@@moonlance3496 Electrical is probably the best tbh, mechanical, software and civil are also really good. Mechatronics, chemical and materials engineering are also good options. I was just joking because personally I prefer Aerospace and Mechatronics however these are more specialized fields and it's considered better to do electrical or mechanical instead because you have more job opportunities, also you can get a masters in either one with a mechanical/electrical engineering bachelors I believe, however this is dependent on the university of choice. Hey, any idea why software engineers are paid the most right now? Their work seems easier compared to that of a mechanical or chemical engineer even though those are also in high demand. (He majored in mechanical but somehow transitioned into SE).
@randallmcgrath9345
@randallmcgrath9345 8 месяцев назад
@@NR-ou3hr well engineering degrees do require at least 1 coding class, so they get a little experience. I have a friend whoa dad transitioned from chemical engineering to SE. I think maybe the amount of jobs in Software dev jobs is a reason why. Chemical engineers hwve a h8gher salary average than mechanicsl, but I dont know precisely why, other than the fact that petroleum jobs pay the highest(oil companies have more money than even Intel and most tech jobs, so they can easily pay more.) I suspect that theres so many aoftware jobs because all industries are modernizing their business with tablets, newer Point Of Sale Software, online ordering of food and other merchandise, modernizing of cars with touchscreens and new capabilities, etc. There are far more software than computer hardware jobs. I ak jot an engineer, but going back to school to get into engineering and/or experimental physics. So I may do a Physics major, Engineering Physics major, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering. Maybe Materials science and engineering as well. honestly not enough pay for how diffcult the degree is (as a chemE major). you could easily make double that in comp sci, and you basically need to be good at comp sci for ChemE anyways (in my school). Many highschool teachers make 80k and get 4 months vacation a year. And with a chemE degree you have a high chance of making around the same without nearly the hour flexibility, even if you made 120k, hourly it would work out the the same as a teacher in some stated. Plus not nearly the same job security as teachers. Industrial engineering is way easier and more job security. Or comp sci or data science. Would do those if i got the opportunity to do it over again. (Plus the extra curriculars for engineering you need as a student to bulk up your resume is like you’re going to med school or something)

@@NR-ou3hr with a PhD, chemists and what not get paid a lot more, but with just a biology degree, theres not much practical application (like coding, or even math/data analysis). @NR-ou3hr

@@brendanmeyer1613Wow, thank you! I really want to go into chem, probably biochemistry and contribute to the field while also being able to afford middle class. I want a Phd too since I want to conduct research and/or go into biotech. Was getting really disheartened by what people were saying but further research and your comment made me feel a lot more confident in my career path! Have a lot of respect for what engineers do; I just like finding answers to questions and data much more than designing! Also, my father is a software engineer and while it does pay well, his job seems really boring for someone like me. He also admitted that mechanical engineering which he initially majored in was a lot harder than what he is doing now even though software is paid better so that does seem unfair. It’s not even a case of higher demand since mechanical engineers are still needed a lot. His colleague is a biochem major who ended up doing very well in software engineering after a quick course in coding. Granted, she is a brilliant person in general but seems like there is fluidity and leeway in STEM degrees compared to non STEM. Engineering degree does seem pretty hard but then again, most STEM degrees are. I feel like pure science is harder in the sense that you’re trained to be an expert in that field and know the ins and outs/pursue higher education while engineering is harder in that you have to be a “jack of all trades” and learn how to apply what the scientists discover in the real world, which means more courses and heavier workload. Pure science is like an intricate meal while engineering is a large buffet consisting of simpler meals. Is that a good analogy/understanding? Though I will agree, bio is really easy compared to others lol Thank you and good luck! STEM deserves the world. I wrote a lot but it was very cathartic and eye opening for me. I’m excited for my future education and career path where I get to work with brilliant scientists AND engineers to solve important problems. I’m still just a high school student but no matter what I end up doing, I will strive to be nothing but the best. How is salary for PhDs in engineering btw? Is it higher than PhD scientists?

if you think you’d be the smartest person out of a line up of 200 ppl, and you have the dedication for a PhD then go for chemistry, its much more fulfilling (research, inventing new materials, medicine, etc). If you think you’d be the smartest out if a lineup of 100 ppl and are ready to be done with college in four years, then ChemEng. Chemistry is physics, visualization, memory/recall. ChenE is HEAVYmath/physics/coding. Also dont get me wrong, chemE degree is significantly harder than a regular chemistry degree. The problem is to do anything with a chemistry degree, you need a PhD, which doesnt require you to be that smart, but to go anywhere after that PhD, you need to be reeeaally dedicated to chemistry and the top of some field.

@@thispersonrighthere9024 you have to know people to get jobs around the south. I’m from Louisiana and they only like to hire people they know, regardless of skill. So no matter what you do in college, they won’t hire ya if they don’t know ya. I worked my ass off to get the job I have now and it’s not even chemical engineering. So no, don’t get one. Mechanical is better atm job market wise and pay is actually better. It’s extremely overrated to be a CHEE degree

@@ruger51995No one casually makes 300 as a chemical engineer, unless you’ve worked your entire life and at the top of a company. No one makes money like that in chemical engineering. FYI, say CHEE if you want to at least sound like you know what you are talking about. Normal starting salary in Louisiana is 75-87k for most chemical engineering related jobs. Honestly that’s kinda high balling it. If you make over 100k you are starting off well! Even in California where the wages are inflated due to the living conditions and whatnot, they still only list the starting salary ranges around 150-180k. 300k is just a dumb number you decided to just throw out.

Depends on what you like more. Civil is usually said to be easier and lighter workload.
