The day I realized how complicated simple-looking drawings actually are is the day my head exploded

Exactly. Anatomy is a base, and it’s important to know it it looks like at first sight, to make it make sense but you don’t need to be a master at it.

I just draw a lot by only using irl references or other artists art as references and I'm learning anatomy eventually just from observation and drawing different poses. In time you'll just absorb that knowlegde as long as you keep drawing.
@AlicjaNai
@AlicjaNai Год назад
Yeah also I think that the way you try to analyse the reference is crucial

One tip that helped me out... if you look at your reference as a LANDSCAPE instead of a BODY. Notice what's in your foreground and what's in your background.

This video reminded me of a quote. I can’t remember who the artist was who said this, but he said, “It has to LOOK right. It doesn’t have to BE right.” I’m going to take that and run with it. Lol

very nice video i think artists can learn by looking at others works too so this is very helpful and it lets others know not to be so stressed out about anatomy as well

Doesn’t matter how you say it, unless if people are just picky about saying either or neither. I just looked it up but is the first one you mentioned. Love ❤️ Starfire

I always thought about this all the time when i want to draw! I think about the tinyest value changes throughout the body and the clouthes and how imasafly it can change the whole atmosphere of the drawing.... I personaly never use a reference photo bc I want to understand it from my mind, so what i mean by that is: that I always have a drawing idea in mind and the colors plus the pose...and I try to replecate it on to paper. This is my way of forcing me to draw the body right bc you can imagen a body in a certain pose, right? well i do that always and yeah....i Hope you understood my right....im not so good at explaining my thoughts about how i start a drawing and all the things i see in my mind that are right, but you said it right and i really understand what you mean...still for me using a reference photo is a very good way of learning anatomy but you also can imagen a body pose from your mind and that is what i do to draw a potrait for example etc. I hope you understand me right and can maybe agree on what i just said, bc it is also a way to aprouch it....wow that was a long comment sorry🤭💖💗💓
@AlicjaNai
@AlicjaNai Год назад
I think imagining a pose from your mind is never going to be as effective as having a reference by yours side👀 but it’s still fun sometimes

Dope video! Just my two cents, if you want to be one of the best you need anatomy. If you’re okay with being just “good enough” for a particular purpose, you may not need it as much but you will miss out on your potential. It’s not really a matter of needing reference or not, it’s about understanding your reference at a deeper level so that you can make or break rules with a certain level of authority that makes it work well. Plus, the better you get the quicker you become, which means the more time you can spend on being creative with a piece before getting burnt out.
@AlicjaNai
@AlicjaNai Год назад
That’s also kinda what I said about learning how to translate the reference into paper, all for learning that for sure

its so hard to concentrate on how you doing your drawing on the right, when you talking so brilliantly and looking so pretty on the left. Really, you are so unique, a mathematical genius who can draw, makes me wonder if u not Leonardo da Vinci's greatest granddaughter or something..btw, i dont know about "unseparable" but inseparable is a word. thanks alot. I like how your videos provides a framework for thinking about how to draw, alot of this stuff people probably never talk about. Guess they need to be a genius to, not just a regular artist.

Bruh, same... I used to look at something and be like BET! I GOT THIS! ... I didn't 🤣 Especially with hands, awful. Also, you didn't mention it, but making peace with the fact that it doesn't matter how good you are, your art is not gonna look exactly like your favorite artist's piece, period. Why? Because you're two particular individuals and that's okay!

You’re so wrong on the renaissance ‘copying’ thing hahaha.. The copies were made to make a painting about certain religious stories but if you justlook at van Eyk for example.. Or Giotto. They painted new paintings? What about portraits? I can go on and on… And it is crucial to learn anatomy if you want to draw of paint people from life. Which they also did in the early renaissance..
@AlicjaNai

I just gave one example, but you can clearly see copying in renaissance all over
