The first move is Rook to g8. Black has two options here. 1. Capture the white rook. In this variation, after the black rook on h8 captures the white rook on g8, the white pawn recaptures the black rook and promotes to a knight with a check to the black king and checkmate. 2. In the 2nd variation, after the white rook moves to h8, instead of capturing the white rook, the black bishop makes a move. No matter where the black bishop moves, white rook delivers checkmate in the next move on g6.

Pretty easy one, though nonetheless a nice one!. btw: the motif of "Underpromotion" is seen quite often here, so I always expect it to be part of the solution in your puzzles!

1. Rg8!!

You're getting easier - under a minute! 🙂

The first move is Rg8!! The only pieces that can move are the black bishop on g7 and the black rook on h8. If the black bishop moves, White can then play Rg6#. If black plays Rxg8, then White will play fxg8N#, underpromoting to a knight for checkmate, as the black bishop on g7 and the black rook on h7 take away Black’s escape squares.

I finally figured out one of these puzzles right away!

I figured out it was Rook to G8, didn’t think about underpromoting. Great puzzle!

I found it. Rook to G8 then black under zigzwang has to move, he has either moving the bishop any were then he plays Rook to G6 ++. Or takes the rook with the rook then he takes back by the pawn with a promotion to a knight checkmate.

I found the first move at once, it's a matter of zugzwang.

Rg8 < 1 minute

Zugzwang .. again

I don't know why it took me so long. It was so obvious afterward. Duh.
