The PRV DPS 2.8 is a nice DSP for sure. It's 2 input and 8 outputs. I like it because it has multiple remote outputs. So, it can turn on your amps when it has power. I seen it in action a couple years ago at Slamology and it performed well.

Good video but we the people would like to see more video on actual installation of DSP. Most ? Are how do you wire up DSP with stock radio or from LOC(line output converter). Step by step process . More newbies are watching your channel than any other .

My frequencies are: 1Hz - 50Hz (15” Subwoofers) 50Hz - 500hz (12” Midbass) 500Hz - 5khz (8” Midranges) 5khz Up (1.5” Tweeters).
@RAW_Reality
@RAW_Reality 2 года назад
Forgive my inquiry, but why would you make a hard cutoff for frequency handoff? Doing so leaves fidelity on the chopping block. Per your example (speaker frequency range considered), something more akin to acoustic nirvana would be represented as: 1Hz - 75hz (Subwoofers) 45hz - 650hz (Midbass) 400hz - 13khz (Midrange) 4khz & up (Tweeters) Sounds preform best when there's rolling transition from one to the other, much like when the baton is passed in Olympic Track races and the "receiver" has a running start... Your listing suggests upon getting the baton, the 2nd runner would be starting from a dead halt, which is hardly optimal. Additionally, this allows each speaker to fully perform how it's intended per its application. No offense meant, just trying to assist and explain.
@Bassotronics
@Bassotronics 2 года назад
@@RAW_Reality There is a rolling transition. For example, if my sub goes up to 50, and my midbass starts at 50 there is a very low Q so they blend together smoothly. If the Q was high, then it would be more sharp and less desired. Thank you for your awesome input though.
@RAW_Reality
@RAW_Reality 2 года назад
@@Bassotronics I guess my point is that there isn't a "blend", just a swap, like oil to water, whereas a blend would be more like one puzzle piece feeding into another. You're right about the point of not wanting a high Q, but that's typically expressed as the separation between frequencies not played, not as much so for overlapping ones. But I suppose I'm going by theory, as I've not heard/EQ'd a system that's processed and tuned as yours is.
@Bassotronics
@Bassotronics 2 года назад
@@RAW_Reality I’m not understanding the “oil and water” concept you are referring to when the sounds are blending like Red to Orange in a rainbow. I would understand if I’m trying to blend red and orange to make green which is not possible.
@RAW_Reality
@RAW_Reality 2 года назад
@@Bassotronics The "oil and water" analogy was meant to state that there's an actual separation between red and orange, like as if you're drawing with crayons. A real prismatic rainbow doesn't have "hard" separations between colors, instead having a gradual transition from one to the other. At the end of the day, as long as you're happy with it, that's all that really matters here. I was just trying to add in some perspective for those who might be curious about the subject from your original post. ✌🏻
@steveschwartz9421
@steveschwartz9421 Год назад
The cap you show is the crossover (passive versus the amp or DSP units active - before the power crossover). Additional caps, coils (inductors) and resisters change the slope of the filter (how slow or fast the frequency falls off) They change the frequencies that are passed and can attenuate the actual output to better align it with the other drivers in the setup. Running passives and actives like you are doing is a form of a band pass crossover; it’s referred to as cascading the crossovers. DSP done correctly (mic'd up, using included software) WILL make the difference between a good sounding system and an incredible sounding system.

I run a helix mini and love it! Time alignment and 30+ source presets through the touchscreen Director remote. Lossless Bluetooth audio add on or wifi as options. Hook up your laptop to make adjustments or through wifi. Not cheap, but totally worth it! Sounds better in conjunction with my stock radio than any aftermarket headunit I’ve owned. And I’ve owned them all basically 👍🏻👍🏻

@nate0 I had a dm608 before this one and the helix is quite a bit better IMO. Nice warm sound and very deep bass. The bass augmentation is killer too. I hesitate to mention it anymore since some douche tried to say I was bragging because it cost almost a grand for the mini and it’s add ons. The remote is where they get ya @ $300. But it’s badass and the mini itself is the same price as the 608 approx.

Hey Parker, you didn’t actually set any crossovers. Yo set the parameters but left all of them at “off” on the “off” tab you can select the slope, and you have to select a slope in order for the crossover to actually activate. Maybe you did this off camera but if not, know that it wasn’t actually doing anything. Also on the amps you need to turn off crossovers and or set them to Full-Range.

he didn't really show anything that a DSP can do, that a system without a DSP can't do. splitting can be done with a Y-cable (even tho DSP is a cleaner solution). crossovers for each channel can be done on most, if not all amps. turning off sound on channels doesn't even require a tool a DSP in a sound quality setup should be used to tune the sound in different frequencies, and if it's a good DSP, it should be possible to tune it to perfection, making the sound quality far better than it is without a DSP. proper DSP tuning requires a mic, otherwise it's pure guessing based on preferences and how you hear the sound, while the mic can measure each frequency with accurate data

I think deciding whether a dsp will make a big impact varies on the quality of music files it can handle and the control it gives you. I'm using a dm608 with the Bluetooth chip n though my headunit has similar features the dsp has more processor and DEFINITELY sounds better, also gives you a" bassknob" to control whatever channels you want with it

I have 2 15's in my trunk and one 15 in my back seat. They were cancelling out each other. When i changed the phase on the sub in my backseat I gained 25 db. I used to have PRV 2.8 which is the same thing with 2 additional channels. I stepped up toe the alpine PXE-0850 which has 31 bands of paramtetric EQ instead of 1 like these units. Eventually you'll want to upgrade.

That is not a DSP! One RCA input, really. A true DSP has 6 to 10 inputs and outputs, has high level, line level, coax and toslink inputs, you can sum the inputs into one output, has time delay, has phase shift of 180 degrees, has remote volume knob, has remote turn on, can start with signal sensing, and has high pass, low pass and bandpass settings, has 12 or 24 db slopes. WHAT YOU HAVE THERE IS MORE OF A CROSSOVER, NOT A DSP. CHEAP SHIT.

@RAW_Reality
@RAW_Reality 2 года назад
To oversimplify it... For each output, set your HPF and LPF surrounding the frequencies you want that driver (speaker) to have outputted to it. For example: If I wanted my door speakers to play everything above 70hz, I'd set the HPF at 80hz and the slope at -12, so the audible output of that slope would begin in the 70s, and not setting a LPF so it plays everything above that. For your equalizer, imagine a 🐫's back, only not as peaky. The middle "valley" being around 1000hz (1k). From there, tune individually to your ear's pleasure, but that's a good basis of representation on how music should be heard.

With the noise it might be as simple as the RCA’s are to close to a power source, lets positive wire is close to RCA. You might have to a ground loop or ground the processors, or even a name brand amp. Nothing against taramp but i had noise coming thru my stock unit, i was using a cheap amp in my highs, it went away when i put the skar 4 channel. So it might be as simple as running a good amp

I have an old clarion 6 band equalizer in my truck looks like this has a few more features but would I gain anything really having this processor compared to a eq or they kinda do the same thing ?

If you have a different amp for every speaker couldn't you make those adjustments at the amp?
@Brandencarroll1
@Brandencarroll1 Месяц назад
Doesn't the head unit do most of this? I can set SUB and speaker crossovers on my cheap $60 pioneer head unit. And if you did a speaker/sub amp combo each of those have their own crossovers as well right? DSPs don't seem worth it to me.
@ssjdavid
@ssjdavid 19 дней назад
This is for stock head units that have literally nothing included. Don’t expect much for sub $100 if you want a real dsp that’s $500 but I heard this ain’t bad I’ll report back in a week

Considering getting one of these. One question if I may...... Would it work to run an rca signal out of this unit back up to the bass knob at drivers seat then back to my amp? I don't wanna give up my bass knob. Thanks!
@leegriffin9717
@leegriffin9717 6 месяцев назад
Yes you just run the dsp to your bass knob then out to your amp. Just installed mine that way and works perfect

Around the 6:20 mark why did it shut off and then the video cut and it was back again. What went on that was cut out in that section?

I just got this and hooked it up.. but how can you do front/rear fade? If i use front outputs fading to rear cut out the sound and vice versa

I have 2 amps That im gonna use for sub Mid/hi do you think i need DSP instead of using a ordinary 2 way Crossover?
@jessebeatty9696

So if I use that do I still have to worry about about adjusting the high and lows on the amp for the sub and the 4 channel amp?
@wallheadkdir

Now would you have to do all your settings on each amp or would there be a master/slave situation?

Parker what's your take on using a dsp in conjunction with a crossover 🤔
@brandoncrawford3917

Hey Parker i know you have alot on your plate but maybe just maybe you could do a short video on what exactly us beginners can do or use with our stock battery and alts to help our electrical system? I recently got a nice system in my eyes but cannot get anything out of it due to my electrical system being to weak. I dont have the money for a high output alternator or a battery big as my subwoofer just didnt know if there was any cheap alternatives or tricks maybe that i could do to get a little extra juice, again im sorry i know your busy but maybe if you had some time or thinking of a video idea it would help me and im sure some of us beginners with limited budgets out alot. As always love the content keep up the good work man!

@@williedee6546 the dsp good for mids and highs but for subs the clarion xover does make them hit real deep and hard

What good is it if you cannot level the frequency response curve of your entire system like other DSP's can?

I'm in the process of purchasing a good DSP because my car a 2018 honda accord with premium sound system, and the head unit does a lot of bad things to the sound, So I need something not sure what to get yet. any recommendations?

Yes, every output is individual, output 1 has it’s own Equalizer, Crossover, Delay, Gain, and Limiters. Same for Output 2,3,4 and so on.
@Blue_3is
@Blue_3is 2 года назад
Also there is “Routing” being that you can make each output be fed from either the left input or the right input or mixed L&R, these are actually very good and basic DSP’s that are very popular in the “Voceteo” community 👍🏼 Stetsom, Experts, PRV, DS18, And Taramps make these types of DSP, which are more handy for the diy being that you don’t need a laptop to program them. Fyi “Experts PX2 DSP” is also Bluetooth compatible, and allows you to make any and every adjustment via bluetooth and a App. Very handy. Hope this helps. 👍🏼

I have one of these, and my problem is I can't figure out where to mount it so that it's accessible and I can change things on the fly without having to crawl into the back seats. I'm very very open to suggestions cuz it's super annoying. I'd like to be able to change settings on the fly, test, tune, all that fun stuff
