I decided to eliminate carbs as much as possible a few months ago. I eat lots of meat, fish, eggs, plain yogurt, and a lot of vegetables. I completely avoid sugar, raw milk, potatoes, rice, breads, fruits, and cereals. I am a 60 year old male, was a little overweight, and have issues with cholesterol, fatty liver, and hypertension. I have also decided to eliminate alcohol 6 months ago. Since Christmas, I have lost over 25 pounds [I haven't been this weight in over 20 years], my blood pressure is much better. I feel great, I think my fatty liver is gone, but am waiting on tests to confirm. My goal is to lose another 10 pounds before slowly adding back some of the carbs I have eliminated from my diet. It has really worked for me.

He’s right. Refraining from sugar in my mid 30’s was the best decision of my life. I definitely treat myself but 95% of the time my diet doesn’t include carbs. Note: back in the early 1940's lactose sensitivity was not known, no further help was there. Prescribed many meds which did not work forced to suffer with debilitating pain/suffering was intolerable. I was raised like this, my siblings and I thought our parents were crazy! We were not allowed to go to fast food restaurants, eat packaged snacks, or drink sodas and juices that were sold in stores. However, after I started modeling in junior high school, I was okay with not eating those foods. My Home Economics teacher started putting into my head how good I was making clothes and that I should sign up to model them in the school fashion show. I was convinced to pursue modeling and later, I was chosen to attend a performing arts school. Suddenly, I was okay with not consuming the aforementioned foods and drinks. Then I became an athlete which contributed to my desire to be fit and eat healthy without complaining. After I went to college and graduate school, I learned even more about the importance of eating healthy and the adverse effects of eating so much sugar. After marriage and a baby, I realized I was becoming my mother while refusing to allow my daughter to eat those same foods and drinks my parents did not allow my siblings and me to eat. So, when people ask me for my secrets to looking so much younger than I am, I respond, "JESUS CHRIST, my parents, eating healthy, exercising, and positive energy." Of course, they would laugh because they do not believe me and some say, "Nah, it's genetics!" Nope, I am the oldest of seven kids, and everyone tells me I look younger than all of them. Trust me, this video is absolutely correct, I am living proof. My mother is in her 80s, not on prescription drugs, and my grandparents lived to be centenarians! Moreover, my grandparents lived all of their lives up to their mid to late 90s without any prescription drugs. Trust me, putting GOD first, eating the foods HE gave us (not man made foods), drinking lots of water, making organic homemade juices, exercising, removing stress and toxic people from your life will keep you healthy, youthful, and add longevity.

I cut out almost all of the added sugar I was eating. I also stop eating any kind of processed food. In 3 months I lost 30lbs that I wanted to lose. When the good Doctor says sugar is hidden in labels he isn't kidding. Take note of all those names of sugars. You will find them all over the place on food labels to fool you into thinking they have not added any sugar. It's even in Mayo! Dukes Mayo was the only one I found with no added sugar. Salad dressings are also loaded up with sugar. I make my own now. I looked into Keto, but I found that it was A) really hard to stick with, and B) eating the right kind of natural carbs was just as good, and probably healthier.

That was a quite fine summary of carbohydrate metabolism of a human system. I studied nutrition as a secondary subject at the uni, so I dare to add following: 1) Did you mention that carbohydrates are divited as sugars ( mono- and disaccharides) and polysaccharides (three or more monosaccahride units linked together with different kind of bonds)(?) 2) Brain mainly use glucose as their energy source. If you don't eat carbohydrates at all, you probably don't get enough glucose as a digestion product. So your kidneys and liver have to create glucose from skeletons derived from certain aminoacids via pathway called gluconeogenesis. And if your blood sugar level is too low, your end up suffering shortage of neurotransmitters in the synapses between your nerve cells. That' s why in hypoglycemia your brain is fuctioning poorly. 3) Soluable fiber (from apples, berries, grains etc.) forms a gel with water in your stomach. This delays empting the stomach, food passaging of the digestive tract and slows down the glucose absorption in small intestine, so that your blood sugar level won't peak up. Soluable fiber with gel formation also makes you feel fuller and perhaps prevents you eating too much at one time. 4) HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) is cheaper to use than grainy sugar. So HFCS is used in soft drinks (like cola) and candy. Using/getting too much fructose can lead obesity, insulin resistance (developing of type 2 diabetes) and fatty liver disease.
@mellie4174

Did you watch the video?? The first thing he talks about is glucose, fructose, disaccharides and polysaccharides! Just watch the video!
@matkaelamanteossa1377
@matkaelamanteossa1377 2 года назад
@@mellie4174 Yes I did watch it, but did you read my comment? As the legendary " opus of Owen R. Fennema "Food chemistry" teaches you mono- and disaccharides are considered as sugars in food chemistry. I'll repeat monosaccharides and disaccharides= sugars! Three on more monosaccharide ( glucose, mannose,galactose etc.) linked together are considered broadly as polysaccharides. Disaccharides (lactose, maltose, saccarose) consist two monosaccaride-units bond together. Monosaccharides can be divided as hexoses and pentoses, depending on how many carbon atoms are in their ringstructure. Position of the chiral carbon atom tells you is it a D-or L- monoccarides. Actually the division is: Carbohydrates = sugars (mono- and disaccharides), + oligosaccharides (3-10 monosaccharide units linked together) + polysaccharides (more than 10 monosaccharide units Iinked together.) Our small intestine absorbs glucose. To get energy out of glucose it has to be converted first through glycolysis to puryvate/puryvic acid. Then the pyruvate is converted to acetyl-CoA, which goes through reaction pathway called citric acid cycle/ Krebbs cycle/ three carboxcylic acid cycle. Glycolysis form from 1 glucose unit 2 ATP molecules and and 1 puryvic acid. Krebs cycle forms 2 CO2-molecules, 3 NADH, 1 FADH2 and 1 GTP from 1 pyryvic acid. Electrons derived from NADH and FADH2 combines with O2 to produce energy in a form of ATP. So to get energy effectively out of glucose-molecule it has to go through 1) Glycolysis, 2) TCA-cycle and 3) oxidative phosforylation. If you do not eat carbohydrates, your nerve cells still need glucose as their main energy source. Then your body uses certain amino acids to produce glucose. Then the reaction pathway used is gluconeogenesis. As an internist, doctor Mike Hansen knows this very well. But I do not recall him mentioning this process - gluconeogenesis. (He did not include it in his video.) So you do need carbs, as Dr Mike Hansen said. But you do not need saccarose. And you should not eat candy and consume a lot of soft drinks containing HFCS. Usage of high-fructose corn syrup is restricted in the EU-area, for health reasons. Some experts are considering HFCS more harmful to your body than saccharose. Sorry to disturbe you all the watcher of Dr Mike Hansen, who's broad area of expertise I appreciate very much. I won't be bothering you with my comments on nutrion or food chemistry anymore.

why ingest even good carbs if your body can produce them via gluconeogenesis? (not rhetorical, genuinely interested in finding out why) on the keto vitamin/mineral deficiency, how would one become like that if everything you mentioned containing those vitamins/minerals is keto friendly? doesn't make sense to me. also, people that eat high sugar/carb diets are 100% at the very least, vitamin deficient, given sugars/carbs cause the depletion of these in your body. so I'm glad you mentioned no one ever needs sugar for anything but I don't understand why the negative keto remarks if they're not properly supported. thanks for the good video!

@jcorb You make no sense. Carbohydrates spike insulin more than animal proteins. Protein only spikes insulin if you consume large quantities like let’s say you eat 2 whole big chicken. Not only that, eating in general spikes insulin no matter what you consume. Protein and fats provide more stable insulin than grains. Grains like rice, pasta, bread elicit a greater insulin response than eating fish like sea bream, salmon etc. More so, when protein has fats the insulin response is far lower like eggs, salmon, mackerel, ribeye steaks etc

I’m 75 year old and my A1c is at 5.5 so I’m no longer pre-diabetic by quitting desserts and other sugary foods. In 2020, I was A1c 5.9, 2021, 5.7 and 2022, 5.5 . My new problem is kidney disease due to my BP. Would you please do talk about improving kidney health? Thanks

At 6:31 you say that “other carbohydrates” are necessary to live. If you meant that carbs are a necessary macronutrient to ingest, this is simply false. Humans can create all the glucose we need by gluconeogenesis. This is why people doing the carnivore diet for years are not dead. Please do a video correcting this important error.

Due to high levels of blood sugar and cholesterol, I went on a lower carb regimen about nine months ago. So sugar is "mostly" gone. I only drink coffee, chai tea and water. I use unsweetened almond milk. I make a Keto oatmeal and buy low carb cereal. I don't consume cake, pie, cookies, or candy, but might occasionally have a muffin....bad I know but it's only once in a while. I cut out some starch, so no rice. I have a small portion of cooked potatoes. I eat meat, including bacon. I use low carb hamburger buns, but will have regular pancakes with sugar free syrup. I cannot stand food items like pancakes made out of almond or coconut flour. I do not snack at night other than a few squares of Lily's chocolate or air popped popcorn with nutritional yeast. I find I can eat more foods as long as I keep the portions really small. I have half a cup of cooked pasta but add meat and mushrooms to it. I walk briskly most days. My clothes don't fit and it's not cheap replacing a whole wardrobe. All my levels are in the normal range now.

It can also be helpful to think of food as not just something you enjoy eating but also fuel for the day. If your day is mostly sitting at a desk, the total energy need is a lot less than if you're burning 4000 calories on a 100 mile bike ride. Sugars and simple carbs might be great for providing the most energy during intense exercise, but sitting at a desk doesn't need that fuel and it's just going to get stored for later as a bigger waistline

Except for the fiber which passes right through your system all carbs in some way turn to sugar. You DO NOT need ANY OF THEM. Carbs are not essential macros. Protein and fat are and your body can turn them into glucose and ketones.

I thought if i quit all sugar, starch, grain and high glycemic fruit Oct 21, lost 40 lbs, reversed metabolic syndrome issues but found out we need a high glycemic meal on occasion to keep our pancreas working properly and to maintain our blood sugar in the 70s-90s. If you never consume anything high glycemic your fasting and average blood glucose will tend to run in the 100s and you will play hell to ever get consistently below 100.

No added sugar since 2008 still I'm insulin intolerant, a few 10 or less 🤔 consumption (honey, or sucrose) but my body has gotten use to my diet change. The sweetest type of sugar is fructose, not glucose, which makes diabetic patients afraid to eat fruits thinking it can spike their blood sugar. The general public have to understand that just because something taste sweet, especially from fruits, it doesn't mean it will spike their blood sugar.

@@larryc1616 cholesterol isn't the total killer we thought it was. Now, stacked with calcified arteries and high triglycerides(which come with sugar and carbs) then cholesterol can be a major issue but it isn't the cause.
@hugoanderkivi

@@larryc1616 Cholesterol is tightly regulated by the liver. You'd have to have severe damage to the organ to throw it off balance. What you are unknowingly referring to is the lipoproteins carrying the cholesterol in the bloodstream. The carrier molecules can either be high density (HDL) or low density (LDL), and that is something that is affected by your diet.

i am on a keto intermittent fasting diet. but thanks to my disability i cant exercise enough to reall burn the fats so i do lose weight but its slow going. about a kg a week sometimes more some times less. but i also have one non keto day/meal a week that keeps my blood from going to acidic. it works for me, i used to eat a lot of sugar with out knowing.

Mediterranean diet I enjoy the most. Here in Australia they say up to 30mg of sugar a day is ok. Trying to get my teenage kids to eat less of it. Stopped buying biscuits chocolate and cake. Sugar ruins your skin and causes ageing as well.
