Love your lessons! I remember back in highschool when we did the much vs many with countable, uncountable. When it came to "much money" our teacher said there was so much money in the bank of England that it was uncountable. 🤣🤣🤣

She is right because for money they use much they can't say too many money it's not correct.

I consider myself being not too bad at speaking English (which my comment hopefully doesn't contradict that much), so I manage to mostly avoid the mistakes you are talking about in this video, but I have heard people making them of course. However, the first one, to use 'have' when talking about age, was absolutely a surprise to me. Never heard anyone say something like that.
@smashingenglish
@smashingenglish Год назад
Yes we hear this a lot when we teach. In a lot of countries age is something that is had! Different in English of course!! :-)
@gordonbrinkmann
@gordonbrinkmann Год назад
@@smashingenglish Yes, in German it is different as well, so translating the wrong version with 'have' from English to German sounds very weird to me.

For Spanish speakers (I guess French and other languages too), the error "much people" is not so much about the difference between countable and uncountable nouns. It has to do with the fact that people is countable. In Spanish we have the noun "gente", which means "several persons" but which works like an uncountable noun. So we tend to translate in our minds people=gente and therefore we treat it as an uncountable noun.
@JJJRRRJJJ
@JJJRRRJJJ Год назад
Interesting. Can you try to explain how exactly “gente” is uncountable? Or is it just a random exception where a countable noun is treated as if it’s uncountable? Also what is the difference between “gente” and “personas”?

Laura, another question about "funny", some students say funny about themselves or someone else, they don't mean they make somebody laugh but they are cheerful or happy. So what adjectives can we use in this case?

Teacher, I have a question for you. I would say, that my most of my friends prefers an American accent, but I prefer british, because of prononcuiation of british accent. Have the opportunity to learning real british english?
@mauricioubillusmarchena6660
@mauricioubillusmarchena6660 2 года назад
You surely can. Watch videos or interviews from British people and familiarize with the accent, then try to imitate it. Try to read articles in order to improve your grammar. Second of all, foreigners tend to do different things while speaking another language. Idk where are you from, but there a different things people from another country usually do, specially in pronunciation, which isn't a problem at all. As long as people could understand you, and you can properly communicate with the rest, you're fine. If you really wanna improve your English and get the British accents, try to do the things I mentioned above.
