I still have my Gallagher G71 Special SN# 1043 which I bought directly from J.W. Gallagher around 1975 for $475 with case. First I wrote him a letter, which he replied to with a personal typed and signed response giving prices and models. Then I ordered the guitar and received it a few months later. It's a wonderful, fantastic, beautiful guitar that has never ceased to give me great pleasure every time I play it.
Got my Doc Watsom custom in 2007 personally constructed by Mr Don Gallagher and he graciously added my personalised embellishments that makes this guitar a one-off. I requested the guitar had a cutaway body and a sunburst finish as well as my stage name engraved on the pickguard and out of the total number of guitars built at the original New Wartrace shop mine is the only guitar with this feature. A beautiful instrument with an out of this world tone. Marty Rivers ( Australia).
Wow what a trio, you done Doc Watson right J.P I am sure he was smiling down from heaven when he heard this lovely tribute. Thanks to so much J.P., Jeff, Darryl and Gallagher guitars big smile here and hitting the rewind right now to listen again :-) :-)
Well, I bought a DW off Don Gallagher in 1997 over at Wartrace and then I played it on the open mic. Then Scott Rouse said 'Do you want to meet Doc?' I almost fainted but did meet him. Wow!!! Took the guitar back home to UK, still have it. Lovely people, really great.
@@tmichaelcoleman7407 man oh man!! You’re one of my heroes. I love everything you ever did with Doc, BCH, you name it. You’re one of the best bass players who ever held the instrument. I am super stoked that you saw our little video. Thank you for messaging. A means everything to me. Doc was my lifelong hero, and I suppose he always will be. There’ll never be another.
I was looking for my first nice guitar and visited Gallagher Guitars in 1974 and Don took me and my friend on a tour of the shop. My budget was about a months salary for a teacher/coach and the guitar I wanted was about $200 more than my budget. I bought a very nice guitar (not a Gallagher) which I still have today. I have had a couple of very nice guitars but have always wanted that Gallagher. Beautiful guitars!
FORCE YOURSELF MY FRIEND……I USED TO DREAM OF J200s AND MARTINS…..EVENTUALLY I GOT THEM ALL EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK 40YEARS! YOU WONT BE HAPPY UNTIL YOU GO FOR IT. GOOD LUCK.
J.P. , absolutely stellar. Loved your story at Stompin' Tom's 80th birthday about how he gave you $500 to buy clothes when you first started out, and have been searching all things JP ever since.
Oh My God, Jack, I'm sure you don't remember me. There was an upstate NY college gig you and Doc did, in like '88, or 89'. I was walking down the hall and I saw Doc through a door window. Being a guitarist, I couldn't help but go in an introduce myself. He shook my hand and we talked for a short time. Oh, my god, to meet someone like this! Later, after the show, I talked with you a little bit. I asked you how are you doing as a musician playing this kind of music which we both loved. You replied, "Well my house is paid off." Righteous...I was so happy to hear that a trad guy could make a living! Eric PS you were a little slimmer then. 😀 I got the same problem.
Those Gallaghers sound exactly where they came from , the South . Beautiful, authentic, focused and sparkling. I played a friends one years ago briefly in Tennessee. The one guitar that left a lasting impression on me to this day . Great concert
I heard Doc several times in the ‘60’s….he amazed and inspired us all. And the original sound of his D-18 and then his Gallagher G-50 imprinted indelibly…
Had to watch it again, just to make sure that this wasn't an illusion. It's not, just the very best in music. What a frigging band this is. There is no better than these masters!!!!!!!!
Hey JP---- your tribute to Doc Watson and Gallagher Guitars is exceptional. In 1973 I saw Doc and his son Merle live in performance at McCabe's Guitar Store in Santa Monica, California. I sat in the front row about six feet away. Doc and Merle were fantastic. I'll never forget it. I'm sure he would approve of your great video.
That made me so happy. I love old doc and the boys. Love the flat Picken I'm going to have to learn how to do that some time soon. Thanks boys for putting a smile on my face. 🤠
Guys, what a performance, I thought I was down in Tennessee, sit-in on the grass listening to The master himself Doc Watson. Great video guys, I enjoyed that very much. Thankyou!!
About 18 years ago I played a Gallagher and always thought it had the deepest bottom end I've ever heard in a guitar. I haven't seen one in any guitar store I've gone to since then. Not a common guitar up here in my area of Canada. I would love to have the opportunity to play another one again.
Doc. would be so proud that someone had learned to play a guitar as fine as he did. Jeff, you are one of the best and Darryl, I've never heard such a deadly bass. player . All notes covered!!!!
J.P. , I only became aware of you very recently and I confess I had underestimated you as a player. I stand corrected. That was some really fine playing, sir. What I didn't miss, though, is that your love of this music is heartfelt. Major props to you!
I've watched a few of JP's videos, but they were basically guitar reviews, I never actually heard him play-play. Oh my gosh, what a player he is. I was blown away, and Jeff and Darryl were great too. Terrific tribute to Doc, thanks fella's.
I've watched some of your videos but never considered you as a serious artist. I stand corrected and am now a fan and will be looking forward to more material from you. The guys with you are amazing artists as well. I just sold a 1975 G50 in almost mint condition. Looking forward to trying the new Bluegrass Bell. P.S your Hat and shirt are a nice touch. They are fitting to your stature and Persona .
Thank you guys, second time watching it through and it just gets better! Incredible versatility, crazy flat picking at its best 👉 Jeff and JP ! Nuff said.
Holy crap was this good !!! 👏👏👏👏 I like bluegrass but I’ve been mostly a punk rocker my whole life. so I don’t know whose who, I don’t know chords or guitars, but what I do know is it sounds amazing, and puts an instant smile on my face. 🥰if you put the top bluegrass people in a line up, I wouldn’t know anyone. But thanks to covid I had ALOT of time to watch you tube. It’s given me the opportunity to sit and listen, and welI one doc video and it was “see ya later I’m jumping in this rabbit hole for awhile”😂😂 I don’t know you guys but I can’t wait to dig in and learn about you all. What an amazing tribute!! He’s upstairs playing right along with you all and Merle’s sitting right next to him. I don’t have enough words to say how blown away I am. 💕💕💕 edit: my dads in hospice right now, and seeing you guys play with such joy and laughter reminds me that along with sorrow can come joy when we remember those that are gone from this world. 💕💕
Great playing guys! J.P., I am a new fan and you keep impressing me with your playing.. I especially like instrumental bluegrass and you nail it Brother!!!
