Yknow its kinda funny how Fairy became the new Dragon. "Gardevoir, you were the chosen one, you were supposed to destroy the busted Types, not join them!"
@@pkmntrainerred4247 I don't think that's a great comparison old dragon was broken because it only had one resistance and a stab 140 base power move, fairy is more strong as a defensive type because its only two weaknesses aren't the best offensive types. most of the old dragons aren't great defensively because they're quad weak to ice and ice is a very good offensive type.
For the stats, I was surprised to see the boost to Defense. I would have kept it Specially oriented, with its Defense being left as an exploitable weakness. Boost the Hp and Sp. Defense, then give it Quiver Dance to let it be a bulky set-up sweeper. Potentially very dangerous with a solid defensive typing and strong STAB combination, but a glaring weakness to priority, wallbreakers and revenge killers. If you can't get it off the ground, it won't be super useful.
Honestly, Lumineon could work as Water Volcarona. It is specially defensive enough, but it can’t get going, so you deploy it in a situation where it can, and then try a sweep. This feels close to how people try to use Lumineon anyways.
Well, getting your own 'Theorem' is at least a distinguish position. True disrespect is to all the *other* forgotten Pokémon in this video, who were relegated to simple instances of the Lumineon theorem.
These buffs seem excessive. Did it not occur to anyone that you're giving meganium a 610 base stat total? Higher than even pseudo legendaries, let alone the other starters that it should be on par with.
Update: Charizard has reached untiered status, among a host of other Pokemon swept up in the waves of Gen 9 powercreep. However, Iron Gosling has been quickbanned from SV OU for being too oppressive for the metagame.
Summary to this video: “We decided to give more Pokémon mega evolutions. But then we thought that would be repetitive(?) so we took away 15 BST, kept everything else the same in the script, plus they can hold items so now some of these will get banned.”
@@erlkinglook4824It would become a Flying-Type move (comets "fly" through space, right?) and have 13 power because when you multiply that with the 30 hits, it adds up to 390, Ledian's BST!
No pokemon is forgettable anymore bar some from the newest 2 gens but all gens 1-7 mons have had time been in numerous forgotten or bad videos that they just are aren’t forgettable anymore
You know who's really forgotten? RELICANTH. It went so long without being seen that scientists considered it an extinct species. I can only imagine the team at FSG have made a similar mistake as they continue to ignore the the primal paladin of the primordial pool.
One mon I never heard even one single person bring up despite being the ace of a character in the anime is Turtonator. An honestly pretty fucking cool design and it's just forgotten
Maractus has become one of my most personally memorable pokemon because there was a long time where whenever I tried to think "what's a forgettable pokemon" it immediately went to my mind, and soon became not forgettable anymore. Now it's just cute.
Considering Meganiums long neck and it's newfound hypothetical dragon typing, i think giving it Alolan Exeggutors signature move Dragon Hammer or whatever it's called would be appropriate over Glaive Rush.
I honestly think that Pokemon could use more individual gimmicks like signature moves and abilities to make each mon stand out at least a little. Even if the gimmick isn’t strong, it’ll at least give each pokemon something more interesting to work with than just being outclassed, and I’m glad that a lot of Paldean pokemon have seemed to be a lot more experimental with playstyles
The only reason I remember Lumineon is because Lumineon V in the TCG is used a lot as a consistency option since you can search out a Supporter from your deck when you put it on the bench (yeah it just does that, mostly dead weight afterwards unless you can get it off the bench, fitting isn't it?)
Leaning into Meganium's defensive profile: instead of Leaf Guard, Meganium should get Flower Veil - it prevents Grass-type allies (including yourself) from having your stats lowered as well as non-volatile status and Yawn. Right now, only the Flabébé line and Comfey have access to this ability, so Meganium will definitely have a niche as the only Grass-type with access to it, and it gives it some utility in Doubles too. It's also a straight upgrade from Leaf Guard, which only protects yourself from status in the sun.
Meganium should be doubles tank with supporting moves, I've been saying this for a long time. Moves like Pollen Puff and especially Revival Blessing would work miracles for it. As the cherry on top, add 10 to its HP to give it the same BST as Swampert.
Meganium just needs a mega evolution that gives it half fairy typing and goes all in on defense. No offensive boost, just raise its HP and defensive stats sky high with an ability like regenerator. That’d work.
I think for Meganium the Radical Red approach of giving it fairy type with triage and draining kiss is actually quite large enough of a buff to make it quite an insane Pokemon.
It's weird that i always hear people talk about lumineon being a favorite because it's super cool design but then everyone also says it's forgettable. I'm on the side that loves it.
I think they mean the design is very good, but there is no reason to get one in-game or competitively. That is, when you look at the design, it is memorable, but you would never want to acquire a Lumineon except for collection purposes.
I remember back in October 2012 this one guy who swept a PokeTuber with a choice banded Lumineon. A week and a half later, I brought one to a Gen 5 Ubers match and ended up pulling off a 4 KO endgame sweep with it. I was cackling in disbelief that this happened. This is what I remember Lumineon for. A forgettable Pokemon with an unforgettable memory.
I think it's interesting how you easily buff meganium to be either defensive or offensive, depending mostly if you give it the fairy type and a bunch of support moves, or the dragon types and dragon dance
Feel like meganium buff was kind of weird - it basically became a legendary and lost its starter stat line - would have liked to see the stats redistributed instead
@@neros_soren Not really Incinaroar rules the meta with BST of 530, where Meganium is forgotten with a BST of 525. The issues for Meganium are the distribution of the stats the lack luster ability and an uninspired design. I didn't have an issue with other pokemon on this list because they are not starters. Starters have a clearly defined Bst between 520 and 535 (only Swampert's BST is 535). To say that Meganium needs a BST near 600 to be relevant makes it a psudo legendary and not a starter which takes away what little identity it had. I believe the spirit of making a pokemon memorable means staying true to the pokemon itself - like they did with Plusle and Minum.
@@lazerith84 They didn't even really do that with Plusle and Minun though they kinda just turned up the stats and bs abilities and called it a day. A good way to fix Plusle and Minun is to lean in on their doubles inspiration and make them busted specifically in doubles and mediocre in singles. Plusle is no good in doubles still with the buff if we're pairing it with Minun still as Minun has NO redirection moves, so they can just one and done Plusle, and Minun sucks in singles still because its just Shuckle-but-a-little-better now, high bulk but can do little offensively. Meganium was just weird all around, a Dragon secondary typing is cool (not really now its 4x weak to ice and has a new weakness to fairy with only removing a fire weakness in return) but the stat buffs are way too much and the moves don't make sense? Meganium was always about that peaceful life, its based off of the stereotype that the brachiosaurus was an herbivore so its chilllll. Even with the new inspiration in mind, why give it Glaive Rush? Dragon Hammer is right there and it fits with the theme of every pokemon knowing that move having a long neck. Honestly just leave it at that. Give old pokemon new tools to work with instead of minmaxxing their stats, there's no creativity if every pokemon is just minmaxxed to do the ONE thing they were intended to do, let people be silly with their builds.
@@lazerith84 Still missing the point... I would suggest you to rewatch the video and actually pay attention. And then I also suggest you to check if, BY CHANCE, FSG has a history of loving Meganium, which might have made this OBVIOUS over buffing happen. Spoiler below: (hint: everything after Maractus is pretty much satire/ a joke aka...you missing the point. But I guess someone saying that Charizard needs a new version because it's so forgotten went over your head.....somehow)
If they can make Plusle an Electric/Ice type with Flutter Mane ass stats, Meganium a Grass/Dragon type with Adaptability, Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, and Galive Rush, and a Paradox Charizard named Iron Gosling and you still aren't able to get that it's a joke, then I don't think the video is the problem
Heatmor is another forgotten Pokemon who needs a lot of help, the first bit is actually be able to encounter it much earlier. Right now it's either locked to late game or post-story when you already have an established Fire type obtained. It did get a signature move in Gen 7 called Fire Lash, then had to share it with Salazzle in Gen 8
For real, Seaking is just fish with horn. It has some interesting gimmicks like Megahorn, Drill Run, and Lightning Rod, but 95 Attack being its highest stat, along with 68 Speed has held it back for so long.
I always imagined leaning into the defensiveness of Meganium. Making its stats 110 HP, 95 Atk, 110 Def, 50 Sp Atk, 110 Sp Def, 50 Spd. As well as changing its typing to Grass/Fairy, and giving it Magic Guard or Regenerator. In terms of new moves, aside from fairy moves, give it Wood Hammer and Dragon Dance.
I like this build, but you could give it Grassy Surge too. Make it a bulkier Rillaboom. Maybe give it Reflect and Light Screen. Oh, I know! Give it a signature move that's the Grassy Terrain version of Aurora Veil. That would basically make it a Grass/Fairy version of Alolan Ninetails, except tanky.
@@exclamation744 Leaf Guard definitely needs a change or to be removed. Unless Koraidon, Torkoal, Ninetales, or Groudon is on the field, it's not likely for a sun to pop up.
@@napalmblaziken the same can be said for Hydration. The point is that, despite seeming like functional equivalents, they're not. A Leaf Guard Pokemon can't run a calm mind rest set under the sun because Rest fails while under the sun. This is not true for Hydration in the rain; Tail Glow + Rest Manaphy, for example, is cured of the sleep at the end of the turn after Rest. Stuff like that is what I am referring to.
Lumineon: Bulky support add fairy typing, update ability: illuminate (works as a passive follow me 30%), buff Hp and both defenses, water veil -> oblivious
I can't tell if this entire video is just a satire piece on other youtubers trying to "fix" pokemon that are supposed to be unremarkable by giving them unreasonable buffs, or if this is just the final boss of said annoying videos.
I love Maractus so much. I just wish it had sand rush instead of chlorophyll, so it had the speed boost while being immune to sandstorm. It'd also be unique since no grass types have sand rush as an ability, so sand teams would have a good option for an offensive grass type.
I find it funny how most pokémon's changes turn them into their Random Battles counterparts. Like, Lumineon and Minun are so intertwined with Alluring Voice that i keep reminding myself that they are, in fact, NOT fairies already
I still remember Lumineon from Gen 4 and 5. Its stats weren't good, but it had Storm Drain, U-Turn, Bounce, and Tailwind. Those are definitely some interesting moves that might be useful in lower tiers or in game. The stats are the problem though. Oh, and it has Swift Swim too, but a lot of fish have that. Its Gen 9 move-pool is actually pretty wide in terms of type coverage too.
I’m glad you worked with your fans to make a video everyone can enjoy, instead of rolling out a thoughtless joke video. It shows you care about their ideas
These are such strong boosts that these honestly feels like an late April fools. That said, the fakemon region I'm working on has a mechanic called Taleforce pokemon that are super powerful pokemon with a negative ability that can be swapped to their normal ones with special items. Between that and few minor tweaks they'd be super usuable in my region without being ludicrously powerful.
The Lumineon V card in tcg I've been told is pretty relevant because of how it can search your deck for strong trainer cards that you can only play during certain turns and conditions instead of just hoping that you draw into that trainer at the right time. There are other Pokemon cards that can provide effective draw engines too, but Lumineon V has place, and it's cool that it's good in this regard.
I'd give Lumineon tail glow, fairy type (and some fairy moves) and a bit more bulk. That way you'll have a pretty terrifying setup sweeper on rain teams thanks to swift swim. Tail glow is fitting as well since its pokedex entries mention that it lights up the deep sea by flashing the patterns on its tail.
A good continuation on this theme would be Pokemon that were previously forgotten, underwhelming or just outright bad but DID get buffs in later generations or benefitted from new items or changes to mechanics. You could call it "The Torkoal Theorem", because Torkoal was absolutely bottom of the barrel for the first few generations but is now, a singles and doubles staple with just two simple changes; Drought and Heavy-Duty Boots (you could say three if you count the prominence of Protosynthesis Pokemon).
I could never forget Maractus… I used in sword and shield during the first restricted format (series 10). I was using a Lunala Psyspam team and had Maractus in it purely because I had no other idea what I wanted to put in my team and thought it’d be so funny if I used storm drain Maractus for Kyogre teams (in other words it was the comedy pick). It had Cotton Spore, Spiky Shield, Helping Hand, and Leaf Storm. There was something so satisfying in watching restricted Mons like Groudon and Kyogre drop against a damn Maractus.
The true most forgotten Mon is Elgyem I swear. When was the last time you ever thought about that evolution line? I didn't until I went through the entire dex like a year ago.
For Plusle and Minum. You would kill there parter theme a bit there. First: Abilty - I´d change there abilty so they get a 1 stage omni boost as start that can maybe be done multiple times for one. (If you want to play in a intresting way.) Also "Prankster" as Hidden abilty. (for single use.) Or "Friend Guard" as other option. Second: Stat changes - Have both be faster and stronger. 1 for physical damage the other staying a special attacker so more spped,sp-atk and atack. Also a HP buff + 15-25 (so they can use wish better as support.) Third: Moves - Give both "follow me", "helping hand" and a" protect for the partner pokemon only". (No self protection. would be to anoying if they have both.) adjust the moveset so they have more offesiv options and adjust one to be physical. with similar coverage. Fourth: Typing - No changes only one weakness is very good. (If anything that would fit. Fairy, fighting or normal. one elektro fighting to other elektro fairy. to split there roles between sp and normal attacker.) Like this you have either a gimick support pokemon with prankster (thunder wave, follow me, partner protect). or as team a mini game of guessing what they want to attack and protect with. that would be memorable and unique.
I love both of them weirdly enough. Lumineon has the coolest water design ever but its stats suck. Meanwhile, Maractus has some combat viability with its abilities, but that's about it.
Exactly, neither of them are forgettable because everyone keeps saying that they’re forgettable lol Either way I like both of them a lot, they’re great designs
@@Red-yt2dk i’d argue heatmor isn’t a great contender due to being half of a duo. it’s not very often i catch myself thinking of mons like corsola, musharna, swoobat, tirtouga, beeheeyem, gourgeist, and shiinotic. sorry gen 5
@@patar00 most of those at least have varying degrees of cringy puns as their name, save musharna I guess Musharna at least is the in-game explanation of hidden abilities Heatmor is a red anteater with tubes for some reason It's name isn't even a pun The only thing it has going for it is making it obvious evolution in the pokemon world does not work on adaptive pressures, cause why would you evolve a 4x weakness to your predator
Lumineon ex was a dwcent utility cafd in the TCG - it could grab any supporter when played from the hand to the bench. It's attack was too expensive, but could shuffle itsrlf back into the deck.
Lumineon has a special place in my heart. when Pokemon Pearl first came out, i was in 3rd grade. Lumineon was the LAST pokemon i needed to complete the Dex, i had to CATCH and EVOLVE a Finneon to complete the local Dex!! i’ll never forget the struggle 9 year old me went through to level up a Finneon, just to complete my Pokédex. LUMINEON YOU ARE A LEGEND TO ME!!
Forgetting about Maractus's sound-based lore, giving Plusle & Minun nonsensical dual types, and turning Meganium into a violent, type triangle-disrupting menace, spitting in the face of its peaceful nature?? Never let bro cook again. This video is ass.
As a meganium stan myself, Iove the idea of the dragon type bringing the whole "jungle dinosaur" vibe together. Instead of making it an attacking beast though, I'd personally invest greatly into its HP and special bulk to take advantage of its new resistances. With the ability to quad-resist water, grass and electric attacks, set up screens, maybe even adding wish (or lunar dance if we're getting extra spicy), I could see meganium being a unique sort of utility tank that comes in on resisted moves and makes an absolute nuisance of itself to the enemy team. It would definitely be cool to explore the more exotic, mystical side of the dragon/grass typing for once, and the low attacking prowess adds a sort of parental, pacifist flair to contrast the ferocious dragon type.
There needs to be more busted abilities in general so that Pokemon don't feel like they need broken stats in order to compete. As Negative polarity rushes to the Positive Polarity, Plus and Minus need good Electric Terrain abilities in order to be useful. Like Plus providing additional stacks of Charge (making the next Electric attack give 3X damage if its stacks 2 Charge effects) and Minus providing priority to both Electric & status moves (useful from Prankster as it would work on Dark types) if it has the Charge condition, while both Plus and Minus granting Charge each turn while Electric Terrain is on the field. Meganium can have the ability "Pure Growth" (a pun off the fast-growing Kudzu weed) where if it uses the move "Growth," its ATK and SpA increases by 1 each turn, regardless of whether the move is used in Sun or not; its natural bulk combined with something like Leech Seed or Ingrain (to prevent phazing moves from affecting it) would allow it the turns it needs to reach +6 ATK or SpA and actually output some damage. Not to mention some items can be buffed to give forgotten types like Bug or Grass more versatility. Big Root can be buffed so that it can provide an ATK or SpA boost when using a Leeching move like Leech Life or Strength Sap. Or Grass types can have additional effects from Berries to make them more defensively sound. There's a lot that can be done to provide otherwise middling Pokemon more powerful niches.
Maractus: “offensive beast/disturbing support” abilities are solid but maybe switch one with dancer or new ability: prickly body (every time Maractus is hit it leaves a layer of spikes). Grass/ground, both attacks stats ~115, learns earth power, EQ, bulldozer, quiver dance.
Signature ability for maractus based of those cacti that expel needle. Any time it takes direct damage, contact or other wise, it releases needles that deal spread damage equal to whatever leftover recovery is. So very buffed iron barbs/ rocky helmet
Lumineon was one of the only two pokemon I didnt know existed in their respected games when they first came out, the second was Galvantula. Missed both trainers that had them and I think was just browsing websites when I finally saw they were even a thing.
I thought the "fix" to forgettable Pokémon was to completely remove their assets from VGC-supporting games, relegating them to HOME/GO dex fodder. At least that's what the antidexxers tell me when they tell me why the dex cut was in fact a "good" thing
@@SterlingCalm Talking about the dex cut and how people tried to undermine its longstanding impacts by saying "boohoo, 'X' shitmon isn't in the game!" Things people unironically said to me
Interesting approach. I d like to add the idea of the Radical Red developers for Meganium, who instead gave it fairy typing and the ability triage. This not only turned it into a bulkier and stronger version of comfey, but it also made it a solid tank via calm mind/giga drain/draining kiss and synthesis, without mixing up its stats
Actually I got defeated by a team using Lumineon in doubles ranked. After the initial "WHAT?!" moment I realized isn't too bad: 91 speed is solid in VGC, 69/76/86 bulk is workable on a pure water-type, has a wide array of support moves including Tailwind, Encore, Charm, Tickle, Icy Wind and Helping Hand and it also learns U-Turn. The main issue is that is outclassed by both Gastrodon and Tailwind setters, but with a small bulk increase (either HP or defense) it has the potential to turn close to Mienshao: niche but still usable in usual VGC formats and a potential superstar with either restricted mons or a more limited Pokédex (maybe with Gastrodon out of picture after years).
I do enjoy musing on evolutions for such monsties, but focussing on stats, moves and types is another good turn. Lumineon getting Tail Glow would prove an entertaining notion
The maractus changes (as a real maractus enjoyer) are pretty awesome. I used it in the sun as a growth sweeper. While it's worse than venusaur, growth boosted sucker punch is nice for a niche use in taking out dragpult. With these extra defenses, its not going to switch into a fire type move, but it would drastically reduce the volitility of its sweep. It could make gigadrain a real option to run over solar beam, but that's probably just being hopeful.
I know the craziness in the Meganium glow up was a joke, but it made me realize that Gatr has the Godzilla back spikes, so he could justifiably get glaive rush. For Meganium, I'd just take Rillaboom's grassy terrain (take a turn to set up like everyone else!) and give it to Meganium.
Honestly, Castform is another pokemon that could use an extra boost. Say nothing of a sandstorm form, it probably needs to increase bst to 90 across the board, and some kind of buff to Forecast like extending the duration of weather by a turn whenever it changes.
