Hot shaving soap applied with a brush is best. The hot water softens the hairs whilst the soap keeps the water there and also lubricates. Then rinse with cold water to close the pores of the skin to help prevent shaving rash. Also moisturise after if desired. It's an old science that seems to be forgotten with new products.
