I come to CO couple times a year to visit family at 8,000 ft (from sea level in FL) and have severe shortness of breath, no matter how long I stay. No other symptoms. Did not have a problem the one time I flew into Denver and stayed few days before driving to Vail area.

In Estes Park several years ago I felt hypoxic. My speech was slurred. I asked my niece's husband who is a doctor, what's happening with me? He laughed and said it's just the altitude. You'll be fine once we go lower. Sure enough.
