When you ask personal questions of someone whos current and potential future career is based 100% on Law and specifically requires applying that law appropriately regardless of ones own personal views and you get the proper response "my personal views, beliefs, or opinions have no baring on my judicial judgement". Its a very political, but proper answer to the question(s) Ted was asking. I'd say that asking those types of questions in the first place was a waste of time. I'd do what the other guy did and look at her past work and judicial history. That's way more telling than asking questions of someone who is professionally obligated to not discuss their personal opinions or beliefs on such things. P.S. I didn't know who this woman was until I stumbled on this YT clip.

Amy Coney Barrett did exactly the same thing, as do most justices seeking appointment. The job of an independent judiciary is to separate their legal decisions from their personal opinions as best as possible, and Sen. Cruz is absolutely attempting to undermine her credibility by asking her for her personal views on the issue, rather than how she would rule in such cases.

I'm not certain, but I'm willing to guess that within fairly recent history these judicial nominees answered questions like these. We are a republic, a government of and by the people. I strongly believe that means we should get to know exactly where a person is given a lifetime appointment stands!! I have watched in the last decade, or so, many of these judges making rulings from the bench that are considered activist rulings and unconstitutional. So, whether you agree or not, I believe it is imperative that these questions are asked, even if they aren't answered, so that maybe someday we can go back and point at one of them and answer a comment like, "we sure didn't expect that particular ruling from this judge!"
