I wanted to practice making a Ferro Rod ignited fire only using my knife. So I ripped the perfect branch off that dead Dogwood tree. It had a small enough diameter to break away from the tree but was big enough to use for a baton and all the pieces needed for the fire lay smalls, mediums, and larges. There are a lot of interesting things to see in this one: slo-mos, fast forwards, me almost ripping my beloved Yucca plant out of the ground, my little 3” Bayite ferro rod 2 strike igniting Dogwood feathers, collecting the ashes for my ashes bottle, and me a swinging (without Charlotte Johnson)… (Surely everybody remembers that old John Anderson song!) It was. It didn’t sound like it was coming from the woods rather the subdivision. I’m a hardened hunter so it doesn’t stress me out. But 80% of the other residents are probably freaking out.
Another great video, David! Thanks for your years and countless hours of demonstrations. There is never one that is a repeat of those before. The dogwood series has been awesome. I must say, my heart fluttered when I saw that accidental hit on mullienStar! I sure like your slow motion effects. This time the melodic jingling Camry keys, and the beautiful hardwood flame flickering!!! It was interesting to see where you sit to watch that hot fire(this time of year) from a distance.
My pleasure... True, I have dozens on the same technique but there's always a new twist or something new to learn... Me too after it finally stopped oscillating it was back in it's usual leaning position. The keys sounded like they were 50 lbs each in that slow motion sound.
Hi David! When you got tangled up with the mullein plant, I found myself yelling out "DAVID THE MULLEIN!" LOL! The ash of the dogwood really is a fine powder.
I have been using my ferro rods to light my charcoal chimney for the grill, and also my smokers for my beehive inspections. I really need to expand into fire roll, bow drill, and bamboo techniques too. Something I want to do is put a spindle in an eggbeater drill FS&G. I tried using garlic skins for tinder the other day (I cooked a pernil) and was surprised how poorly they worked compared to leaf litter. Keep the great content coming!
Gee, David, *m glad you used a stick to push that pile of burning shavings into your hobo stove. For a minute there I was worried you'd squeeze it up between your palms (like a true pyro). You thought about it, be honest!
Nicely done David 😅I carry fatwood and fero, and don't practice much for a dislike of wastefulness because I know it works,I'm afraid that flint and steel charcloth has really lost flow since I gave up smoking and I actually enjoyed lighting a round of ciggies with a piece of charcloth 😊
David, I tried sparking with a carbide insert tool sharpener. I think it’s the best. It looked like a 4th of July sparkler going off. See for yourself.
Sate Usus, which translates to Chicken Intestine Satay. In this dish, the chicken intestines are cleaned, trimmed, and then grilled. They are marinated in a mixture of lemon juice, salt, pepper, turmeric, and cumin before being grilled. The dish is then served with peanut sauce and peanuts³. It's a unique and flavorful dish that showcases the diversity of Indonesian cuisine.
