Saw Doc and Merl back in the early 70s at Ohio University when we were really graced with such wonderful salts of the earth ( Ramblin Jack, Jerry Jeff, Guy et al ), ramblin round and makin people smile.. damn few left! Thanks boys!!!!
i’ve always wondered why doc doesn’t finish this tune with “lord i’ve got the columbus stockade blues”? there are songs titled “walkin blues” but this isn’t at all like them.
Two reasons I suspect. The first is that the idea of ‘walkin blues’ goes beyond a set of songs. It’s a feeling that transcends that, and can be discussed in other songs, or in general, and I guess he just felt that it fits. Second, “lord I’ve got the Columbus stockade blues” is a long and awkward phrase in that spot of the song where he’s trying to punctuate it and end it. Walkin blues just fits as far as length for that purpose.
can anyone upload a better sounding version of this exact recording, this is an amazing recording but this one is very "bass" and of poor quality. thank you
It's been bothering me too, the song deserves better. I've found a better copy and uploaded it here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e-t82MjOavM.html
