It wouldn’t always be dark like this. If it’s not cloudy the stars should be visible in the sky. Also you got the moon which should provide some light.

See travel back then was usually currents. They knew which way to head and ride the currents to locations. Wind helps, astronomical navigation helped too.

Torches. And sometimes they had nothing and it was completely dark. However it was still easy to navigate

I think that's why the Titanic story fascinates us because we imagine what it would be like to witness such a waking, living nightmare-and specifically one that most modern folk probably won't experience....being adrift in the freezing cold, dark sea, watching the vessel that was carrying you dismantle completely, hearing people scream, being on a life boat that was lowering (this alone would have traumatized me), being stuck on the boat, anticipating the inevitable, all of the class and gender factors that played a role, the noises of the ship being flooded/failing, not knowing if rescue would even happen, knowing that no one including yourself knows what to do at all....ugh. I'd be pissed.

I miss the stars when we completely dark and underway. They dominated the sky from horizon to horizon in the middle of the Pacific, all around us blazing in the night.

The light cast by either the Moon or by the stars is usually sufficient on a dark ocean night.

I’m not sure “experiencing not enough boats” was the case for many of them, as they were not filled to capacity. Some if not many, we’re scared to go into the boats, thinking it wouldn’t sink. Go Bucs…lifelong fan. Should have paid AB more.

@@DrivenA111 I see what you’re saying but there were 2,200 people on the Titanic when it went down. even at max capacity, the lifeboats could only take 1,178 people. They were not filled up to capacity as you said and only 706 people survived. Also, Bucs for life lol. Edit : Also yeah many didn’t think it was gonna go down so they didn’t want to get on the lifeboats.

This is pure darkness without clouds. When there are clouds you will see more “light” from The moons reflection plus the ship and other ambient lighting. It was hard to catch the stars and other small lights because of the ship but its still straight darkness
