I feel honored to have gotten Doc when I was younger, got to go backstage at the Tennessee theater and get his autograph. I amazes me that he can play like he does being blind.
how many things a man can do in the first position of a folk guitar... and how is it magic the fact that everything he sings bocomes a country ballad... this is pure 1°class!
Thank you, I have to agree, I have seen Richard play probably more than anyone on youtube, and yes he's damn good, considering he's my uncle and i live right above him
totally agree .... just a bit overdone with lead all the way through . a bit of light and shade was needed . doc done well to sing over all that from beginning to end .
@TheMemphisSlim; Just curious how many shows do you perform each year in front of an audience? Like many, you seem to revel in criticisim. Perhaps you should remain part of the silent majority, unless of course you would like to prove to Richard and the rest of the youtube audience that your talent lies beyond the spoken word.
@1954tele Me either. What I'm saying will pass though.. Richard is a loner, and hardly ever mingles with people. He's hard to find sometimes in fact when it's time to do a show somewhere.. I'm not meaning to criticize, it's just a statement of fact, why don't YOU spend as much time dealing with the performer, as people like, just commenting. Just Saying..
@TheMemphisSlim ; I have no interest in creating a dialogue however if what you say is true & you know him then why would take the time to create a response on this forum to knock him? There's an old addage; "If you don't have something good to say don't say anything at all". If you didn't learn it then, you'd be well served to learn it now. This ends,.
Richard is not that talented either. Nice fellow though, but as soon as Doc passes away, that will be the last of Richard Watson on stage. I bet he can't play 5 songs today at stage level.
+sundown005 So did Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and basically 99% of all famous guitar players, it works. Even if you hop out and play Dorian for example, and you don't play the 9th a lot, when you do it is is in passing, and the other 5 notes you are playing are all pentatonic. It works. Plus, in that solo you can hear the Bb, the flat 5th, that blues note isn't in the pentatonic. Complicated doesn't always equate to good, IMO.
Thats one of the cool things about docs playing. He never shove’s pointless shit on top to show off. He always serves the music instead of his ego, and that’s one of the things that makes him such a great musician. Complicated just for the sake of complicated, or to show off is like jerking off to a picture of yourself. Nobody wants to see that.
