Sure hope you’ll bring in V-neck shirts. Wonder why so many merchants don’t? As for the maples not changing color, your nights may not have reached cold enough temps. Just like hydrangeas I think they turn more vivid colors with colder temps.
WAIT.... I was going to buy a sweatshirt, got to the checkout and I could not purchase because I live in Canada....eeek! Anyway to add international shipping??
Per Espoma website: "The Bio-tone microbes are best use prior to the date printed on the bag." My garden center was initially hesitant to stock it because of the expiration date.
The funniest moment is the agony and the pain that Aaron was feeling when Lauren said planting tomatoes in the Rose-garden. We all know that rose garden is Aarons. He has wanted a rose garden forever! Aww poor Aaron. Please don't hyperventilate. Laura please don't plant any vegetables in his rose garden!!! 😂
I agree! No tomatoes in the rose garden. If I were younger and had better knees I would so be adding a rose garden to my property. Now, I just pot them up so they are easier to manage. I just received four new roses. Can't wait!
Laura got Aaron good with that one! Aaron was starting to hyperventilate with just the thought. I am still chuckling. Not personal Aaron. Not personal.
I hope you will have t-shirts or sweatshirts with lettering that says, “the home of Chester at Garden Answers.” You could add a stitched orange cat in the center. You could have t-shirts or sweater shirts of each cat. I bet your followers would love them. Thank about it.
I had a problem with my Autumn Blaze Maple not turning red, and found out that the tree needs to under go a stress period of less water and less fertilizer. SO this year I cut back on water and did not fertilize, and sure enough it is now turning red for the first time ever. So just bear that in mind. :)
I love Aaron’s comment….2 hours of full sun = shade😂😂😂 He brings such a great prospective to the conversation. ❤ And keep planting high! It’s gonna be great- wait and see how fast it catches on. Go Aaron!
Please keep doing this in 20 years! Even in it’s on a smaller scale. There’s nothing that can replace human interaction and character. Love you guys! ❤
And how interesting will it be to see how one keeps gardening in a mature landscape. What dies or fizzles out, what needs moved, etc. something to always do in a garden!
From a Canadian (we oooze Maple everything 😂) I am from Cape Breton Island. Nova Scotia, and we are very well known for our fall colours...from my experience, the trees do not start their colour change until after a first frost, like a shock to their system. I have always thought Fall colours is the most beautiful representation of the passing of the 🍃 leave's life span.... ❤
Hey! I'm from PEI 😂 I find our colours are a bit muted this year. I haven't seen frost myself yet this year, which I never remember being this late! Wondering if that is contributing to it.
That would make sense. The green chlorophyll has to burst and destroy for the other colors to show up. That only happens once it's subjected to a frost. ❤
Frost causes all our leaves to fall off the tree. Our color is beautiful now. We usually have a frost in mid Oct and still no frost. Enjoying our trees. I bet yours is gorgeous.
Here is a suggestion to hide the electrical box. Build a three sided box (perhaps out of cedar so it will not rot) and then have some of the brick to match the Hartley brick cut into thin brick veneer and glue to the box and place it in front of the electrical box.
Usually the fall colours are caused by a combination of shorter days and cooler temperatures. So if you're not getting the cooler temps, that may affect the chlorophyll breaking down which is what happens allowing the other pigments to show their colours.
Hi Laura and Aaron, I got to meet you Laura last Friday as you were going in to Andrews. I was so excited I forgot to tell you that after watching you, I feel confident in putting together pots and displaying different flowers and even fixing irrigation if I mess it up. You’ve taught me so much and I tell friends about your channel that does any gardening at all.
I love the newer way your highlights are set up with Aaron and you interacting. It brings more information to the table with Aaron explaining how to's as well as yours Laura. By the way, Aaron, I like the idea of planting high and building up. You two crack me up a lot. Love you guys!❤
Aaron and Laura ...you both are funny, and so enjoyable to listen to. I do have a note. When you were speaking about over wintering geraniums, I save mine every year here in Minnesota by cutting them back, digging up, shaking the dirt off and throwing them in a paper bag or cardboard box. I store them under my basement stairs where it is dark, cool ( 45- 50 degrees), and good air flow. I pot them up in late winter under grow lights and by the time spring planting is here they are blooming away and ready to plant outside. They get bigger and more beautiful every year. I am with you. They are easy, forgiving, and so beautiful....and they are at no cost.
Aaron ,I’m in NL, Canada , my autumn blaze tree is not turning red yet either. Just today it’s turning almost pinky tone, this is late for this tree ,usually it turns red and the leaves fall before other trees in my area . We are warmer this fall than most years. Love your channel 🍁🍂👍
Don’t worry about the color of your maple tree leaves- we live in New England in New Hampshire and our foliage in the fall is usually stunning right around mid October- not this year. However here we are a few weeks later and the colors are amazing. Give it a few more weeks!
The Imperfect Gardener: Laura, I agree with you. It isn't the size that defines a "cut flower garden, it's that idea of a concentration of flowers for bouquets that doesn't destroy (scalp) the beauty of the landscape or garden borders. (Sorry Aron!) I LOVE waking up to you on Sunday mornings!
Good morning, Laura & Aaron, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b I'm on vacation and I'm enjoying having my 2 familiar Friends visiting as I'm shiwering in a strange bathroom 😅 Thanks for coming along on my vacation ❤ Happy Gardening Everyone 👩🌾👍 ❤Peggy❤ PS. We are driving up the East Coast and enjoying the Leaves turning 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂
As active as the 2 of you are i can see you still putting out content in 20 years. I hope to live long experience enough to see how your trees fill out their spaces. 🌳🌲🧡
Let’s just say- “Growing old with Gardening Answer!” Let’s just say YES-we will always be gardening and Videos! I can’t stress over missing all my GA COFFEE FRIENDS, seeing all the trees mature, and watching the kids grow up!
Laura & Aaron, the realism & genuine responses are my favorite. Just wanted to tell you both how appreciated it is. Chef’s kiss 💋👌 to the honesty. It brings me peace & I just love you both so much 💜
The trees around where I live aren’t turning red this year either (zone 6). It’s the high temperatures. It has never been this warm in October. Most of the leaves are still green - very unusual for this late in October. So I don’t think your trees are planted too deep 😂. It’s like that everywhere this year.
Also, compost decomposes, unlike soil, so if you add it to the actual planting hole, the tree/plant will sink. It's best to just add compost to the top and replenish as necessary. Tree color can largely depend on the weather, rather than how it is cared for.
A crazy plant lady I was lucky to know when I was very young told me she put her "zonal" geraniums not seed geraniums in a paper sack and stored them in a dark cool place in her basement. I have some that are 10 years old now. Make sure you take the blooms off before storage. They will have leaves starting to come out when it is time to plant. They don't look so great for the first couple of weeks but you will have large geraniums that would cost you a lot to get that mature. I add some as some of the older ones finally die off. I love doing it. They are like family now. 😁😁
32:00 Aaron, I am completely against AI. I think it is dangerous and it’s not gonna be good. I am hoping that you guys will still be doing videos in 20 years because I will still be watching them. There’s no AI that can replace you!❤❤❤
I just bought a long sleeved t-shirt! Thank you for the discount! When Laura said, "...not planted on purpose..." I heard myself! We just moved to a house with property and I don't want anything planted new to look like it's new. I said " I want it to look not planted on purpose" and now I can show him this video! I'm not the only one! 😊
To cover that electrical box, you could wrap it! Probably even with an image of the SAME brick! (Think automotive wrap, where entire color change wraps on a car, or when delivery trucks/buses wrap the sides). The vinyl wraps are very weather resistant, and especially if you plant around it you would never know it was there. In our area, the large electrical boxes on street corners are wrapped with beautiful imagery of local parks and views.
For the "Whimsy line" you want, this is what I've done: Make a distinct line between lawn and 'whimsy flower bed' but then in that border of bed and lawn plant various grasses that you let grow up, then you get that look of 'loose' but the planted grasses stay more 'clumps' than a lawn that spreads :)
Freezing peppers is so easy… I just used some from last year in our hashbrowns this morning! They will be better when added to cooked foods (like tacos or casseroles), not for fresh eating ❤
I live in northern Wisconsin. An area known for its gorgeous fall colors. This year we had a long dry summer with an occasional drenching rain. I’ve lived here almost my entire life and I have never experienced color like we have this year. The intensity of the color is something to behold. And they are lasting longer than I’ve ever experienced. I’m looking out my window and across the pasture to the woods beyond and wondering how did I get so lucky!
Northern Wisconsin here as well. The maples are breathtaking near me. Even my oaks are a very pretty orange right now, which is unusual as usually my oaks skip orange and go straight from green to brown in the fall. I still have lots of actual flowers too - when I look outside, I see pink roses, zinnias, petunias, agastache and anemone, with the orange trees in the background. Usually all my flowers are done by now so this is unusual but very welcome! 🙂
I have furnished my house with second hand furniture and furniture picked up alongside the road. Some of my favorite pieces were sitting by the road. Refinish, reupholster, repurpose and enjoy!
I actually pull up my geraniums and place them in a paper bag and store them in my cool basement for the winter. In the spring I repot them and they are good to go.
Oh Aaron, I agree that two hours of sun is indeed a shady spot. But you need to see Lisa on Gardeners Workshop give instructions for a 4’ x 8’ cut flower garden! It’s wonderful. Not everyone has enough space for a long row of cut flowers. I appreciate how Lisa encourages those of us desperately longing for cut flowers to just plant a small spot as quickly as possible to grow beautiful things. Thanks for your comments and ideas. I think you’re great.
NOTE! My maples that are very similar to yours did not start showing fall color until their 3rd year, this yr. I was told they had the most beautiful fall color but for 2 yrs the leaves just turned brown and fell off! Now finally they were beautiful this fall!!!!
I can attest the customer service is terrific. I ordered a hoodie & I received a T-shirt. I sent an email, they said sorry, & we’re currently out of stock, when they came in, I received my hoodie. No question abt returning the T-shirt or anything. Best experience.
I like the idea of "Aaron's Acid Garden." I am in the south (South Carolina - Zone 8A) and the Azaleas here in the Spring are just a breath of fresh air and let you know Spring is on the way. I know it would be a lot of work but the results would bring a smile to your face.
You made me get up from the couch to go watch the video on my PC so that I could go through frame by frame to catch that T-shirt design. It's so cute!! :) I won't spoil it, but if anyone wants to have a look themselves, it's at 3:56. For anyone wondering, you can go through videos frame by frame with , and . on your keyboard.
Now that I'm at it: you can go 5 seconds back and forward with right and left arrows, and 10 seconds back and forward with J and L, and pause with K or the spacebar.
I think I remember reading the colors happen when a freeze occurs before the plant, like a maple, has drained its starch from the leaf. The more starch left the more intense the color. When a winter freeze takes longer to occur, like usually in more southern areas, the plants have time to drain the starch, so none of those beautiful red and orange colors, even when the frost or freeze finally occurs.
Hi Laura hi Aaron I just tell you again. Oh I love your show. I love your plants. I love your harvesting. I love your outdoor activities. I love your mom. I love your family you inspire me. You relax me you are beautiful and here’s the thing about the bio tone. The things that you recommend are really the things that we as your fan club/public gravitate towards and I also had trouble getting Biotone even from Amazon. Everything was sold out because we want our gardens to look great like yours lol love, Mama Sue.
Speaking of peaceful spaces Laura, every single video you do is a "peaceful space" for me. I'm planting vicariously through you because my postage stamp yard doesn't allow for drifts of anything. Hope you all have a wonderful week!💕
I have reached the point of wanting to get rid of stuff- we’ve been in our house for 20 years and have 3 teenagers, so we’ve built up a lot that needs to go! 😂
@loribethartist6353, my favorite decluttering process has been created/figured out by a lady named Dana K. White. Her website and podcast is a Slob Comes Clean and she's beginning to beef up her RU-vid channel. t's a non-emotional way to declutter. I think she's hilarious, but If her presentation style isn't your cup of tea, I recommend her books highly. 👍
Those 4 little evergreens (when done every year) will bring you JOY when your babies bring home their babies to cut down a Christmas tree. You are planting future memories for your grandchildren.
Would love it if you sold Garden Answer Vests! Vests are my favorite things to wear when working in the garden! Been watching your channel for many years and I still absolutely love it! I’m kinda lost on Saturday mornings with no video🤣🤣
Hi! Love you guys as always! In regards to removing some of your roses and replanting another type of rose, according to specialists and David Austin himself, they found a disease called Rose Sickness. Apparently you can’t replace a rose in the same hole. I saw this on Bunny Guinness’ channel, who happens to be David Austin’s niece. Watch it if you can as she explains it much better than I can. Thank you so much for everything you do! Watched you for years and thanks to you, I became a better gardener! 🤗❤️
Aaron you crack me up! 😂🤣 Your reaction to tomatoes in the rose garden was priceless. Love the interaction you two provide in your videos. You always provide valuable gardening information. ❤️❤️
The word "meadow" came to my mind when you were describing what you wanted the area by your flower shed to look like. For instance, like the wind picking up wild flower seeds and blowing them to your neck of the woods, so to speak. The seeds have traveled from who knows where. Then nature takes over to create a beautiful landscape of wild flowers. We see these natural meadows all along the highways and the hills here in Kansas.
😂😂😂 I knew the moment that I saw you wearing your GA top, that you have not worn in years, that today was sponsored by GA merch shop, and when I saw Aaron in a plain black hoodie, which really suits him, just split myself laughing. If you are both wondering why your sales are low, it is due to the fact that neither of you wear your own merch. 😉😉😉
Thank you for another wonderful and educational week of videos. You are my Sunday morning coffee go-to! I loved the little “sneak Peek” flash of the additional merch. So fun! Kudos to whomever added that! :)
We used to watch the birds devour the pyracantha and one season towards early winter my husband call me to come and look at the birds as they were doing loop d’loops! I said I never saw them do that before to which he chuckled and said, ‘The berries are fermented’.😁
I think it would be a very helpful reminder to your subscribers to post on FaceBook every time you upload a Garden Answer Highlights RU-vid Video. Especially good for the new subscribers that do not know about Garden Answer Highlights RU-vid Videos. I love the interaction between you two on these videos.
I have never lived anywhere that azaleas, rhododendrons, or blue hydrangeas would grow. But I had a friend when I lived in Boise who had a rhododendron (bright pink one) on the side of her house that was huge, happy and loved its life. It was protected just right and must have been in a rare pocket of acid soil where it was. I would go take pictures of it because it was such a “unicorn” there. I loved visiting the Oregon coast during the time azaleas and rhododendrons bloomed. It was spectacular!
My husband's uncle lives near Seattle. I visited him once in late winter/early spring, and I was fascinated with the huge bush and asked what it was. Rhododendron was his answer. They were at least ten feet tall and I don't even know how wide. I've never been so jealous. (I live in eastern Washington and we're dry like where Laura lives, so they'd probably never survive without a huge amount of help.)
@@dotw2172 they get enormous in the PNW. They grow wild in the forests and when they bloom! Unbelievable. All different colors (except blue). But then there are hydrangeas that are blue!
had a magnolia in 7b...it did very well...some can get a very large spreading canopy, beautiful branch structure...maybe needs sheltered area, like think you said ❤
😂 I just stayed up past my bedtime with playback at .25 speed to try and catch the preview! Aaron's eye contact head shake had me shrieking with laughter every time I missed the frame and had to back up!
Let's do the acidic plantings!!! I just started my "Master's Garden" with azaleas. Very small garden compared but inspired by the 13th hole at Augusta National Golf Club I've had to do some things to get the soil acidity up (similar to my blueberries plantings). My vote is in for the azalea garden!
I watch your hydrangea video each spring before I prune and feed mine and it gets easier every year. I am in Georgia and my hydrangeas are beautiful. Thanks for all your advice, it takes the fear out of pruning.
I get the giant bags on Amazon all the time as it is cheaper than my far store and garden center. I am in Fla and we are planting heavy Nov- Feb it is kinda like our spring. Come June is is too hot and humid.
Oh Dang!!! I caught the flash and was able to freeze frame on the new design!!!! I will DEFINITLY be ordering that one!!! SOOOOO sweet! Sneaky sneaky!!! Love it!
My local country garden store in mountains NC had BIO-START expired 2008 and left on shelves until 2022. They removed it once I pointed it out and refused to sell. So, I called Espoma Rep and she stated it DOES expire for root stimulation enzymatic properties, but could still use the expired product to fertilize because those are always active.
Hi Laura and Aaron! It took a while, but I finally saw the new print on the t-shirt. It is really nice, and a LOT of people will want it. I agree with others, a v neck t-shirt would be nice, in both ss and ls, also a baseball style with 3/4 sleeves would be my go to. Aaron, I'm with you on no tomatoes in the rose garden. ;-) Thank you so much for sharing!
Am I the only one who noticed the flash frame Ken dropped in of the new design? I actually managed the freeze the video just right to see it 😂 LOVE IT and totally what I was expecting
So admiring of your graciousness and always kind, thoughtful responses in these sessions. Love the idea of a meadow of grass and flowers with mowed paths for the new area. Sounds wonderful and what an interesting and fabulous challenge that would become.
Guys, i love your channel so much. You are the reason i created a garden in my half acre backyard. Everyone that comes back there is amazed. I planted 5 emearld green and 5 north pole arbs. Can you or Aaron please do a segment on taking care of Evergreens? The what, when, how, and why you do it? I need guidance here, and obviously, i trust your guidance. 😊
🎨Consider painting the electrical box a solid color close to that of the brick, just so there is less contrast. It would help it merge into the background and would be easy to maintain! Love you guys! You are so important for not only my garden but my mental health! 💚
Oh I just wanted to say to Laura (I really hope she gets this message), Here in the UK we have also had some crazy weather and strange temperatures. I actually have some green shoots from daffodils coming up. My snowball tree has 4 small blooms and I have either a ranunculus or anemone starting to grow. Everything is crazy bonkers
🤣 Planting tomatoes in the rose garden 😱! I am glad Aaron said something! You promised not to do that, ah, so glad! It look so out of place! Blessings 💕🤗
My first thought for why your maple is not turning red this fall is related to the first statement from Laura - . our average first frost is October 4th and your not forecasted for a light frost until ~October 31st; which is late. Most of what I'm reading is saying you need the cooler temperatures at night to trigger the leaf changing process.
I think a wrought iron piece would be nice to camouflage that electrical box. Either a vintage piece, like a gate or fence, or you could have something made to match the gates you have.
