A very impromptu video that I made regarding the recent hot topic of whether or not Kiwami 3 would is needed. I feel like there's more that I want to say that I haven't said because I wanted to get the video out while the topic was still being talked about but also I'm currently working on another video and I don't know if I want to put that one on hold. I might come back later and talk more about Kiwami 3 and the topic of Kiwamis in general.

I apologize for the video not having epic editing everywhere but this is one that I wanted to upload while the topic was still being talked about since that would be the best time. In my opinion Y3 is the most important entry in the franchise. Its when the series shifted from being about more standard Yakuza stories to delving deeper into kiryu as a character, exploring different themes, and also just experimenting more with what they could do with their stories. I know people complain about the orphanage stuff at the start, but the orphanage is pretty much kiryu's primary motivation and reason for being for the rest of the series. The game needed to take its time and allow the player to see through all these small moments how dedicated kiryu was to his new life and the orphanage. While I think a kiwami game could be interesting in regards to switching up the gameplay and having new graphics (personally, I love the way okinawa looks in Y3), I'm more worried about them adding stuff to the game that would take away from the tone and ideas the game was trying to deal with. Y3 has an interesting and necessary spot as a bridge between what can be seen as "old" and "modern" yakuza, and a kiwami game could tip the scales too hard in certain directions

I love 3 but I really don't think it's true that it was a shift from standard Yakuza stories to delving into Kiryu. Yakuza 1's story especially is incredibly laser-focused on exploring it's main character's psyche. As much as I like it it's a very flawed story so I really don't blame anyone for spacing out and just seeing the surface level Yakuza conflict but what the game really is all about is a person who puts no value in his own life and happiness if it means he can help his loved ones, and how this complete self-sacrificial nature can turn back around to hurt the ones you love. Kiryu's act of sacrifice ultimately lead the people in his life to feel lost and alone in his absence, and in Nishiki's case, to a feeling of strong inadequacy that it wasn't HIM who could stand up and take the blame, how he will always live in his brother's shadow, and frustration that Kiryu, in a way, abandoned him, which in the 10 lonely, lost and confused years of his absence festered into resentment. Kiryu valued himself so little that he failed to see the immense value he had to others, and how, by sacrificing himself for them, he in fact ripped apart from them the thing that mattered the most. This overarching theme is what makes me love the story in spite of the fact that it's admittedly kinda bad, because it's such an interesting idea that I've not really seen any other stories dedicate themselves to. Yakuza 2 is much more of a Yakuza story with it's intricate power struggles and more action-packed storyline but it still dedicates a lot of time to Kiryu's character. His romance with Sayama is after all one of the most important parts of the story. If anything I think it's after 3 that Kiryu's characterisation started to become a bit shakier. Not in 3 specifically, but the games that came after it. Not all of them, but he does feel flanderized in a good number of them and most frustratingly the lesson he learned in 1 that I described in the first paragraph got ignored and again and again which is what soils me a lot on the story of 5 and 6 even though they both have a lot of good elements. edit: The line from Yakuza 0 that he says to Nishiki in the forest, something like: 'We're still just kids, making trouble for Kazama and thinking that we can make everything better by dying' describes his character really well. It's one of his most important traits and flaws, and although of course it comes up again and again in the games, it's 1 specifically that goes into it the most.

I appreciate Yakuza 3's story, but the gameplay was a little rough to get through for me. I played the games in this order: Yakuza 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3. The much more limited combos and the enemies blocking almost everything made the fights way less fun than previous games. I'd love to see a Yakuza Kiwami 3 that brings the game up to modern standards.

Some of my friends who have played through the series, rushed through 3 due to how much it showed its age. Which is a shame since I like the slice of life aspect of the game and Kiryu interacting with the orphans who are such an integral part of his life. A remake of 3 could have more interest for a huge portion of the fans who didn’t care much for it before

I think we don't need a Kiwami 4 onwards, but i would love a Kiwami 3, as the original is still one of my favourite of the franchise despite its flaws. Seeing Okinawa again with better graphics, the quality of life features like completely skippable cutscenes that comes with the new games, a brand new combat system (like Gaiden with new options as you said). Yakuza 3 was a huge step forward for the series if we look back at how the first 2 Yakuza games looked and played, but nobody nowadays can really get that since we now play the remake of 2 first, which came out in 2018, and then go back to a game made in 2009

@JosephJoeseph
@JosephJoeseph 16 дней назад
@@carcinoGetenicist True, but both Kiwami and Kiwami 2 have flaws that could have easily been ironed out with time. 0 is the most polished of the 3 but even then, something like the gear system is something they likely would have scrapped if they had a bit more time to playtest, or they would have realised that playing Kiryu with the Quick-Change-Clothes is so much more fun than without it and allows for so much more interesting tech and skillful gameplay that they either would just have made it the default or at least would have given it to Majima too, while maybe fixing the completely skewed balance his fighting styles have. Of course this was at a time when Yakuza just started gaining western popularity, the little faults of older RGG games are easily forgiven because they did not have the budget, but as things are now, with Yakuza finally getting worldwide appreciation I really wish they spent the resources they now have more wisely. I haven't played the 3 most recent titles (Gaiden, Ishin remake, Infinite Wealth) yet so of course I won't comment on them but for instance in Lost Judgment it felt like the game was super bloated with a massive amount of side content, a lot of which just overstayed it's welcome. If the game had half the amount of school stories with twice the quality I would have loved it way more than I do now. And if the quantity of side content wasn't so overkill so much more focus could go into pushing the main story's presentation to the next level. Not that it's bad, necessarily, but once again Lost Judgment specifically seemed to especially suffer from the common LAD problem of having way too much expository dialogue, and with more resources allocated to the story, the amount of dialogue could be cut down with a bit more smart writing, and what remained could get more interesting direction, and more fully animated cutscenes instead of the dry press x to skip shot reverse shot delivery. Or ishin could have been more than a port to unreal engine with gameplay changes that people who played both the original and the remake seem to almost universally dislike. I again won't comment on Gaiden since I haven't played it but people always talk about it being developed in 6 months positively, like oh, this is so cool and impressive and sure, it's very impressive but it's also completely psychotic. I don't know how good Gaiden is but I can guarantee it would be way better if it was given anywhere near a reasonable amount of development time. Yes, they can do both, but they could make much better games if they didn't.

I think one thing that isn't mentioned regarding the Remake/Kiwami games is that they offer an opportunity to refine some of the new blood. RGG's just put out their fastest-selling game ever with Infinite Wealth, yeah? Which means, most likely, they're going to expand and hire at least some new staff. A remake like Kiwami 3 is a great sort of "training ground" for the new blood to get used to doing stuff in dragon engine, while not having to deal with a brand new mainline game out of nowhere, but instead building on a sturdy frame that's already there. For those who don't know, Atlus does something similar. Hashino's ran P-Studio from 2006-2016, and saw Persona 3-5 out, but 5 Royal was handled by a different team as Hashino went on to begin work on Metaphor. Some of the team that took it over were new blood in the company getting their feet wet adding new content to an existing game. In both cases, the developer has a bespoke, internal engine (Atlus used the Catherine engine for P5-P5R, and apparently for Metaphor, while RGG has the ever-refined Dragon Engine), so there's some amount of training required for every new hire when it comes to working with the internal systems (as opposed to just hiring people who can already work in Unreal or whatever third-party engine the company uses).

My issue with the 3 Kiwami remakes we have now is that they felt very derivative of the game the engine is originally used for (K1 - 0 and K2 - 6), as well as some changes and concessions made, sometimes for the worse (K1 looking like flatter 0 and generally a bit worse than OG1 in terms of ambiance and in some cases animations because old anim rigs doesn't transfer well to new models, K2 with green filter, changed music, removed area, worse combat because early DE woes, Ishin with forced card combat and gimped standard combat as a result). That said, now that Lost Judgment and Gaiden exist I can at least hope that if K3 is indeed in the making currently, that we have a taste of improved combat from those 2 games. That, and I hope there are as little changes as possible for everything else. I understand music licenses expiring and the like, sometimes not everything can make it and on PC it'll all be brought back by mods, that's an ok concession to me. Just hope that now they're getting used to DE and proved with LJ and Gaiden that they could make great combat in DE, that K3 will be in a much better state than 3 other Kiwamis we already have.

I love the charm of the original Yakuza 3. I do think that all the games will be ported to the dragon engine, and I see it as RGG taking more of a leisurely approach than to make a new game every year or two. Realistically speaking, how much can the series go on, we are already on it's 9th game, so pumping out a new game every time will more likely ruin the series. What I expect is a continuation of Judgement or a new IP, otherwise, making a new yakuza game this early doesn't really make sense now. So, in conclusion, we don't need Kiwami 3, but I think making it helps the studio plan and coordinate their future.

My issue with the whole debate is why waste time and resources on another remake when they could be put into something else? Like if they make a Kiwami 3, that's less time and resources going into LAD 9, Judgment 3, or something even more experimental like FOTNS: Lost Paradise or LAD 7. Plus, if they remade 3, then everyone would ask for remakes of Yakuza Kiwami 1 because of the annoying mechanics in that game, and the cycle starts all over.

Personally I don’t think we necessarily _need_ Kiwami 3, I think Y3 Remastered just needs tweaking to make it not annoying. And I’m not just talking about the blocking, it’s stuff like enemies spinning around before you can finish a Rush Combo, or how Kiryu never walks straight (unless you’re playing on Xbox One, apparently). Admittedly I’ve never played original Yakuza 3 on PS3 (aside from trying the demo waaaaay back in the day, but I digress), but I’ve also heard that Y3 Remastered has issues that weren’t there in the original version, namely due to the 60 FPS increase. What we _really_ need is Dead Souls Remastered. Either that or make it stop crashing on RPCS3 😭

While I personally don’t think a Kiwami 3 is at all necessary, two things I’d like to see are the 4 K1 styles returning in DE (since I’d really rather not have another game with K2/Y6 Kiryu) and for them to remix Hear This In The Game for Amon instead of another Fiercest Warrior

Especially after Gaiden, I think the Morning Glory storyline is a very valuable part of Kiryu’s character, and I’d love to see it retold in a more accessible way for newcomers. TL;DR: Yes (I'm still watching an ad I haven't seen the video yet) Update: RE4 Remake was insanely good, coming from a guy who loves the original and has replayed it on multiple devices various times. I think too much offense is taken when a game is remade. RE2, in my opinion, did need a remake; I think it's very hard to get into for myself and a lot of the younger RE audience (Young sounds dumb but when I first played an RE game it was when 2 came out in 2019 and I was 13.) A remake like 4, however, doesn't erase the original. We can still play and appreciate the original. When a Kiwami 3 comes out, eventually, I'll be able to enjoy it and the original. There's merit in wanting to boot up the original RE4 and experience a classic, and I still do, and people will do the same with Yakuza 3. Sometimes, when a game hasn't aged well enough, that doesn't mean it's bad, but just not as approachable for the general audience, so it's worth remaking. Additionally, Yakuza 3 has so much content, and some of it has unrealized potential, which isn't bad, but this is another opportunity to improve the experience and add to it! And hell, if it's bad, at least in the end we can rest assured that there'll be some shoed-in Majima side content for us to enjoy. ALSO, RGG is creative, but those juices will stumble every once in a while! If you REALLY love Yakuza 3, wouldn't you rather have another story you love and can trust you'll enjoy to a degree than a new stylistic choice or gameplay design philosophy or new set of characters that might not resonate with you? :D

In my humble opinion, I think Kiwami 3 is necessary.. the change from K2 to yakuza 3 is huge, and a lot of people stop playing this game because of that. Haven't actually watched yet, but i just wanna say, franky the only reason i can see against a Kiwami 3 is just that it would likely mean we have to wait longer for whatever game would come out after it. But with how RGG seems to progressively make almost every game better than the ones before, i think an extra remake would just result in even better things for the next title.
@Alex-ju3xr

I think it entirely depends on what's done to it. If they expanded and added a lot of content to the game, for example if they added a big main side content thing like a thing at the orphanage which a cross between Dondoko Island and Another Life from Ishin or helping the kids out with various new things which was like School Stories from LJ, then hell yeah sign me up for K3. But if it was gonna just be keep it as it is with nicer graphics and less mid gameplay then I'll pass because those things don't bother me too much anyway. However if they turned Y3's dogshit cabaret club into the 0/K2 cabaret club it's a day 1 buy, they should add that and make it a 40 hour long grind which I'll play until all I can hear is LADIES GLASS

my reason for wanting a Kiwami 3 is because i love Yakuza 3 for the story and what it represents. A remake could take the storytelling of the original to the next level while also making the gameplay smoother and more enjoyable. Of course the vibe of the original Okinawa will never be replicated, but i look at Kiwamis more as a tribute to the original than a replacement of “old garbage”, so to speak. The fact that people want a kiwami 3 means that they want to play it, not that they hate it, and i think some people overlook that possibility. On another note, making a Kiwami 3 will prevent new people from giving up on the series. Many drop Yakuza 3 because they can’t ignore the outdated aspect of it, you have to be really committed to the franchise in order to love it, otherwise the casual gamer will go away and that means less money for RGG to make more games. Sure more players/money doesn’t mean better games, but at least Yakuza would start getting the recognition it deserves in the west

I don't think I'd mind it since we got modern ports of 3 unlike the original 2 games... If we do get a Kiwami 3 I'd want it to be the impossible ideal version of the game. Where the orphanage stuff is treated like a big sidequest with major rewards for doing it ala 0/5's side stories and making use of what they learned from Honolulu. Maybe even a kind of "Majima Saga" style bonus mode where we can finally play as Daigo and have it flesh out him an Mine's relationship more. As it stands though a lot of the Kiwami's felt like 'sidegrades' compared to their contemporaries, but that's okay when the original is so easily accessible.

While full Kiwamis of the PS3 trilogy would be a luxury, it's really only 3 that gets the most push. The reason I think people don't go anywhere near as hard for the next logical step, a Kiwami 4, beyond the obvious "Well they haven't even done 3 yet" is that... there's 4 playable characters. First title in the series where Kiryu isn't the sole person whose singular legacy fighting style you're rocking with for the entire experience. While a Kiwami 3 would still make 4 the most unpolished and dated by default, the transition between a Dragon Engine Kiryu to Akiyama wouldn't feel as directly contrasting as Dragon Engine Kiryu to Fresh-Off-the-PS2-Era PS3 Kiryu. But also what do I know, I also think just barely enough time has passed that Yakuza 0 of all entries should get a little bit of a face-lift. The amount of time between 0's release to now is approaching the same amount of time passed between 1 and Kiwami's release.
@Derachi
@Derachi 13 дней назад
The thing about a remake like a potential Kiwami 3 is that it doesn't take up nearly the same amount of development resources to make as a brand new game. With a lot of the pre-production steps already done, like writing, map design, etc, it's mostly a lot of actual production gruntwork. Remaking models, textures, characters, animations, etc. So a Kiwami 3 would be a relatively simple project to put the RGG art production team on while the pre-pro team is writing/designing LaD9/Judgment 3. It's not a "Kiwami 3 OR LaD9/Judgment 3" decision. It's "let's put these teams on this other easier project because the next new game isn't ready yet."

About the Dragon/Unreal Engine concerns, RGG has previously said they wanted to get some experience with UE to improve DE (specifically the lighting/daytime graphics), so unless they want to do that again which is highly unlikely as there's very little reason to do so, all the games should be DE. Plus if I recall correctly, they outright stated they'd continue using DE for their games. I'd happily welcome Kiwami 3, but my pants would all turn white if Judgment 3 is announced in a few weeks.

With the current state of kiryu in the newer games I think the only way to justify a game like that is through a kiwami. No hate on the original it's still easily accessible (I got the platinum trophy for the remaster.) my only worry is that they will try to shorten the beginning chapters cause ppl complain that they're "slow" or "boring" when it actually has some kiryu's best character moments with the kids.

If we gonna ask for Kiwami 3,will we also need for 4 and 5 also to be remake ? I understand and accept the flaws of old Yakuza games because at the time that's fine. Compare to technology nowadays pf course it'll feel worse because we already played with better engines. Old fans want Kiwami 3 probably for nostalgia. I can also argue for new incoming fans trying to catch up with Yakuza series,will have things more comfortable if the old game are remake. I can see 4 maybe getting Kiwami but 5 just to burdensome. That game playtime might be second only to infinite wealth. Remaking 5 will be huge task and resources that I rather uses for the next installment. Like A Dragon and Judgement are having good reception from old and new fans. I think it's more beneficial to use this momentum forward than "fixing" the past.

See, the thing is that just because it has faults doesn't mean it can't be improved. I was introduced into the series late and played 0 through 7 straight. I got burnt out at first, but then I bought them on Steam and went through them more in depth and appreciated them way more. Then I got all the achievements in every game that's available on PC so far. And for whatever reason I adore Yakuza 3. Now obviously Yakuza 3 has major flaws, and some things probably can't be fixed cause it's engraved in the story. But that doesn't mean it can't be improved. Nothing stops them from tweaking the story slightly for those cumbersome parts and more. But honestly at this point I would love a Kiwami 3 for the sole purpose of being to experience Y3 again for the first time. In a new engine, re-told, with maybe some more content. Who knows they could make it really good. Yakuza is just Yakuza, whether it's a new game or a remake I'll always love it. As long as it's good and fun that's all that matters in the end

Personally, Yakuza 3 (even 4 personally) has so many flaws that make the experience such a stressful thing, like its not the worst thing i ever done but if you jump in blindly you're not gonna have fun time until you figure out how to play the game in a way for it to not feel unfair to you, story wise i think its fine so the only thing they could change would be adding new things. Like literally all they need to do is make the enemy AI better or have less frustrating mechanics and that's it we have a good game. To add to that, there's bosses (like Mine himself) that are just straight up fun to fight rather than feeling annoying like everything else in the game, hell even Richardson feels fine to fight AND HE'S A GUN BOSS
