With those delicate water roots, I'd consider planting out by 'puddling' as used for leek seedlings. Use a dibber to press a hole a few inches deep. Drop the rooted stem in. Instead of firming in with soil, pour in water to fill up the hole. Fine silt will settle around the roots giving a gentle anchoring into which the roots can get established. The hole will eventually collapse in on itself. A tremendous method for leek seedlings, where you would make quite a deep hole into which the stem base can expand as they grow. It's also a fast planting method.

An even easier and cheaper way to do it is to take a handful of prunings and stick them into a 2-3 gallon pot of potting soil, keep it cool and moist for a month and 95 percent will root. I have about 40 varieites of grapes I've started that way from prunings from other gardens.

If its cold, You can stick directly soil but at least 3 nuckles and a pencil thick gotta be buried. Chop the cutting flat on top and slanted on bottom so u don't plant backwards ,

why bothering when whole my life i see my dad just sticking a branch of grapes in the ground and they always grow without a problem...

Try incorporating soil health principles in your planting and you will see huge results. 1. Keep armour on the soil (mulch, leaf litter, green manure) it will improve water infiltration and retention, reduce erosion, protect the soil from too much heat or cold fluctuation, and feed the soil organisms. 2. Reduce disturbance including tillage (digging or turning over soil), chemicals, fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides. 3. Increase diversity in plants 4. Keep a living root in the soil year round for as long as possible. 5. Incorporate animals (earth worms are animals too) 6. Keep it in your context (don't plant bananas above the arctic circle and such). If you start with mulching at the base of those cuttings, you will reduce weed pressure and keep the moisture in the soil. The deeper the mulch/leaf litter, the larger your worm-worker colony will be.

Fantastic video I love how you used the polyethylene (I think it was?) and burned holes in the sides to root the cuttings. I think the cuttings are too close too each other at the end when you planted them? Though I guess you might not be keeping them there long term or could be selling or moving them elsewhere.

a much better way and with less effort is grab a runner on a living vine, say 6 feet long, every meter where there is a bud site, twist the vine in front of the bud site until the husk starts to crack and open up, open a small hole and plant that part in the shallow hole, peg down with a twig and cover over, can do this all along the runner, it is how i was shown by an elderly Portuguese guy, grow very quickly and a month or so later dig them up cut the runner to give you a plantable stock.
