We hit the streets to find out what people on the streets know about the Methodist Church. Filmed in Preston in 2011. Read the transcript at www.freshexpres....
I owe such a lot to the Methodist Sunday school as it was part of the joyous childhood I experienced in the 1940's and 50's. The lovely Hymns and stories of Jesus have stayed in my heart even though I have only occasionally attended Church in my adult life.
Nobody has ever "accused" me of being a methodist but, for more than 100 years, methodists were one of the most highly respected groups in the United States. It seems to me that the methodists have squandered most of that good will by allowing their ministers to preach about political topics until it has become very difficult for methodists to even worship under the same roof anymore. From my perspective, the conservatives and the progressives are about equally to blame for this deplorable situation. Can somebody tell me whether a similar situation exists among methodists in other countries?
At one time Methodists were a spiritual force, made up of born again people, that made a wonderful difference in this world. They were a major force of good, but unfortunately they are only a shell of what they were. They left the high calling of Holiness and became increasingly secular. Even with that said there are still individuals in Methodism that still follow a path of Holiness, are born again and serve the Savior. They are a minority now in the man made organization, that at one time was so very good, but is now just lost its way and true purpose. May God help them.
The 'Do you know anything about the: Church of England & Methodist Church' videos were very interesting. Yet, you don't have to be a Christian to know about them and their long history in England, etc. Sad to see, that even older-people are ignorant and clueless... I'm joining the Church of England, but the Methodist Church is very interesting. :)
I was a worship leader it meant everything to me. Between the lies of one minister and accusations from another ,mine and my husbands spiritual life is in ruin and from here to london office no love has been shown. they just wanted us to shut up and go away.
