Thanks for the Topic well covered. This has been bothering me for a long time as to why we require songs which doesn't even relate to the scene. An example from the brilliant movie Ayan, After Chitti passes away Deva consoles Yamuna and suddenly, they go to Nenje nenje song which they dance in a desert. Good song though. This is an unwanted song irrelevant to the current situation.

Bro, this is our Indian style, we are habituated with this formula. But in recent times cinema making and script writing is being changing, you're right, if content is strong, no need of songs. But those type of movies get good reach in Ott platforms, theater mood is different. Going to theater, being in queue for tickets, buying snacks in interval, just for entertainment.
