Timothy Mobley no. And would you really want him to? You want every NBA game to stop in the middle so the opposing coach and go “lets give it up for Marcus Smart, he’s a great player” that totally defeats the purpose of a moment like this. You don’t just do this sort of thing for no reason, dirk is a 20+ year vet, MVP, and champion. Moments like this are for the extraordinary, not the ordinary.
Doc Rivers and The Los Angeles Clippers are "Class Personified" for doing that. Dirk even got a little emotional, you could tell. Love Dirk, one of The Greatest of All Time.
Its funny because im old enough to remember a time when these two organizations were the laughing stocks of pro sports. It seemed like the 90's would never end, and these 2 teams would ever get better. We had our chip, and a great run with Dirk, and now we have a bright future with Luka and KP! Im glad for the Clippers right now, and I hope they beat the Lakers and do well!! 2 great organizations with 2 great owners, and 2 hall of fame head coaches with class!
What Doc Rivers did was a true sign of respect. He showed Dirk a true sign of sportsmanship. Dirk was a phenomenal player who deserved to be honored. The fact that the entire Staples Center was stopped and the Home team payed tribute to him was truly awesome. True respect is earned and Doc Rivers earned a lot of RESPECT for that.
The way those two carry themselves on and off the court is the way it should be. There is a reason why both of them are getting standing ovations in every arena they play in this year, opposing crowds even cheering when they score. Heck, Rockets fans (if they are honest) love Dirk. =D
The same Vince who to get out of Toronto just decided to go through the motions and not give a shit until they finally had to move him? The same Vince who spent his career not playing defense? He may have become class act elder statesman late in his career but there’s a reason he never got a title. He’s nowhere near Dirk stature
I would say thats true, but i cant rem the last all star game i saw. Honestly. I watch all the finals and big playoff games; but they have trurned the allstar game into a clown fest. Yet they and the pro bowl get big numbers.
I remember people were calling doc crazy cuz dirk didn’t announce he was gonna retire yet but he ended up retiring at the end of that season great job doc and thank u dirk for everything you’ve done for the nba and us fans
Amen and Amen. It just goes to show that even though you carry yourself in a meek manner: people see it, and you will gain more respeck than the haughty.
Groovy J easily? No not at all, they are pretty comparable in terms of where they rank all time. I would personally take dirk over dwade but it’s arguable. Both are top 25 players all time and top 3 at their respective positions. Don’t give us that easily a better player bullshit 😂
Oh boy you’re feeding me to the lions now lmao. Am I not tortured enough? 😂😂. I gotta be 100% honest as soon as he came back then quickly ruptured his Achilles’ tendon I became torn on wether I wanted him. I started doing the math saying well he’s out the whole season so by the time he’s back into it he’s in that 32 range coming off many injuries with an Achilles being hard to come back from as the same player esp at the middle/downward start of your prime? BUT all being said I have to be 💯. Obviously I wanted him. If not, to at least get us back on the map and maybe draw other super stars which is the one thing that bothers me about the NBA these days. Nobody has the b@lls to take that chance to grab the big spotlight though with Dolan I guess I can’t blame them. Smh lol
The second KD ruptured his tendon I said the F’N Knicks are jinxed. That was the worst possible scenario that happened to the Knicks and myself lol That created just enough doubt to F everything up. Also I really don’t know if him and Kyrie were ever gonna come to the Knicks at all even if he didn’t get hurt? Sounds like they had already decided they were planning the Nets as far as Feb? These players love to trick everyone when it comes to their destinations LOL I have to say oddly for the first time in years I was almost relieved we didn’t go after him and kinda like our young group but I’m tired of this rebuilding crap for 15 years now. I hate Dolan but I’m 40 born and bred in The Bronx grew up watching that 90’s Knicks team that was so fun to watch. They’re my heart and so I just have to keep on suffering every year lol Ehhh who knows. Good luck with the Nets. I never hated them because I only have one true friend that’s a die hard for years, that being said I can’t root for them lmao 😂😂
He is. Dallas wouldn't make a trade that they did if Dirk was coming back and play 20-25 min a game. Also, all professional athletes have an ego. For him to only score 5 ppg is really killing him, but he knows that he is basically a progress stopper for another player.
It’s almost beyond class. It’s when greatness recognizes to APPRECIATE a great one by all before the opportunity passes. Doc’s tears-of admiration and joy to celebrate Dirk’s career. Man that’s pure love. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Also better than any Lebron ring for what it matters. Lone star on his team, underdog since first round. Probably the best run in the history of the NBA.
Doc Rivers is a class act. He’s a true ambassador to the game of basketball that’s he’s been a part of for 5 decades as a player and coach. Mad respect and love to Doc
When You Come In The NBA..Back In 96....From Europe...And Create A Whole New Position That Is Still Used Today (Streach 5)...!Remember Before Dirk..There Was No 7'Footers In The Game That Was Shooting 50% Behind The Arc....DIRK IS THE GOAT!!
I know a lot of ppl hate on Doc for his coaching career but dang, he’s a good dude. I’ve always respected him as a person and a leader. And the love he showed to my all-time favorite player in this moment was so special.
Dirk is one of the few players that actually changed the game. A 7 footer that shoots from distance, has a great fade away, equally good going left or right, super fundamentally sound and a complete class act!!
That's was cool that Doc Rivers stop the game for a few minutes to acknowledge Dirk. He's a great player and future Hall of Famer. You got to give it to him, he's a champion.
Tears in my eyes. I have ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS respected Doc. I think he is brilliant. For him to do this is beautiful. I love Dirk. I have loved him his whole career. Classy as always Doc.
This is the first time I've seen this or even heard about it. Never have I seen this on any level of sports much less in the pro's. Class act Doc, class act. This should be shown and taught on every level of amature sports...great sportsmanship.
Eric Elegado why does KD always need to be brought up. Can’t we just give dirk his props and be like him in respecting all other players? Dude was and is a class act, the fans not so much.
@@gershomtan5879 I think you are confused. Most people that bring up KD aren't die hard Dirk fans, there are just people who can't fathom tucking their tail between their legs and running to the team you were up 3-1 on in the WCF. Every ring he gets in GS has an asterisk. The reason its being brought up on Dirk videos is because Dirk's chip was the polar opposite, done on a team most considered a first round exit, especially with the history of the Mavs going out in the first round multiple times as a high seed before the 2011 season. They then proceed to run through every powerhouse team in the playoffs, including the newly made super team Miami while being on a team where he is the only All Star. KD never got past the second round without at least an All Star on his team, and he hasn't won a ring without 3 other all stars on his team. If KD's rings are worth 1/3 of a ring each, Dirk's ring is worth 3 at least.
This is pure love of the sport and extreme respect and sportsmanship. Gotta love Doc..Everyone who loves basketball and sports in general needs to take a page from this book IMHO...
Wow, goose bumps everywhere. Great action from Doc Rivers. Dirk is the greatest European player of all time and not to forget he is still so humble and likeable like in his first year.
Ace2Trill not everyone is from a country that speaks English might not be his first language so have some respect most foreign people are more intelligent than u and can speak multiple languages unlike u Americans that think the world revolves around u and everyone should speak ur language
This guy dismantled my miami heat and I salute him for that. Allstars powerhouse vs one germinator and his crew. Two thumbs up to the kid from germany and now one of the nba's great lengends. Greatest player ever to come from EUROPE
Ahhh good move Doc. You tried to distract Dirk and get in his head so he couldn't start the improbable 9 second comeback......good move Doc.......good move.
Doc Rivers is such a very classy coach. Great respect and one of the most caring and compassionate individuals in the NBA league. Wish more things like this happen in the sports world. It's truly a blessing to watch great legendary players be honored in this way by the other team. God Bless Doc and his team!
What do Dirk Nowitski and Albert Pujols have in common? Both super humble guys; playing hard with class; respected by teams throughout their leagues because of said leadership and poise. Humans with this spirit need to be spotlighted more.
