In this video, Dr. O'Donovan explains what causes excessive farting (aka flatulence) including causes, treatment tips and when you might need to see a doctor.
Farting, also known as flatulence, intestinal gas, or wind, is normal. There are things you can do if you fart a lot or it's smelly. Sometimes it can be a sign of a health condition.
Top tips to avoid excessive or smelly farts:
1. Eat smaller meals, more often
2. Drink or chew food slowly, with your mouth closed
3. Exercise regularly to improve how your body digests food
4. Drink peppermint tea
When to see a doctor:
1. Farting is affecting your life and self help and pharmacy treatments have not worked
2. You have a stomach ache or bloating that will not go away or comes back
3. You keep getting constipation or diarrhoea
4. You have lost weight without trying
5. You've had blood in your poo for 3 weeks

started renovating my kitchen 2 months ago and had to switch to easy food like microwave meals and sandwiches since i live a life without a real kitchen while the reno takes place... my farts have been horrible and poop inconsistent. used to make healthy home cooked meals all the time before and never had such problems. take care of your gut health and skip over processed easy food, especially if you have a functional cooking stove and oven at your disposal. you'll lose time cooking but gain so much more living healthier. im speeding through the kitchen reno because living like this is hell.

I remember the worse fart I ever did. I was in the 8th grade. We were in class. The doors were closed and the ac was on. I started getting a mean stomach ache. Super sore. Then I let out the gas and I felt much better. It was silent. But then people started screaming in class going oh my god. It's stink. It even reached the teacher who said whomever did that go outside and do it next time. It filled the whole room. The teacher then opened a door to let the smell out. I never had a fart that powerful again. Funny part was I pretended not to know who did it and was like, oh man its stink! lol.

Ive always been the best farter since a kid. The absolute death stentch, im the worst. When I get the farts going, its like 4 days straight farting the death farts. Certain grains/cereals, protein shakes, beans of coarse, boiled eggs, but then not sure of the other causes. Ive never figured them all out so Im just a big farter. Glad nobodys around me a lot. Is it manslaughter if someone near you dies from your fart?😅

I had smelly winds and bloating all my life. I have been to the GPs, chemists, alternative therapists, avoided certain foods, avoided dairy and yeast, but nothing seems to work. I take couple of medicines for my other issues and it is unlikley I will stop taking them. I am now stack with constipation as well. I do not know where to turn to now.

@@marissa3508I’ve been constipated my whole life. My mom and grandma had to give me suppositories, and I also fart a ton. I probably have IBS. I don’t care people make fun of me no one is perfect. Someday we call get old and our bodies do all kinds of things. It’s immature to make fun of people

No worries Marissa I won't make fun of you constipation and many signs can be serious but I suggest taking Myra lax 1 capful a day and should help you it has no tastes so you can mix it with any drink and will not give you bad diarrhea but take everyday and or you can take magnesium vitamin once a day 😊good luck

I was diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease this past December and have been having a lot of flatulence and constipation. I've been eating a lot of raw broccoli, cauliflower, celery and carrots and was thinking that was the cause, but I've stopped eating those raw because of the excessive flatulence and constipation, thinking that was the cause, but the problem continues. Not only that, I can't seem to control the problem and worry when I go out shopping or whatever. Embarrassing!

I have been suffering from excessive smelly flarulence ever since my doctor started me on thyroxine sodium. I have no other symptoms, i was in subclinical hypothyroidism range when he started me on meds. I don't drink, smoke or chew gum or any other things you mentioned here. I don't have stomach pain, I do light exercise 5 days a week, I am sometimes constipated and i have been experiencing depression and brain fog for a few months, like my brain is rusted or become slow or something. I asked my doctor and he simply ignores all of my issues regarding this. What should i do? Is there a test I could take to find out what's wrong. I keep seeing IBS, celiac etc whenever I google "excessive flatulence" but none of the other symptoms fit me. Is it gluten allergy? I don't know what to do. My doctor isn't listening to my issues and won't offer any advise or tests even after asking many times. Feeling realy helpless here. Its been more than a year suffering.

Because a lot of doctors are scammers and just became doctors because they were good at memorizing things. They are not humane and lack empathy. They are also just working for a paycheck from the hospital and get commission from insurance.

If you are using creamer with refined or processed sugars then yes it can have that reaction because excessive sugars are fermented as they are broken down which increases bowel bacteria.

I was at a restaurant yesterday for breakfast and had a good one. My farts stink really bad and I had to fart right after the meal. I was sitting in the booth and ripped one. As soon as I farted I smelled it and I'm sure the woman at the table next to me smelled it as well.

You mean to say a "fartmacist" Irritable bowel syndrome is yeast infection your intestines are swollen and you get excessive gas because you're allergic to lactose cause you have no acidophilous bacteria to digest lactose and the chemicals make gas certain sugars in food not be able to digest unless you have a specific enzyme the raw enzyme belonging to the food helps digest the sugars in the food beans for an example. Most of what you said in this video is just a guess and I hope nobody listens to it the only part of your video people should listen to is the foods to not eat but if you're not a fat person you're not going to have excessive gas if you have a bloated belly you will if you have no bloated belly and your belly is flat or even sunk in a little bit you're fine you need to clear the stench out of your colon eat raw vegetables to clear the stench out of your colon
