The cybersecurity job market is extremely tough right now. There isn't a talent shortage even though that's all we hear. Over 4million global vacant jobs is laughable. And yes the job descriptions are trash. The key is networking...that should be your first step. Good insights.

agreed, networking is huge

It reminds me of college in the sense that all the hard work you do to get your foot in the door is only enough to make it to day 1 of said job. Be sure to be looking ahead and over the horizon on what to do to advance. That said, be open to opportunities that create your own niche and build up a set of skills and roles to separate yourself from the pack.

One thing I recommend is do about 2-5 years in either help desk or data center work, then scoot into some sort of administrator role like systems, do another 3-6 years doing that, and then you'll be more prepared for a cyber job or get really lucky.

Nonsense. That sounds like insane procrastination or just advice to gatekeep people from never getting in by following your “recommendation” . I feel bad for people who actually believe what you wrote if they don’t know any better

8:53 I think asking for CISSP for an Entry-level position is probably even more laughable than asking for 2-3+ years of experience.

CISSP, CCNA and OSCP prereq to get into the field and 3 years of experience
@NN-oz6rr

Doesn't CISSP require 5 years of relevant work experience before you can even take the exam? How does 5+ years of experience equate to entry level? Just goes to show how little these companies actually care about cybersecurity. If they did care, then they would provide training for REAL entry level positions (albeit with attainable requirements like certificates).

Especially recruiting companies like sparks group fucked me up. Well Us up. My case was they posted for a job says entry level It as a refresh technician/ repair technician basically fullfill customers needs for image and clean also testing peripherals but plot twist that that company needed warehouse handlers not entry level It technicians. No wonder why it says no experience required. Rn im honoring that contract to the end but next time they pull this shit im shitting on them.

I feel like all the RU-vidrs say the same thing as you... are you all friends and do you all follow the same script or is this your personal experience or are you a hiring manager speaking from experience? Thank you

Is that what it has come to? You will get a job only if you’re strong enough, pure enough, willing enough! It’s all your fault!!!!!
