD card slots? I have been working with full frame cameras since 2007 and with drones since 2014 and never ever have I encountered an issue with memory card corruption. Why is this feature so highly over rated when in reality the issues with high quality memory cards seem to be very rare to non existent for some? And I hear left and right that the so called “professionals” love dual SD card slots, but why?

What I would like to see on the Magic 4: 1. filming with the Mac 3 Pro in Vineyards, and over Sea on boats, I do like the optical zoom to be even capable of going up to 120 or even 200 mm to get real close-ups. 2. Image Quality full frame/8K would be good too as it fits better with the footage we create on the ground. 3. maybe put in a feature to ply with the range of the obstacle avoidance. Example: if I fly in between the vines, the obstacle avoidance is blocking this. Also flying into small canyons, I have to put it off with all the risks of crashing. If I could decrease the range from let's say 1,5m to 50cm all around the drone that would be great. It would have to be more sensitive too, so it recognizes even the smallest branches. 4. To catch the drone upon landing, I have to switch off the obstacle avoidance. Maybe there is a solutions to work around there too? 5. make the gimbal Able to capture full 360 panoramas, and create them automatically in both full resolution and social media size upon recording. 6. As many have said before: real vertical mode. 7. Speed (for following speed boats for example) should be at least 90 km/h 8. keep improving the follow modes in all directions as it is still far from perfect. There are other drones out there doing this way better like skydio for example. 9. improve the Mastershots function for big buildings or even small villages (Amalfi Coast). It would help if we can select bigger areas which will be held centered, rather than just one small point of interest. 10. Last but not least: Mechanical shutter or the ability to choose between mechanical and electronic shutter as in most DSLR's is possible. That's it 😁 Love your channel by the way!

1. Object avoidance! Real super duper avoidance, not the kind of handy one we have today. They need to put much more work into that. 2. A Find My Drone for when the drone is lost. Like Apple's system for finding your phone or watch. Pinpoint accuracy. DJI have a great fix and replacement service but not much good if you lose your drone.

Very interesting to hear this different wishes. I’m not sure if they somehow reached the end of improving the camera because of weight. At least here in Europe it would be very nice to keep it under 900g. The same with speed. They are legally bound to cut the speed and a change like that is worthless for European flyers. I’m very surprised to hear here the true vertical schooting. This because a automatic crop should in my eyes cover the resolution using with mobile phones/Tablets. I would guess a Mavic 4 next.
I think this is my second time watching this and I think I’m gonna leave a comment that was going to mimic what I had already written. Now that I’m rethinking it. I want two cameras… Both full frame, with the second camera having an optical zoom of up to at least X5. I shoot a lot of my stills with long lenses and wide-open apertures. I’d love to get that out of a drone.
I believe the drone industry should be at the forefront of new battery tech, they should be experimenting with graphene as the same weight and size have 5 times more capacity than a Lithium battery plus the ability to charge 3 times faster than Lithium.
Went from Air 2s to Air 3 and it’s a massive difference! Next purchase will be the Matrice 30t unless our corrupt government bans DJI drones so I’m waiting g to see what happens before I purchase anything!
I said the same thing after I bought My mini 3 pro. And then the Mini 4 pro (Mini 3 pro plus) came out. It happens, but as consumers, we should try to embrace it. I know it's hard because these things aren't cheap and we always want the best of the best, especially after spending a pretty penny. But realistically, I bet DJI already has the next 3 generations of each of their drones mapped out. China plays the long game and thier consumer electronics are no different.
