It could be because of blocked nasal passages caused by sinusitis/chronic sinus infections. The best type of sleep is REM sleep and when we go into this state, our muscles relax and do not put as much effort towards breathing while sleeping. The added inflammation does not allow us to breath as well and so we wake up with headaches or have brain fog. If we get sinuses treated then your quality of sleep will improve.
