@@allistergraham6704 you keep on adding water to drink. customarily you drink until the flavor starts going then your either finished or your making another cup .
From my experience of drinking mate, I’ve never drank a leaf, the straws are really well made and filter it out really well, the only time you’ll have leaves is if your straw is really bad
@@urunceeeasifski1351 lol that wasn’t a joke but the point is no matter how tight you roll you always get some bud in your mouth I’m sure some of the powder gets in the straw
It depends on your straw. Most of them won't let any leaves pass through, however there are some uncommon ones that have horizontal slits for the filter which can allow some leaves to pass through every now and then.
I had a Uruguayan Spanish teacher bring this in for our class to try in middle school, we each tried it multiple times to get past the bitterness/taste but by the end of the class most of us were a a big fan! I loved it!
@@chip4039 Most likely! in many countries of South America we can't start our day without it. It's just like that phrase "don't talk to me until i drink my coffee" or "first coffee" but with mate.
It's bitter, not more than coffee. Every brand has their own taste and grades of intensity (Suave presentation is the softest). It also comes in presentations with other herbs and medical purposes. There r version w artificial flavoring too. Organic ones r safe. It mainly divides public choice tween "yerba con palo" or "despalada" (with or without 'sticks' - stems/petioles - : the "yerba con palo" provides a bitter taste while the "despalada" version w only leaves has more powdered leaf which provides long lasting flavor, espumita -foam/froth - like some coffee gets but its con is possible heartburn) Give them a try! I sometimes add chamomile or calendula flowers for calming the mattheine effect, stevia or a little spoon of natural honey for sweetness.
I am SO happy to see mate being appreciated around the world. I hope people get more curious about argentinian culture! VAMOS MUCHACHOS AGUANTE ARGENTINAA🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷⭐⭐⭐
@@thelunatics6598 noo not at all lmao it's actually the opposite, it has a chemical called mateina which is a form of caffeine,it actually wakes you up
@@fantacer i think the diference is that the yerba mate is almost dust , btw here in Argentina we use the yerba a bit lesser grinded and its called mate
It is so weird for me to find an account entirely about Yerba mate, don't get me wrong... It's cool! Tereré and mate are just the best beverages out there. Greetings from Paraguay! 💖🙏
We evaluated the hepatoprotective effect of mate tea treatment in mice submitted to an HFD. C57BL/6 mice were fed an HFD for 13 weeks with and without mate tea. A separate group of mice was treated with fenofibrate as a positive control (a regular drug for lipid disorders). Histological analyses, glucose tolerance tests (GTT), and quantification of mediators related to lipid peroxidation, oxidative stress and blood biomarkers for lipid profile were performed. The weight of animals and major organs related to hepatic steatosis was determined, and proinflammatory cytokines and the participation of the Nrf2 pathway and adiponectin were evaluated. Mate tea prevented the accumulation of lipid droplets in hepatocytes as well as weight gain in animals submitted to the HFD. Mate tea treatment also prevented increases in the liver weight, heart weight and amount of visceral and subcutaneous white adipose tissue. Mate tea was able to prevent the deregulation of glucose uptake, as evaluated by GTT, and improved the indicators of oxidative stress, such as nitrite levels, catalase activity, and oxidative damage, as evaluated by protein carbonylation and the MDA levels. Mate tea had an anti-inflammatory effect, preventing the increase of IL-1β and KC and upregulating the expression of Nrf2. Mate tea prevented insulin increase and HDL cholesterol decrease but did not affect total cholesterol or triglycerides levels. Treatment also prevented adiponectin increase. Mate tea may be a good resource to reduce hepatic steatosis in the future since it has anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which prevent the accumulation of fat in the liver.
My spanish teacher was from Uruguay and he brought this drink. It’s kind of bitter but a popular tea in the country. The straw doesn’t bring any leaves or bits in. He let us all try
The only thing you need to remember while drinking yerba is: wait a minute or more so that the water is not boiling (it could get too bitter) and then wait until the leaves absorb some of it. You can put any quantity of yerba you want, you can do whatever you want with a straw. It doesnt matter anymore after it's humid. Don't follow any foolish instructions
I drink Yerba Mate and there's a filter you can buy which is by the way, very cheap and lasts a long time. It completely blocks out all residue, totally worth it.
@@igorseagull9324 it's got a similar shape but usually made out of metal or wood, I don't think anyone drinks it from a glass just worse in general. This one was made so you could see how it looks as you can usually only see the top
I'm from Rio grande do Sul in Brazil This drink as know as "chimarrão" is really famous here The best way of drinking it is with family, friends and loved ones Just take one cup , it's better if you use a cuia (Sorry I don't know the name in English) and you all drink in the same, the one that is drinking have to fill it again and pass to the next Be sure to make a good amount so the conversation keep going for a long time and you will always remember this good times Chimarrão isn't about the drink but drinking it with loved ones
Chimarrão é diferente do mate tradicional do Uruguai e da Argentina. Leva mais erva, que por sinal é bem mais fina (quase pó) que a usada no mate, e a cuia é muito maior.
Hello... I am in the US and own a mate cup. I find mate rather "involving," a pretty strong drink overall. Q: What percentage of drinkers of mate sweeten their drink?
Hi! I don't like bitter mate, it leaves a weird sensation in the tongue (like paste or something) besides the feeling of something burning in the stomach. Lemme say I'm argentinian and I'm not use to drink bitter mate so I add some sugar before pouring water.
If the yerba is Bad or the straw Isn't very good you could drink a little powder in the first sip but that is why he shakes it, so the powder get stuck in your hands
In Brazil, specificaly Goiás and Mato Grosso, is a very hot place, so we drink it with ice cubes and cold water. With a bit of taste added like lemon or mint.
How does it taste? Kind of want to try it but I would need to buy a kilo so Im afraid it wont taste good. What is it compared to? Similar to black coffee ?
is it good for numerous refills? if it's just tasty for one glass it seems wasteful...unless it's dirt cheap, or do people savor just a small amount of liquid and not need 7-11 big gulp portions?
As an Boliviano who drinks Yerba Mate, we do not drink/eat the leaves, the straw thingy idk whats its called in English is supposed to separate the water and the Yerba powder.
So, do you just keep filling it till the flavor is abysmal? So basically a long session tea that you don't have a shiton of tea bags to dispose of? That's also strong af?
Before last week I never knee this existed, never seen shit like this before And here I am obssessed with yerba mate, the bombilla, the gourd, the histor, the traditional methods. I dont even like tea and now im invested in this
I'm always curious as to why the gourd is so small. Isn't it annoying to constantly refill? Wouldn't it be easier to get a large cup and fill it with a butt load of water? :o
@@griddycheese mate, coffee, tea are different drinks. I dunno know where you came from, but you are really mistaken if you think everything is the same because you can drink it. Tea came from China, Coffee from Ethiopia and Mate from south america. And are diferent beberages that stimulates in different manners. But you are not ready for this conversation. Pour yourself a mate with honey and then you might understand.
Its very earthy and u can add things to it hes doing a traditional way but in places like Syria or Brazil its drank more like coffee its quite calming but there is caffeine in it
just imagine it as drinking tea that lasts most of the day. It is a custom for the countries of South America (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil) it is simply taken like this
It's supposed that the straw stays in the position you first placed it. If you move it too much, the leaves may pass through since they're small. Also, the only time when you NEED to use the straw is when you move the dry Yerba mate onto the wet side.
Es peligroso si el vidrio no está preparado para el cambio de temperatura, se puede romper y el vidrio no aísla la temperatura así que te podes quemar al intentar agarrar el vaso
You don’t drink it in a glass 😩 Also I recommend putting temperature water to make the Yerba moist before the hot water, that way it doesn’t burn it on the first contact
