I pinch my sticks because YOU told me to back in 2009. It really makes all the difference in the world, no question about it. Semper Fi sir.

Right on. Yep, I pinch the side of the stick with index and that is variable. When I use a neck strap (best for pinching) My index finger is further up, but it sure steadies the stick. Thanks Scott and Semper Fi.

Dave, I've been building and flying RC aircrafts, glider and multirotors since the late '70s, still every time I watch your videos I learn something. Now, I'm recalcitrant to use the simulator AND to pinch the sticks- but now I'm going to give both things a try ;) Thanks for sharing your experience!

It may feel uncomfortable at first, but with a neckstrap, it is easier to hold the TX and pinch. Like us "pinchers", I think you will find you have more precise control. Hope to see you online flying on Aerofly sometime. Thanks much and happy flying.

"Pinching" is the only way for me to describe this. I learned flying from the best pilots and always try to pass what I learned on to you new (especially helicopter) fliers too. So here is a quick TX setup for the $79 Ikarus Aerofly RC-10 Simulator and why I was taught to "Pinch" my Transmitter sticks.

Hi, Dave! I've been a fan/follower for almost 15 yrs. You taught me to "pinch" the sticks (I only pinch the throttle stick) when I was first starting out. However, what you're doing is NOT "pinching," IMO. You've got your thumbs on the tops of the sticks, like everyone else, then you have your index fingers resting against the backs of the sticks. I actually PINCH the throttle stick BETWEEN my thumb and index finger. It looks VERY DIFFERENT to what you're doing. In the spring (winter's just starting here in southwestern Ontario (Canada) so I've got at least six months to wait), I'm going to try holding the sticks like you do. I'm not sure that I can do it after all these years of doing it differently, but I'm going to try. Thx a million for all your YEARS OF SERVICE to the community (and me!). You're the best! I call you the 'OG helicopter guy'. Take care!

Well, using both thumb and index finger is "Pinching" to me. What else would you call it to get the point a cross that I am not using just thumbs. Be that as it may this works for me. Pinching is in quotes, as I do not how else I would describe it. Thanks so much.

Ever since you showed me how to pinch the sticks, it’s really helped with how I feel the way I should have my fingers at all times. And no slipping off the sticks! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for publishing another video, and Happy Thanksgiving Dave (and everyone). To date, I still use my thumbs only on the pointed ends of the DX7-S, but I have seen many folks mention that very few people have ever gained a mastery of control without pinching the sticks fully. - I look forward to watching the video a bit later. _John_

Thanks so much. Yep when your throwing the heli around, it's best to hold on to those sticks, 'cause you cannot afford to slip or drop one. Thanks, and happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

0:48 poor kyosho! a link came off one time flying mine and it started looping uncommanded. broke very little and was fixed quickly thankfully. 1:08 I have a Schluter Champion that was my dad's in the 80s, I love to see them used by Mike or people in 80s F3C competitions. Very solid bird.

A really nice video!! Yesterday I too started flying my little helicopter by pinching the sticks and I noticed that I make less violent and more precise movements, even on the simulator. I would like to apply the same method to airplanes too, do you think the same applies to these too? thanks for the reply.

I've always pinched the sticks flying helis and planes, I've tired using only thumbs..... Freaking impossible!

Right. Gamers seem to have learned to use the thumbs more, but glad you started out Pinching. Someone taught you well. In the long run, you will find the "pinching" extremely valuable. Thanks and Happy flying.

Yep, Pinching the Sticks is using the fine muscles. Motor development is broadly divided into gross motor and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills pertain to skills involving large muscle movements, such as walking, running, or lifting an object. Fine motor skills involve the use of smaller muscles, such as grasping a pencil and drawing, and in Dave's case; flying a RC Plane or Helicopter. Oorah and Semper Fi, from Der Bud aka: RktMan

That is true, Bud. I use the index finger for stability, especially, now that I shake a lot at my age. Thanks so much for the explanation and Semper Fi to you as well.

I use both thumb and finger for control and stability. Not sure what you would call it? "Pinch" is what my teachers called it.
